Quote from: Ed Vette on May 30, 2024, 05:50:42 AMChampionships are a team accomplishment.

Statistics are for losers

The only one that counts is wins vs losses

Also we seem to be wearing out Jaime Gillian's right leg

Lots of 3 and outs.  I'd love to see punt vs punt and time of possession stats for the jones years

It seemed Devito and Taylor moved the same team better

I don't think there is a lot of trade demand for Jones.  Whereas Taylor and DeVito did/will have no shortage of takers

Hopefully this is the make or break jones year

If he fails again there has to be a change

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on May 29, 2024, 01:02:22 PMThe only way Giants trade DJ is if they draft a "ringer", or think they have one. DJ's the man until a proven replacement is in hand. Sooo...might as well root for DJ to have a good (even great) year this coming season, cuz he ain't going anywhere without a better replacement...and we don't have one

All true
However I'm racking my mind to recall a QB who had a mediocre career and was trending downward after 5 yrs in the league, then turned it around.   Maybe Geno Smith

Can Daniel Jones follow in Geno's footsteps.  Maybe but I doubt it.  And we had Geno on the roster

Im fairly certain we have seen Jones as he truly is..... We made a mistake.  Admit it, rectify it. No one should be given 5 years of failure and then

We let Geno walk after the whole Eli fiasco, and let the HC- Ben MacAdoo, who had recently taken us to 11-5 go instead.   now it appears Tommy DeVito will be lost like Geno was.

I can see another conundrum coming where Jones does not improve and another HC walks the plank for his QB decisions.

I hope I'm wrong.  I truly want to see us back in the hunt this year.

Quote from: Gmo11 on May 28, 2024, 02:39:14 PMSo the Giants would be paying Jones to play for another team?  I have that as...unreasonable.

if he plays like last year it will be a blessing

Quote from: President Rick on May 28, 2024, 08:13:24 AMif someone wants DJ they can wait to see if we cut him.  no one wants that $40 mil. tab.

The Giants could pick up Half or most of that tab
They have to pay the guaranteed money out one way or another

on the other hand they have 2 relatively inexpensive but capable QBs riding the pine

this route might at least gain a late round draft choice or another player in exchange

Do I think it will happen- NO.  Not our style

Darius Slayton will have a breakout year.  Other teams will be doubling Hyatt and Nabors leaving Slayton one on one- 1000 plus Receiving Yds
#6
We might offer him and half his remaining contract in cash....or even pay it completely.  We have to pay his guaranteed money anyway stay or go.

Maybe the secret plan is to have Lock and DeVito fight it out after Jones has left for greener pastures.  I don't think Jones temeperment is well suited to NY.  He might be happier and thrive elsewhere

I know this sounds whacky, but it makes sense.  There is little likelihood Jones will be brought back next year anyway.  We might even get a late draft pick in the deal.

Is this a possibility?  I could actually see Jerry Jones wanting to put pressure on DAK and have Jones be there to step in if DAK gets hurt.

Quote from: kartanoman on May 27, 2024, 05:21:09 PMYou, along with many here, have bore witness to life and experience, not merely on a national scale but an entire global, where your message rings even louder and more powerful.

To state that humans have never learned is to dismiss those who have given their hearts, their efforts and, sometimes, their lives, in the name of peace. I understand your global statement, and the frustration behind it, but we should never quelch the indomitable spirit of those who tried, even at the expense of their own lives, to further the cause for peace.

For I have known many who are honored on this day who gave of themselves not to answer the call of a draft card, but to answer the burning passion within them to make a difference in this world. For it this day we mourn their loss, but rejoice their cause, and their legacy will live on because they made a difference.

Peace!

Agreed.  All respect for the heroes we honor today.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 27, 2024, 03:39:07 PMThey already benched Devito last year for Taylor so it's a non-issue.

LOL ok whatever.....Taylor had the best arm of the bunch but had decision issues.
I don't get the non-issue part though

Do you see Tyrod returning somehow?  The Buffalo guys loved Tyrod and grossly overpaid him

May 27, 2024, 02:40:05 PM
The bigger question is whether Daboll is a good HC period

That's what he was hired for

The jury is still out but leaning towards dismissal if further positivity is not provided

He needs to run the table this year, or at least earn a shot at the 8 ball

That gravesite photo cannot be unseen

Sad, Poignant, Unfixable

Its amazing that humans have never learned to drop the weapons and just enjoy their limited time on our planet as fellow residents on this beautiful blue marble.

Im old, have seen many epochs of war having somehow escaped the free trip to Vietnam (high draft lottery number).....I thought it (war) was dying down and yet its only gotten worse in this new century.  Heaven help us. Truly

Quote from: sxdxca38 on May 27, 2024, 12:25:25 PMOnce again I'm sure you're a nice person in real life, but let's think about this.

The reason why Tom Brady was able to start at QB was because Drew Bledsoe got injured. If Bledsoe never got injured, Brady never wpuld have played.

If BB had started a 6th rd pick in Brady over Bledsoe in 2001 he would have been fired.

The same applies to Devito.

If Daboll and Schoen bench DJ for Devito, an undrafted player, and have him start the season and he fails it would be a fireable offense, and there is no way Daboll and Schoen would do that.

I completely agree with everything you said.
Its doubtful we ever see DeVito play in another regular season game as a Giant

Hence I should heed my own advice and yours and drop it

Jones is our man and heaven help us based upon his last seasons play
Ive never seen a QB decline like him.  Its as if we gave him generational wealth and he then went into cruise control mode.   what was he averaging 2-3 downfield passes per game?

Maybe this new guy will get in there somehow and live up to his pre-draft projections
one can only dream.   Tommy will likely never clear waivers

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 27, 2024, 09:42:43 AMNo one, not ever Jones and the Giants can say how Jones will play (between recovery from the ACL and on-field inconsistencies).  So how exactly did you and the NFL network determine where Jones is ranked???

Personally I would have ranked him in the low 20s
They NFL.com, represent the league.  What do I know

When I saw they had Dak ranked #2 it did shed some shade on their opinions

I have Dad and Jones as relative equals.  Both are flawed

Thanks for this info

Confusing but explains a lot about the way rosters are created and sometimes good players let go

Roster management reminds me of those magicians keeping spinning plates aloft

NFL.com has Daniel Jones ranked 29th out of 32 probable starters in 2024.  How did we get in this mess?  With a 29th ranked QB your season is logically pretty much over before it starts.  Gettleman gave us Jones and followed up with Barkley.  Unless Jones re-invents himself he has to go as did Barkley before we can get back in the conversation.

Despite all this Im going into the season thinking playoffs. Somehow, someway we will overcome the problem

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on May 26, 2024, 05:49:38 AMIf that happens, it won't matter unless he has meaningful success elsewhere.

Keep in mind that a year ago the Giants were the only team in the NFL that was interested in him.
Quote from: MightyGiants on May 24, 2024, 07:10:13 AMI really don't see DeVito's comments as news.  Despite the coaching rhetoric about draft status being meaningless, when a team spends valuable draft capital on a player, it gives that player more stature.  It's likely been that way since the NFL instituted the draft.

Lets hope that does not happen.  Do you really want to hang your hat on Jones and Drew Lock?   Last year I believe DeVito pretty much ran the team in pre-season.  He started 6-7 more games during the season.   In that respect he is our most seasoned QB using 2023  data.

He looks the part out there.  Jones looked tentative and lost before injury. He. basically could not move the team downfield.   I have no idea what Lock brings to the party.

There is definitely a bias towards tall, strong QBs- Tom Brady, Josh Allen, Eli Manning types.  That overlooks the fact Joe Montana, Drew Brees, Dan Marino, and Fran Tarkenton were not overly tall and populate the top 10 QBs of all time list.

In todays NFL you sink or swim with the QB.  I'd prefer to not sink because of tall man bias.
