If OJ makes it down to 10 at Buffalo that could be a spot to trade up for him.  Probably we would be looking at our 1st and 2nd round pick this year and next years 3rd rounder.  OJ Howard looks like one of the elite offensive players of this draft, and the best TE prospect since Tony Gonzalez.  An elite TE would help Eli as he gets older as a reliable short/intermediate range target, and should be a dominant red zone threat.  It is pricey move, but possibly a low risk one, and could be the type of all in move that puts in the super bowl.  I doubt there is anyway Tennessee passes on him at 5, but if he drops a bit, it sure is tempting.

Or maybe the Giants learned, from past years, and are using disinformation to avoid having someone they really want snatched away by someone trading up ahead of them.

Hey, a guy can dream.

CO, somehow I missed your post and Bob's respose and wrote the same thing.  We must share the same conspiratorial mindset.

I am curious.  What have the Giants done or said that would be considered "telegraphing"?

2016
Titans trade up to 8 to take Conklin
Bears trade up to 9 to take Floyd
Giants take Apple at 10

2013
49ers trade up to 18 to take Eric Reid
Giants pick Pugh at 19

2012
Bucs trade up to 31 to take Doug Martin
Giants draft David Wilson at 32

The clearest example here is the Bears, who were at 11, and moved up to 9.  The only reason for them to move up was to get in front of the Giants, therefore, they knew the Giants would select Floyd.  Did they know that because Jerry Reese was drooling on his shoes at Floyds pro day?  I don't know.  But the Bears were convinced enough by something to give up their 4th round pick.  The case of Doug Martin may have been due to Mike Sullivan joining Tampa before the draft and spilling the beans.

Telegraphing may be as basic as the GM as tracking the GMs visits.  It was well documented that Reese only attends a hand full of pro days, and last year that included Floyds, the year before was Flowers.  It is not unreasonable to expect the Giants realized that gives other teams a clear indication of who the team is targeting, and this year they decided to throw everyone off the scent by feigning interest in another player.

Maybe after years of having telegraphed their  player targets and watching teams swoop in front of them to take their players, the Giants have gotten smart snd started blowing smoke.

With JPP and OV locked up and getting alot of money, I seriously doubt the Giants are going to take a DE in round 1, though it is likely there may be some at the top of their board.  Same goes for WR.

Looks like DE is off the table....whats left?

G.B.G., congrats on Apple. I had him on my radar, but I just didn't pull the trigger.
As for Butt, his knee gives me reason to pause. :suspious:
How bout some Tex-Mex? I'll have a Taco thank you.

I think Jake Butt has torn ACLs in both knees.  Yikes!  Might need a fact check there.  Its definitely looking like defense is more likely, Im thinking Jordan Willis or Hasaan Reddick, or after the visit, Cunningham.  Taco seems to lack athleticism for a 4-3 DE.

I am not seeing Hankins replacement falling to the Giants at 23.  In fact I have yet to see a DT that is at all exciting.

Montravious Adams is interesting in Round 2.

With the signing of TE Rhett Ellison & WR Brandon Marshall, is a 1st round TE off the table?

If our standard package is going to be 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB, it is hard to find more than 40%of the snaps playing time for another TE. Between the number of targets to spread around, and spliting playing time with a blocking TE or WR3, and some promise shown by Jerrel Adams as a recieving TE, it is difficult to see the value.

Personally I think Engram/Howard/Njoku would be great additions, but I have a hard time believing this front office sees that as a need now.

I don't know where he fits value-wise, but doesn't USC's Rhett Ellison seem like a perfect fit for the Giants?

Rhett Ellison, USC:

He isn't as athletic as others in this draft, but he is versatile, having also lined up as fullback and wide receiver for the Trojans. Ellison's father, Riki, played linebacker for the 49ers and Raiders.

Rhett Ellison made the transition from tight end to fullback last fall, a move that not only helped the Trojans but helped Ellison be ranked as the No. 1 fullback in the draft by ESPN.  Ellison is just under 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds with dependable skills and a strong work ethic. When the NFL scouts call Lane Kiffin to ask about Ellison, he certainly will tell them about the fact that USC renamed its team leadership award after Ellison. If there are still any doubts about his pedigree, scouts can look to his father Riki, a former USC linebacker who won two Super Bowls in a nine-year NFL career.

Yes.  I thought so.

NFL Draft, NY Giants style / Re: Joe Mixon
March 08, 2017, 09:59:11 AM
I do not think Mixon will be drafted, not being invited to the combine was a clear message from the league.

Fournette is going to be a beast, and he may well have something to say about it!

Just to point it out, OJ Howard had exactly the same 40 time as Fournette, at 6'6 250.

To me it looks like post-combine, OJ Howard is the clear #1 TE.  He ran  a 4.51 which is astounding, while Njoku's best was 4.64, and is a better blocker.

I would say OJ Howard is the best offensive prospect in this draft.

McCaffrey has NE Patriots written all over him. If he lasts past #15 don't be surprise if BB makes a move up to get him.

People are saying that, but I don't see why.  Belichick usually has several running backs, one is usually slow, but tough, and the other is a Vereen type, and he has James White and Dion Lewis in the Vereen role. I don't see it.  My bold prediction is Belichick sends Garopolo to Chicago for the #3 pick and takes OJ Howard there.

Do you think both Howard and Njoku will be gone by the time the Giants pick?  Or does Njoku's increasing value improve the chances Howard falls to 23?

It definitely helps that Miami ,who picks just before us,  traded for TE Julius Thomas.  But Howard and Njoku are such physically talented prospects, I really think there is a good chance they both go before any WRs are picked, and probably top 15.  Then again, TE is not usually the priority position teams are looking to address, so who knows, we could get lucky.

The problem is every board I use on the simulator has the same result - the top 3 TE's are gone, I just miss out on a DE that fits either and either have to reach for a T or RB. Worrying as all the best players available are DB's or players at positions we need who don't fit our size/schematic needs.

Ceri, I am looking forward to your review of the TEs, who is your #3 TE, Everett?
