No chance they bench a healthy Jones in week one, no matter how disparate play is in camp and the preseason. They don't want to humiliate Jones, and they shouldn't want to. He's a very good guy, and he tried his hardest here. There is no reason to rub his nose in his own failure.

Do I think they'll keep him in for very long if he continues to play poorly though? No.

Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 09:37:43 AMIn the 2022 offseason, most considered Daniel Jones a dead man walking.

Consider:

1) The Giants passed on exercising DJ's 5th-year option

2) The Giants signed Tyrod Taylor who many fans claimed was as good or better than Jones (he did have a Pro Bowl to his resume)

3) Jones had injury issues and needed to prove he could stay healthy

4) Worst of all, Jones was going to have to prove himself behind a mediocre, at best, O-line with no significant receiving targets.  He would get a bit of a tangential boost from Barkley (who already lost something after his major knee injury)

Everyone was writing Daniel Jones off, there was much talk about the QBs in the draft. Only Daniel Jones decided he wasn't ready to be dead and buried.  He dragged his under-talented team to the playoffs and beat the 13-4 Vikings in the hostile Minnesota stadium.  He earned himself a solid contract.

From Daniel's perspective, this is just deja vue all over again.   I am not suggesting that Jones will stay healthy and knock it out of the park.  I am just suggesting we shouldn't be shocked if Jones plays like a franchise QB and takes the team to the playoffs again while at least staying healthy enough.
Jones is a good player. just not good enough at the QB position. he has a lot to prove to everybody this season.

Quote from: TDToomer on Today at 09:35:43 AMWhy is it that CBS is willing to shake up their Football Sunday Studio Team but Fox has the same over the hill guys every season since the mid-aughts? Bradshaw is getting old and the way Jimmie Johnson pointed and screamed at the cameras during the Cowboys blowout loss to GB was a despicable act.

I agree. Bradshaw is pushing 80. He has had that job forever, plus he made plenty of money as a player. There aren't many NFL fans left who even remember him as a player.

Time to give an ex-player with a more direct understanding of the modern NFL a chance. Same with Johnson and others. Where does it say these guys get tenure?

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on Today at 04:12:02 PMIf we could pick more than one option, I'd click both 3T and boundary corner, as I see them equally important...probably the 3T more, just because we didn't draft any (maybe Casey Rogers will surprise  :-?? ). Unfortunately, this draft had some good 3Ts, but they were gone fast. We might have been able to get Wingo (not sure when he went, but it was much later than expected). I was hoping for Myles Cole who is listed as an ER, but was 6'5/295 and went late (7th rd to Jacksonville). I thought he could be groomed for 3T because of his size and being a successful ER

I would like a proven boundary corner, but also would like to see Flott and Hawkins III get plenty of reps to grow into the position. They don't learn the finer nuances of the position from the bench or in front of a white board. Still, a proven vet would be nice...especially if we were "going for it" this year (which I don't think we are)

I'm pretty happy where we're at and hope Daboll will allow the rookies to get their lumps by playing them. They need as much on-field experience as possible. It requires delayed gratification, which is in short supply among most fans, but I'm all for it. I'm not expecting a run for the Lombardi and would rather lose a couple of games we could have won, but got rookies plenty of time in the game

JOLLY by GOLLY!

Who needs another DT when we got this guy?!

Get to the 4th or 5th highlight.....shades of Steve DeOssie this guy (except at DT)  :P

I went for veteran 3-tech D. I'm not sure what's still out there but we never really replaced Leo and Ashawn is gone. We have no depth at this position. It's a problem.
