Quote from: Uncle Mickey on May 02, 2024, 03:58:42 PMThe 2nd part of Marc's quote should have been: 'But they certainly allow decent QBs to elevate their production.' or 'They certainly help prove who is a good QB or isn't'

True, there was certainly a lack of nuance in Marc's quote.

I agree, although some will point to the Bengals SB run as proof you don't need a line.  I would counter by saying they haven't sniffed the SB since, and their QB is frequently injured.

Based on free agency and the draft, which Giants still on the roster came out as winners and which ones came out as losers?

I will give two examples, to better illustrate the question

1) Winner-  Daniel Jones, the Giants didn't draft his replacement

2) Loser-  Slayton is likely the odd man out once Nabers is a starter

Who makes each of your lists?

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 10:20:48 AMThe current standoff is not the same as last year's standoff with Barkley. Slayton is very underpaid compared to WRs with the same stat, and he's been the Giants' most reliable and productive receiver on the team. With Nabers getting the brunt of defenders dogging him, it should open up Slayton and Hyatt...and maybe a TE

Anyway, a pretty good article: https://gmenhq.com/posts/darius-slayton-provides-positive-update-ny-giants-contract-drama-01hwx0s93mgb?sc=be165671da3b347e2b57f31b3de62ada4335dd4eb041bc409f5188d150192a90

The sense I got (although I couldn't find a quote that nailed it down) is that Slayton wants an extension.

Quote from: babywhales on Today at 09:37:53 AMConspiracy theories are a sign of the times.

I do not think Mara directs the board.  Sign off on a 1st round pick or big ticket FA is not the same as steering the ship toward one

I completely agree.  Mara has been adamant that the GM has the final say.   There have been zero reports from any insider suggesting that Mara is lying when he says that.   To some fans, Mara has become the cartoon villain that every bad or unlucky decision is blamed on.

To be fair, I might be a bit biased because I consider conspiracy theories the bastion of the weak-minded.

Quote from: londonblue on Today at 09:34:29 AMLock is behind Jones in 'experience' despite being part of the same draft class because of nearly 3 years backing up (including one with no snaps). Questions over Lock's preparation, focus and processing saw him fall to R2 in 2019. They continued in Denver. I suspect his ceiling is a slightly less bonkers Jameis Winston boom/bust type. Can Daboll, Kafka, Tierney improve him? It might be fun finding out.

I like both this perspective and how it was presented  :ok:

Ric,

I like your post. I will say, to me this question is akin to which tire on a car is the most important.  For an offense to be successful you need a good QB and at least one really good receiving threat (can be a WR or special TE)

Quote from: T200 on Today at 09:51:06 AMIn my view, it's not an issue of the stars making a clean break... it's a misleading title.

I would have said something like, "Jilted Fans Still Mad At Saquon"

Tim, having a difference preference for a title is not the same as "misleading".  Seeing something differently than you doesn't make it misleading, it makes it a different perspective

Quote from: T200 on Today at 09:21:16 AMSaquon was minding his business at a basketball game and they showed him on the screen and TV. Fans go after him on X, but the title of the thread is "Why do former NYG stars struggle to make clean breaks?"  :-??  :-??

Tim,

Is there anything easier to ignore than a mean Tweet about you on Twitter?

Quote from: babywhales on Today at 08:43:09 AMThe New York Giants are a corner stone organization in the NFL.  The TV revenue sharing agreed to in the early 60's by Wellington for the benefit and growth of the NFL is why the NFL is where it is today.

It was said The Duke was the heart and soul of the NFL and The New York Football Giants are not too far behind him.

Players might not like the taxes in New York State but players love being here and hate leaving.

You can go even further back, in terms of how important the Giants were.   Because they were in NYC, they had more revenue than other teams.  They could get all the new talent they wanted.   Yet, for the good of the league, they agreed to a draft that helped to create parody at the expense of their advantage.

Quote from: T200 on Today at 09:05:04 AMD) Neither upset nor unhappy.

I trust what Schoen has done and understand what he inherited isn't going to be fixed easily. He knew he had a tough task and he's up for the challenge. I'm just along for the ride. Unless and until he turns into Gettleman, I'm in his corner.

Tim,

I tend to share these views.   I started this thread because we saw in Ed's poll there are quite a few fans unhappy with the direction of the team.  I think it was a reasonable assumption that most are unhappy due to the team not drafting a new QB.  I was curious as to why they were unhappy about the the decision not to draft a QB.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 02, 2024, 09:30:04 PMLock has been in the NFL for four years (28 games), and Daniel Jones has been the Giants starting QB for the last five seasons.

When would there be a point in judging them?

Jeff,

I am pretty sure Lock and Jones were in the same draft class.  Jones was picked 6th overall and Lock was the 10th pick of round two.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on Today at 08:27:29 AMAre we classifying Toney as a star?

In the sense he was a first round pick
