I'm confused? Did we not address Dline and Oline the past several drafts and significantly in FA this offseason? I know people want instant gratification these days but we gotta let guys develop and actually field a team besides the oline and dline... yea we need a DT but we likely have one of the best front 7s in football on paper, so should we really have neglected the secondary for a run stuffing DT?

Why do we need a guard? We signed 4 to go with a couple we had already and so we have 6 guards... why do we need more?

No way on planet earth is an organization giving up on a top 10 tackle after 20 games... so a little unrealistic especially when we have a great RT flex we just signed, and could still sign Tyree Phillips as an additional tackle who played well once he's healthy.

I have zero, zero problem with the needs we addressed. I'd like to add a DT and #2 corner with the Waller money but we got better this weekend.

Quote from: londonblue on Today at 04:30:35 PMSpecial teams guy and offers a bit of interior schemed pass rush together with reliable tackling but his limited athleticism tends to means those tackles are further off the LoS than with Okereke and McFadden.

A surprise to me with Mahogany, Boyd and Wingo on the board. Have to assume some medical issue with Mahogany.

london: I think his potential exceeds just special teams. He will be voted most likely to get himself injured because he's under-sized, but the kid is fearless and willing to sacrifice his body to make a tackle. Bob

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on Today at 04:55:59 PMI went with average.

We are a way below average team that has generally had way below average drafts, so average is good for us right now. I'll need to see it to believe it for me to think this draft was better than average. I have plenty of confidence that Nabers will be a very good player, but any of us could have made that pick. The real measure will be all the other picks.

Just a question here. What would have had to happen to make it outstanding?

On his first point... he himself admits he's not surprised, so why list it as a surprise?

Second point: the percentage of picks traded over those not traded over the NFL's long draft history is miniscule; as for the aspect that Schoen has been more active in the past, maybe THOSE were the aberrations and it's actually his style to stay put.

Third point: This is great news for the Giants. Unless Schoen got "aced out" by teams ahead of him and was actually trying his darnedest to get a guard (highly unlikely) it indicates that he is very pleased with his free-agency results and may also indicate that hey has reason to suspect several of his own drafted OL's are about to "come through" for the team this season. I do not believe I'm grasping at straws in mentioning the latter point.

183. NEW YORK GIANTS: DARIUS MUASAU, LB UCLA
Height: 6-foot

Weight: 225 pounds

STRENGTHS
Effort
Blitzing ability
WEAKNESSES
Coverage potential
Power
Team Fit: Darius Muasau is an undersized Mike linebacker who lacks an elite trait and has tight hips, but his pursuit effort and plus blitz ability should allow him to compete for an NFL roster spot.

Grade: C-

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on Today at 05:04:28 PMAnd I never said that they shouldn't. I am simply disputing the notion that the league is not popular, or that it's only popular with non-serious, pop culture-seeking fans. I do not believe that to be a factually accurate statement. It is not backed up by the numbers, nor is it backed up anecdotally when I look at this forum and I watch/attend NFL games and see plenty of older generation fans in the stands.
LOL so perhaps my use of the word popular was a bit of an over reach. I wasn't trying to claim a demographic study of who likes or dislikes the current version of the NFL.

My claim was solely my perspective, and to share my disappointment in an organization that I grew up loving (I was born and raised less than 8 miles from the PFHOF).

Now my football consumption is mostly confined to our Giants, and a few select collegiate teams as well as High School.

I don't like the current schedule and if they go to 18 I'll like it even less.

The #Giants select Darius Muasau at pick 183, an undersized LB out of UCLA

He was a tackling machine who recorded 440 tackles in college and led his teams in tackles in each of the last four seasons.

He attended Hawaii initially and transferred to UCLA in 2022. He will be a depth behind Okereke and McFadden. Muasau had 573 special teams snaps and was a special teams MVP as a freshman at Hawaii.

I will get to his film over the next few days.

Rich: Sounds like a legitimate "pot shot" (which reminds me... one under-sized linebacker I thought would do well in the NFL - Eagles drafted him 2-3 yrs ago (Georgia Bulldogs) isn't really panning out. They over-paid. Bob

There must be something wrong with Mahogany that all the front offices know about but that eluded all the draftniks and mocksters. Everyone knows who he is. That he keeps getting passed on has to be for a reason.

1.

Didn't get a franchise QB.  Can't win without one.
