I agree we go WR at 6.  What if Pennix is there when we pick in the second?  Do you go for him then even with the injury history:
Year   Injury
2018   Torn right ACL
2019   Dislocated right SC joint (non-throwing shoulder)
2020   Torn right ACL
2021   Separated left AC joint (throwing shoulder)

Thoughts?

Quote from: ViewFromSection129 on March 19, 2024, 10:14:51 AMThis is a great take and very underreported. In the Tom Brady years, the Pats won 76% of their games, while every other team in the AFC East was under .500, with an average of 44%.  The Patriots had 18 years of double digit wins (95% of the time), and more than 10 wins in every year since 2003, while no other team had more than 5 years of double digit wins (all other teams on average had double digit wins 19% of the time). The Bills were below 10 wins in all years other than 10 wins in Brady's last Patriots year. So, while not trying to denigrate Belichick or Brady, The Patriots benefited quite significantly from a very weak division.

Thanks for doing a deep dive regarding my post.  It even better highlights the beneficial position the Pats were in for such an extended period of time.

Albeit, the draft capital compensation for each player was not high, but this is seen to be a loaded draft, so even a 6th rounder could have some value. Plus it could become a 4th rounder.

As for Pickett, I have never been very impressed with him. Lock has  bit more pop to his game IMO. Also, Pickett may be a prima-donna type. He seemed to act very poorly when they started Rudolph over him.

The 6th round pick will be for next year's draft.

The Pats model was have Brady, be in a terrible division and build a great defense.  Guaranteed 5-6 wins in division, go 5-5 versus the rest of the league and you instantly have 10-11 wins and a shot at home field and a bye.  Worked for 10 years.  I think Buffalo could do the same thing.

If there are 4 blue chip QB's and 2 blue chip WR's and we pick 6th, just let the draft come to you and pick the BPA.

If Barkley ever gets into the Ring of Honor, then the entire concept is a farce!   :surrender:

I remember that Dallas had both Neal and Thibs as their top 2 players on their board.  I wonder how good Neal would be if Dallas got him?

I think Jolly used the term "misleading" I also think he used it correctly.  :greetings:

I'd really only be interested in Simmons at LB and McKinney at the right price.

Besides, we can draft a decent running back and make sure he has the traits we need, like blocking and receiving. There are always many options in the draft, we just need to be better at selecting the right guys with the right skillsets to be successful.

Sounds like a trade the Cowboys would make.

All good points Uconn, and i agree.  But where we either pick the wrong HC's or dump them too early, Dallas seems to hold onto them too long.  Garrett and McCarthy are both good examples.  I guess i'm just biased in my dislike for Dallas and i'd hate to work for JJ.  So maybe they're more stable but they're also as dysfunctional.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on January 24, 2024, 09:14:50 AMBut it's a fair question for sure. If I were a DC candidate with multiple options, I would want to go somewhere more stable like Dallas.

You think Dallas is more stable?  They haven't been to an NFC Championship, let alone a Super Bowl, in over 2 decades, they have an owner who is also the GM and the have a coach that is perennially on the hot seat and, by most accounts, should have been let go a couple years ago.  I'll give you that they have more talent but not stability.

I think Ed hit the nail on the head.  We can scout perfectly, but if we don't have the coaches to hone the skills of the players, it's fruitless.  We've seen OLinemen come here and get worse, not better.  I hope the new coaches can finally help build a good O Line!
