It's hard to have any faith that we can draft a decent OL.  Other than Thomas, we seem to suck at picking talent.  Peart, Lemieux, Ezeudu and Neal (7th overall, no less!) come to mind.  And now I'm worried about Schmitz!  To say he "struggled" is an understatement.  Somehow, he hasn't been put under the same microscope as Neal but he's just as big a concern.

That said....fck it, draft Alt at 6, try Neal inside, hope Schmitz improves and for the love of God, sign a few competent Free Agent OLs, guys with tape, guys who you KNOW can play.  Then hope this new OL coach knows wtf he's doing.

If we pick McCarthy at 6, I will be needing a new TV.  I can't even imagine that's a consideration.

Many of those above but the first RB I really remember is Phil King.

There are certain times I know who the author is just by reading the headline. This was one of those times.

Quote from: MightyGiants on February 07, 2024, 01:56:12 PMLarry, a few thoughts:

1)  I am already seeing popular mocks with JJ going anywhere from 12 - 18.  So it's not unrealistic to think he couldn't end up top 10

2) Not addressing an issue is but an option, and like all the other options, it comes with risk.   Daboll may not see a season 4 if Jones pulls an Aaron Rodgers and suffers another neck injury on his third play, and the season is kneecapped before it can start.

OK, if I untangle that triple negative correctly, you're saying he realistically could wind up in the top 10.  Right?   ;)

Quote from: MightyGiants on February 06, 2024, 08:20:22 AMI listened to a few podcasts this morning.  Pat Traina interviewed a beat reporter for the Titans, and Nick and Dan went over the Xs and Os.   Some thoughts/points

1)  He's young, 37, with room to grow and improve

2)  He ran a bend but don't break defense that struggled between the 20s but did well in the red zone

3)  With the Titans he gave his DBs too much freedom

4)  He had Jim Schwartz as a consultant when he was in Tenessee. That's a pretty good DC to learn from

5)  With Schartz and Vabrel overseeing him, we don't know what he will do now that he is free to run his own defense as the true top man

6) He is likely to bring his own outside LB coach, Ryan Crow, to the team.  Crow did a pretty good job developing edge talent

7) He was described by the beat reporter as a good but not a great coach

8) From all I heard he reminds me of Patrick Graham

I involuntarily cringed and groaned when I hit this one.  "Bend but don't break" is right up there with "prevent" in my list of things I hate.  DBs giving 10 yard cushions on 3rd and 7 and we spend all year hoping to "hold them to three".  Great.

Just hope we're not the opponent.  Guessing it'll be the Packers.

Hard to get excited about this hire when you know he was no better than the 3rd or 4th choice.  All we can say is, "we'll see".

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Matt Miller Giants QB rumor

If true, this says a few things.  1) the Giants aren't interested in any of the QBs after the top two or three - or maybe one.  2) they believe all will be off the board by 6.  3) trading up is not worth the cost. 4) drafting a QB lower is, in all probability, wasting a pick that could be better spent elsewhere.

I tend to agree.

There are three QBs worth taking high and JJ clearly is not one of them.  Even taking him in the 2nd round would reek of desperation.  When you draft a QB, you want it to be with confidence, not hope. Even the top guys have uncertainty.  Drafting a QB lower is akin to buying a lottery ticket......and we're in no position to waste draft picks on a lottery ticket or hitching the next few seasons to a prayer.

Please, God, NO!  I don't want him at 6, I don't want him at 106!  I watched a lot of Michigan football and never came away from a game thinking JJ was the reason they won.  I want a QB but I'll stick with DJ before taking a flyer on JJ.

My loyalties lie strictly with my pool picks.  I have the 49ers winning and covering, 34-24.  I see the 9er running game being too much for GB, leading to lots of points and the Pack O can't quite keep up.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on January 15, 2024, 03:52:52 PMCould this blow up and cause Daboll to be fired in a few weeks?

Absolutely.  By the end of this week, in fact.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 15, 2024, 03:39:04 PMWhen seeking a true accounting when it comes to feuds, there is almost always fault from both sides (not equal fault, but usually both sides contributed).  So when you get an article like this which is 100% negative of Daboll and 0% critical of Wink, you have to think PL's sources were in Wink's camp, so to speak.

But at this point, anything Wink did is irrelivant.  I don't care what he did. He's gone.  We're talking strictly about Daboll now and if these things are true - and it's been written in too many places for me to believe otherwise and now this article contains that quote about the D losing the Washington game (reported by more than one person in the building) - this is a huge problem....and it doesn't sound like something Daboll can just turn off. It sounds to me like a fatal flaw in a Head Coach.
