I hope I didn't jinx you Bill.

This one was a real slog for me. Took me a while and it's not like it's some obscure word.

All things considered, I am happy with a par.

To be honest, I was shocked when my par putt didn't go in and the last letter came up wrong.

Dumbass word choice. Unless we are living in the 18th century. I would and never have used this word.

Didn't like this word either. I can see the Times putting it in one of their crossword puzzles though.

I 100% agree, although how many times a year do you say "borax" in common conversation?

Seems like they're moving on to more obscure words more frequently than where they were a year ago.

I will say - doing things like past tenses and plurals seems like kind of a "cop-out" on their part.

At work, we had a 2003 Jeep Liberty.   Even though it was a base model, it had high-end tires.   It wasn't a heavily used vehicle, but eventually, the tires started to dry rot and needed to be replaced.  Since the Jeep was getting old and I didn't see us holding on to it for that many more years, I told the mechanic I didn't want rim protectors but I didn't see the point of high-end tires.

Well, once we got the Jeep back, I learned why even the base model came with high-end tires.  The vehicle had engineering flaws (the engine was too torquey and the backend too light).  You had to exercise extreme care while accelerating from a stop while turning as the wheels would start to spin and the Jeep fishtail.  The high-end tires covered up the design flaws.

I think the obscure words are trying to cover up the flaws in Wordle.  The problem was that people would develop skills that would make the game too easy over time.  For example, I am officially at 159 straight wins (there were another dozen or two that weren't captured before I synched all my accounts).   Games need to have a certain level of difficulty to make victories feel meaningful.   Another example would be guys like Bill, who routinely solve it with just half the guesses.

So when people start the game, it feels like the competitive challenge is pretty good, but over time the game gets "too easy".  I wonder if they should cut the number of guesses down to 5 to increase the challenge level.
