The mantra used to be that you never have too many pass rushers.  As the league evolves, and as the spread, well, spreads, and we see more and more 4 and 5 receiver sets, maybe the new mantra should be you never have too many pass coverage guys.

If the worst case scenario is we come out of the 1st round with a elite/very good corner, I will sleep well.  I know there are some great TE options at the top of the draft, and I would be thrilled to get one of them, but the draft is also deep at TE, so if we can get a very good TE in round 2 or 3, I am ok with that.

Ramczyk, Ryan   T   6'6"   314   Wisconsin

If the Giants fail to upgrade at tackle I think it would be hard for Jerry Reese to pass on Ryan if he is still on the board.

That is my 3rd least favorite reason for drafting someone.  Reminds me of Prince Amukamara.

#2 is, they drafted the guy we wanted right before we picked, and we panicked.

My #1 least favorite reason for drafting someone is:  He is the NCAA's all-time rushing leader.

NFL Draft, NY Giants style / Players at 23
February 21, 2017, 07:26:11 AM
Positions & players I think are most likely in consideration at 23:

TE: David Njoku/Gerald Everett
If Njoku were there, which I don't think he will be, this would be a tremendous pick.
The universal belief leaving the Senior Bowl had O.J. Howard as the big winner at the tight end position.  But a number of teams rated Gerald Everett of South Alabama equal to Howard last week.
Everett was impressive both days he participated in practice and though he has a size deficiency compared to other tight ends, teams view him as the truest deep threat and downfield playmaker at the position.  There

I would not be too surprised to see the Giants be more aggressive than people expect in getting a 3rd recieving threat.  If that is in the draft or FA, I dont know.

Great write ups, I like how you really get into the history of the man and the player.

Do you have a read on potential 2nd and 3rd round OT prospects the Giants could draft?

I would be particularly interested in your assessment of Joe Haeg, North Dakota State.

Honestly none of the names being buttociated with the Giants really excites me.

Interesting, yet appropriate, word choice.

4-12, with wins against Wash, Hou, Ten, and a final win against a resting Eagles team in week 17.

You know the Giants love a tight end project.  Here's one:

Justin Jones, TE East Carolina
HT/WT: 6-8, 277

"Never a full-time starter, Jones (6 feet 8, 277 pounds) nevertheless was an intriguing NFL prospect because of his size and athleticism. His vertical jump has been measured at 37.5 inches, and he also bench-pressed 400 pounds. But all that potential never really translated to the field: He finishes his ECU career with 52 receptions for 598 yards and 12 TDs in 32 games."

Morgan Moses is interesting, and looks to be quietly rising up the boards.  Every year there are Tackles that go higher than expected, last year around this time Fluker was expected to go in the 20s and he went at 12.  Could the Giants surprise, bypass Lewan and take Moses at 12?

"When asked which draft prospect has elevated their stock that he might have missed the first time around, NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock mentioned Virginia T Morgan Moses.
Moses didn't test well at the combine, and he doesn't have a great body, but Mayock loves his game tape, a sentiment echoed by Houston SportsTalk 790 hosts Adam Clanton and Lance Zierlein. It's not hard to see why the footage swayed them: Moses succeeded against top-notch rushers such as Vic Beasley, Jeremiah Attaochu and Kyle Van Noy"

I don't know where he fits value-wise, but doesn't USC's Rhett Ellison seem like a perfect fit for the Giants?

Rhett Ellison, USC:

He isn't as athletic as others in this draft, but he is versatile, having also lined up as fullback and wide receiver for the Trojans. Ellison's father, Riki, played linebacker for the 49ers and Raiders.

Rhett Ellison made the transition from tight end to fullback last fall, a move that not only helped the Trojans but helped Ellison be ranked as the No. 1 fullback in the draft by ESPN.  Ellison is just under 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds with dependable skills and a strong work ethic. When the NFL scouts call Lane Kiffin to ask about Ellison, he certainly will tell them about the fact that USC renamed its team leadership award after Ellison. If there are still any doubts about his pedigree, scouts can look to his father Riki, a former USC linebacker who won two Super Bowls in a nine-year NFL career.

That looks like a solid draft board, lots of intrigue this year after pick 3.  Do you think it is only a matter of time before The Commissar Goodell bans boos at the draft?  You know, the safety of players feelings is his next mission.
