Quote from: kartanoman on Today at 06:55:01 PMI suspect midnight will fall on the Isles season tonight and, although their season would end exactly as it did last year, I have to give some due respect to Patrick Roy for putting some character and spirit into his team that has been lacking for a long time. His players' battles against the Rangers, to close out the regular season, infused new energy into a series which lie somewhat dormant since the 1980s. It's good for the northeast if the two Metro New York teams bring back their rivalry to match the old days. It will make for better hockey for the league, as well.

One thing that is really starting to irritate me is this so-called coronation of "paper champions" many are so quick to bestow on Carolina. For starters, they didn't even win their own division. Second, they ended up on the short side of the stick against the Metro Division Champs. Finally, the team which knocked them out last season just sent packing the one team nobody, not even the Canes, wanted to play this playoff season. So, why are so many pundits convinced the Canes are going to make short work of the Rangers when, in the final analysis, all this talk about everyone's "Paper Champion" is merely adding more pressure in their camp, not the Rangers. I just do not understand it at all. Can someone explain it to me?

Maybe I should continue to pull for Patrick Roy and the Isles to pull off a huge upset tonight and send the series back to Long Island.

Peace!

Isles have played hard in this series. Obviously they had the big collapse game when they were up 3-0 and lost, but they haven't had one game where they have been blown out for three periods. Have to give them props. Hopefully they win tonight, but even if they don't, they have given Carolina more trouble than the Caps gave us.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on Today at 06:43:28 PMWith all due respect to the OP and everyone else who has posted in this thread, this is officially a boring topic now.

This thread has been played out for years now (with different precise thread titles), and it's still the same folks on both sides making their same points. Clearly those who think Jones is this really good, franchise QB who has been a victim of circumstance are not going to change their minds about that, and those who think he is a middling talent aren't going to either.

We can keep these endless, circular discussions going on all summer if that's really what people want, have things get heated for no reason, and still not persuade anyone, or we can just agree to let him play this year, see what happens, and then discuss his performance on the field.

If the above is not possible or not wanted, then I would humbly suggest we go back to a central "Jones Thread" for all Jones content, rather than going back and forth in 10 different threads concurrently until September (and likely beyond).

We're going into year six now. It's just not that interesting of a topic anymore. I also don't think it's a very controversial one anymore outside of this forum and a small contingent of Giants fans.

I am just catching up now.

I would say people have stronger views than I do (on both sides) on this particular topic. I'm sort of agnostic. I think Waller was an elite player at one point, but isn't anymore. I like and respect him on a personal level, but it's not like we're talking about someone who has been on the team for 3-plus years. So I wouldn't say I feel any sense of extra loyalty towards him beyond what I would feel towards any Giant. I think when he's healthy he's still a weapon, but the team that cut him has since used two high picks on tight ends, so it's not like they cut him because they didn't value the tight end position. Clearly they do. That sort of tells you something.

We had something a bit like this with Nate Solder, when he was owed a lot of money but clearly didn't have it in his heart of hearts to play anymore due to personal circumstances. He did still play, I think to get the money (he basically admitted this), and he was pretty brutal. I'm not saying because that happened Darren Waller will also be brutal, but you definitely need to have your heart in football to be good in the NFL. Not to mention your body needs to be in top form too.

I don't know if either of those things are in place with Waller. I guess time will tell.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 10:50:31 AMHere is my daily prayer: "Dear Lord, please let our message board be something other than more discussions about Daniel Jones that have been discussed with the exact same points more than ten thousand times ad nauseam, by naysayers who are too obsessed with the subject to let it go and move on and cheer our glorious team...the horse is not only dead, but it has been beaten into dust and even the dust no longer exists as it has blown away with the wind. Please don't let it keep coming back...Amen"

Ric

As long as the same people keep pushing their constant agenda, whether pro or anti, this will dominate. We know who these are and it is a constant thing just to try to score points.

I will join you in that prayer.

To me, last year's debacle was 90% due to the O line failures

Not having the defensive backfield as a concern, I did not check out any of those prospects; so I was surprised and disappointed that the 2nd and third picks were devoted to the secondary.

We got burned last year for not being prepared to replace Neal. I hope what they did in FA market is enough; more importantly, they are not going by HOPE either. If the line is functional and reliable, then from what I have gathered so far, this can be considered as a solid draft.

I think the Giants are waiting to cut him
You dont want to kick  a man when he is down
Cutting him now.would show the whole team youre just a number
Let him get settle.in his life
Tell.him youre cutting him before camp.so he has time.to find another team
