No idea who he would have taken last year but we would have drafted way earlier than 25 because there was no way we would have gone to the playoffs (much less win a game).

Curious, can we sort of put Gettleman in the rear view mirror.  Schoen for sure has made mistakes including a huge one with the Jones contract but he is beyond a massive upgrade over his predecessor

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Did Darren Waller Retire??
March 19, 2024, 10:50:07 PM
Maybe Waller asked for more time to think through what he wanted to do and the team granted the request.  Happens all the time.  In the meantime, 2 blocking TEs were signed and Cager was signed.  I'm ok with Ballinger and the 2 TEs if Waller decides to retire.  No to Cager.  I'm more than ok if the 1st round pick is one of the big 3 WRs

The opposite of dependable

Quote from: katkavage on March 15, 2024, 12:13:34 PMPenix is certainly under the radar right now but scouts are very high on him. His accuracy is out of this world. He is probably the most pro-ready of all the QBs, but also the least mobile so protection is an option. If the Giants don't trade up for one of the top four, they might be able to trade down a few spots, grab Penix and get an extra second round pick and more.
I dont think its Penix if only because of his injury history.  After last years injury debacle, Schoen so far has signed only healthy players.  The dependable factor is key this year

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Pugh to be back 2024 ?
March 15, 2024, 01:08:20 PM
Pugh had no training camp pretty much coming off the couch and was starting on a badly coached crappy OL.  Of course he sucked.  I think he might actually contribute in a better situation

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Rate the Brian Burns trade
March 14, 2024, 09:51:35 PM
This is what I'm hoping for.  I don't think 2023 was a particularly good year for Burns coming after his two prior years which were pretty good. Clearly, in my opinion, he's not currently worth what he's being paid.  But, he will draw enough attention to make Thibs better and make defenses focus on one of Burns or Dexter.  They just may get the pass rush they had in the SB years not that long ago and that would be welcome.  On the while, I'm in favor of the trade, just not in love with it.

I think a few college football issues might affect the NFL and not just NIL.  With the big tv money going to the colleges, I think the NCAA will be lucky to be in existence in a few years. The big time colleges will create a super conference and I can see them not taking a back seat to the NFL on scheduling and other matters. They may want to be a feeder league to the pros; they may end up forcing the league to pay way more for the kids to go pro (as if the colleges are not pros now).  Also, there was a recent ruling that allows college athletes to unionize.  That will become a big deal

Quote from: ViewFromSection129 on March 13, 2024, 02:25:02 PMAmazing that this team has sucked for a decade, but every year, we are up against the cap.
Not to quibble with your point but our team has gone to the playoffs twice in the last decade

Quote from: Philosophers on March 12, 2024, 07:38:35 PMI wonder if the Dabs/Schoen think they can use DJ as a means to save their jobs if they dont draft a QB and instead build the offense around DJ.  If DJ fails, they can say "you pressured us into working with him.  See..."
I think its the opposite.  Draft a rookie QB and they buy themselves more time.  In my opinion, both Schoen and Daboll would have to really screw up to lose their jobs this year.  I think Schoen is miles better than Gettleman who got 4 years and pretty much dug the hole that Schoen is cleaning up.  And comparing Daboll to McAdoo and Judge is also a no contest.  We are on the track

How is everyone do certain they know what the Giants will do without knowing who will be available when the Giants pick at 6 if they end up at 6?

As an aside, does anyone else think that theres an awful lot of trolling going on with respect to the Jones threads?  I've come to the conclusion that alot of whats being said in threads like this are designed to rile up fans

Quote from: andrew_nyGiants on March 10, 2024, 04:22:07 PMYes. I agree with the ladder....he simply doesn't process fast enough and too often realizes it just late enough to panic forcing a bad pass or taking a sack.

Or he's feeling pressure from a few pressure points.  Or, he's feeling pressure after being sacked or rushed constantly.  Or the receivers going deep are not getting separation or are running the wrong pattern. Or, Garrett's coaching was internalized to avoid turnovers and he's been coached to avoid turnovers.

Not a loaded question.  How does a fan watching a game on television ( or even at a game) know that Jones does not process whats in front on him as opposed to any number of legitimate explanations for a play not working?

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 10, 2024, 10:18:24 AMThat still doesn't explain him throwing the ball though. They knew it was an issue in 2022. He only had 2 passes beyond 20 yards before Thanksgiving. The signs were there. He had 10 games under 200 yards passing, and 4 games were he was right at 200 yards passing. There were games were he wouldn't throw for the entire quarter, but you'd pay a guy you won't let throw the ball for 1/4th of the game.
Going to disagree about the deep game.  Jones throws a pretty good deep ball.  But, he needed time for the WRs to get open if they did get open.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT - NE Trading Mac Jones
March 10, 2024, 01:29:48 PM
Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 10, 2024, 11:45:26 AMHeard this on NFL Radio.  Mac Jones to the Jaguars for a 6th round pick.

If there was any doubt about the Patriots drafting a QB, this should remove it.
I think there was 100% certainty that Jones was not returning and this does had no effect on anything NE does going forward.  A bigger factor is the status of a veteran QB they may want like Mayfield or even Wilson.  Of the 3 QBs projected to go early, at least 1 should be a bust.  They may see the one available at 3 to be a bust and Harrison would be a great prize

Quote from: ozzie on March 08, 2024, 11:34:35 PMI agree 100% with your assessment of Ojulari...has the skills but often injured. I also feel he will never play a full season. Hopefully the Giants can find someone to compliment KT.
Not a loaded question.  Did Ojulari ever take over a game even when he was healthy?

Quote from: files58 on March 08, 2024, 03:42:42 PMWhy? You don't know what the asking prices were. Dolan doesn't want to trade this year's #1 because the draft is at one of his properties, and Drury doesn't want to trade Kakko. I agree. The league has a tendency to ask more from the Rangers in trades than other teams. Seattle re-signed Eberle, Anaheim wanted alot for Vatrano. Pittsburgh's rivalry with Carolina is mild compared with that of the Rangers. I could not see the Pens considering sending Guentzel here. Taffoli would have been nice, but the Devils would never do it. Tarasenko's family lives in Florida. So we go to war with what we have. Carolina also got Kuznetsov, but his head may not be straight. Adam Tuch was not going to get traded, and the price for doing so would have been exorbitant. Drury would not part with Othmann and Perrault. Again I agree. People in the know say that Perrault was the steal of the 2023 draft. Bettman must be drooling about Florida. Southwest winner last year, southeast looking really strong, Rangers very relevant, and making money for the league. That's how he wants it in his macro view competing with other sports. We have a micro view.

I don't often agree with you but I do here.nobody knows what the asking price was for Guentzel. And he was only a rental having been public that he would not sign a contract until he became a free agent.  Taffoli was not moved at all, the Devils are on a winning streak.  The Rangers have a good combination of experience and youth and have some high level prospects.  If Shesty is back to playing what he's shown he's capable of, with the right amount of luck, they're in the running.  If they hadn't made the trade for Wennberg,  Drury would have deserved the criticism.  But getting him (for a good price) and some depth pieces, I'm ok with that.
