Yes, we had a horrible schedule last year, but even with a decent schedule, it still all depends on when you play certain teams. Last year, we started out, what, our first 6 games, against maybe the best teams in the league and it hurts to get slaughtered starting the season. It has to have an effect on the player's psyche. Give us a few winnable games in t he first 5-6 games and let t he team feel what winning really does for morale.
Did you forget 2009? I still remember the Safety everyone scapegoated. CC Brown.

Maybe it's all the years of disappointment. Or mediocre FA's and Draft picks that produced nothing. I feel like I should be excited over the upcoming season but I'm not. I do think they had a solid draft but I felt that way for many drafts. I like the FA's brought in on the O-line and the Burns trade but I've had that before.

Golladay and Toney were exciting additions to the receiver Corp in 2021.
Mckethan, Beavers, Flott, Neal, Owens, Riley, Grey, Flott and Hawkins entering second and third years after showing very little to get excited about.
Six years of Daniel Jones full of excuses after excuses.

Every season there was hope that the Offensive Line would finally come together. Those guys are all gone.

Injuries have ravished this team to the point where major players go down and it kills the team.

Come July however, this fan will be excited once again, going to camp and looking forward to a turnaround season that can sustain success and build off of it. Still, the QB and O-Line have a lot to prove. A new Defensive Coordinator and a new System will take some getting used to. Daboll is committed to designing around the talents of the players, at least Offensively.

So, what's your level of enthusiasm?

Let's hope there aren't any Diva comparisons.

If that were the case, wouldn't that mean that the Vikings knew the Giants would be drafting Nabors? I don't believe it. They were moving up to Draft McCarthy.

Nabers has the potential to be a HOF WR. Realistic best value will be determined in a few years. In 2019 Baker looked to be the best value but it turned out to be Dex and it took him a couple of seasons to prove that. Slayton was the second best value from my perspective.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 28, 2024, 07:38:08 AMI have been thinking.  Perhaps all the public QB shopping and the heavily leaked interest in Maye and QBs in general and the trade with the Pats were all just a smoke screen.  In Schoen's first year all the insiders had reported Thibs was off the NYG's board over character concerns.

The Giants may have really coveted Nabers.  There were reports that Nabers was the number one WR for many teams and that WR, not QB, topped the talent for this year's draft.   So here was Schoen sitting way down at 6 hoping to land the best player of the draft at a position of need.  What better way to pull that off than to make everyone believe the Giants were heavily pursuing a QB, even going so far as to leak it to Rich Eissen, who isn't even an insider?
That goes along with the sentiment of my post.

The elephant in the room is John Mara. It's obvious to me that Schoen partnered with him on passing on a QB. If Jones fails to elevate this team this season with the infusion of talent at WR, TE, RB and the FA Offensive Line upgrades, Schoen is safe for at least two more years. The only way Daboll would lose his job is if he imploded.

Mara has to pay Jones and there was no way he was going to sit this year out. Since as he said, they did everything they could to screw this kid up, his mindset had to be on giving Jones the support he needs to succeed. That's the only way a GM with no ties to Jones doesn't draft his own QB. All the BS about how Schoen took the job unconditionally, was all rhetoric because there was an understanding in place. They paid him knowing he would have at least two years to prove he's that Franchise QB.

The offer to move up for Drake Maye was weak. They knew the Pats needed a QB. They had no intention of ever drafting a QB. The signing of Drew Lock was their insurance policy.

Anyone who believes that Daboll and JJ McCarthy wouldn't have worked really didn't do their homework on that kid who has done nothing but win his whole life. I doubt Daboll was all in on this. If course he's no fool and knew how far to go.

So now, either Jones wows the football world, or Drew Lock gets his chance and if they both have nothin, say hello to Kurt Cousins in 2025.

They drafted good players to build the depth of the team. It doesn't matter if I disagree that they passed on three possible franchise QB's. They drafted well. It remains the same be seen if these players work out to their draft position. It remains to be seen if the FA acquisitions will improve the protection and support and elevate Jones to perform to his salary and expectations. It remains to be seen if Barkley can be easily replaced.

The question is about grading who they drafted. I give them a 4.

Good pick to backup Singletary and can learn behind him. He can return kicks, catch out of the backfield or out of the slot.

At least it's a bunch of C+ guys instead of the D- to C- group they had the bring in. I did want a Guard in the Second Round but I guess they wanted to upgrade the McKless Unit.
