Big Blue Huddle / Re: What do we do with the IOL?

Quote from: Rambo89 on December 12, 2022, 10:23:56 AMOne thing the Giants can't do is force draft picks in certain rounds based upon needs.  They also need to be able to find some gems in the middle rounds.

Agree.  Cant force picks but need positions filled at some point.

To become the Eagles, we need drafts in which we fix 3-4 positions with a single draft with quality players.

This year we must solve a #1 WR, at least one IOL and an ILB.

I'd love to see us find a Ron Stone free agent type talent for IOL then draft another starter there then find a round 1 or 2 WR and a mid-round IOL.

No way Eli Manning belongs on Mount Rushmore of Giants.  Too many years of not being an elite QB.  This has to be reserved for the truly special.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Run defense and OL play

I will say this to the cows come home.  If the Giants want to fix their run defense, then draft Mazi Smith from Michigan to play DT alongside Dexter Lawrence.  He's 6'3" 337 pounds and is brilliant at taking on double teams and also good at interior penetration.  He'd rotate in with LW and DL and ultimately replace LW.  Currently, he's a 2nd/3rd rounder, but believe he'll light up the Combine to be 1st/2nd rounder.

Everytime someone says the Giants are close to being a good team they always fail to remember that the Giants have no depth and they are always playing into 2nd/3rd stringers by week 10.

Second the whole your record is who you are is bull5hit.  You can be 7-2 playing bad teams and your record is so overstating how you good you are.  Giant may go 8-8-1 after starting 7-2.  Chew on that.

Nearly every Eagle is better than their Giants counterpart.  Hurts throwing gorgeous passes without pressure or under pressure.  Players making great plays.  Hurts is so accurate.

But yeah. Cool.

No alcohol served inside or around the stadiums is probably the reason.

Peace!

France will respectfully disagree.

The formula seems to be to hold it to 0-0 then win it on penalty kicks.  Spain missing their first two penalty kicks against Morocco was something I have never seen before.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on December 09, 2022, 06:08:01 PMI agree another 3rd rounder and a couple 4th/5th rd depth at de/nt and that section of the team should be good.

One college player this year who took a nice leap in development with results was Zach Harrison from Ohio State.  He is maybe a 3rd round as of now but 6'4" and around 270 with very good athleticism.  He may be your mid-round edge.

Mike Morris from Michigan really stepped up as an edge following Hitchinson and Ojabo's departure.  Morris is more of a power player than speed player and rushes from the DE spot.

Quote from: madbadger on December 10, 2022, 07:23:10 PMHow about not coming remotely close to meeting rational expectations. It feels like you're just trying to be a pain in the rear end just for the sake of being one.

Relax.  You said one thing then another that was different.

I cant call a player a bust if he has significant injuries as a result of playing.  To me a bust suggests either the player was not as talented as expected or didnt work hard enough and develop or had nagging small injuries and didnt play through some of it.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on December 10, 2022, 04:13:04 PMIsn't it a little early to be conclusively saying what type of player Thibs is?

I mean if you go off rookie season then you would have called Josh Allen a bust as well.

Also Thibs hasn't been bad at all. He has been way better at his position than Josh Allen was as a QB in year one.

Dave - just used Thibs name in an example.  Not judging

Quote from: madbadger on December 10, 2022, 02:07:40 PMHe'd be a disappointment for sure but not a bust. A bust is reserved for a player that has no appreciable impact on the field whatsoever.

But you previously said doesn't live up to expectations is a bust.  In your definition and using ny example Thibs would be a bust.

Quote from: madbadger on December 10, 2022, 01:11:13 PMIn my mind a bust is a player who doesn't live up to his draft position regardless of the reason. If you want to apply a different set of parameters that's your choice. Doesn't make me wrong.

So if Thibs drafted at 5 is a 75th percentile player in the NFL but not a 90th percentile player he would be a bust because players drafted 5th probably should be Pro Bowl type players?

Quote from: madbadger on December 10, 2022, 11:33:26 AMSam Beal, DeAndre Baker and Aaron Robinson all went relatively early and all three have been complete busts. Hopefully we're due for a run of good luck at the position.

How do you call a player a bust who has suffered season ending significant injuries while playing?  Busts dont live up to expectations for other reasons, not getting injured on the field.
