Big Blue Huddle / Taking an early temperature on...
Last post by DaveBrown74 - Today at 07:31:34 AM
I know it's still very early and we don't know what the final roster will look like, so by no means are these final or conclusive forecasts, but we are now done with the most critical leg of free agency and also the draft. Any additions to the roster from this point on are likely to be more incremental/supplemental rather than highly impactful. We know who the coaches are. We also know our opponents as well as the venues.

Given all that, as of right now, how do you currently see this season playing out?

SUMMARY: Iorry "Casey" Rogers grew up playing football and lacrosse — his father (Lelan) was the lacrosse defensive coordinator at Syracuse (2008-21). After
initially committing to Syracuse for lacrosse, he switched his focus back to football (as a defensive end and tight end). After a prep year out of high school, he
committed to Nebraska and was due for a breakout season in 2021, but a preseason knee injury derailed those plans. He earned his degree, then transferred to
Oregon (over USC and Auburn). Rogers displays above-average athleticism to play in gaps or work up/down the line chasing the run. He showed flashes as a pass
rusher (see 2023 Cal tape) but not consistency. The main concern is his ability to stay stout and leverage blocks to be a force in the run game. Overall, Rogers is light
on his feet (his lacrosse background shows) with disruptive potential, but he might have a tough time holding his ground versus NFL blockers.

WR Ayir Asante, Wyoming: A Franklin Township, NJ native, Asante scored six touchdowns on 21 receptions for the Cowboys this season after transferring from Holy Cross (Bobby Skinner)

DB Alex Johnson, UCLA: Johnson will reunite with his former teammate and sixth-round pick Darius Muasau after earning five interceptions in the last of five seasons in Westwood. (James H. Williams)

WR Jon Jiles, West Florida: Jiles put up 1,081 yards and 13 scores in a single season at Division II UWF. (Matt Lombardo)

OL Marcellus Johnson, Missouri: Johnson was a four-year starter at Eastern Michigan and primarily appeared on Columbia's special teams units. (Dan Duggan)

OG Jake Kubas, North Dakota State: Kubas was a part of two FCS national championship runs with the Bison. (Dom Izzo)

EDGE Ovie Oghoufo, LSU: Working through three schools in six years, Oghoufo spent last year in Baton Rouge with Malik Nabers, where he had 34 tackles (4 for a loss) and 2.5 sacks. (The Kneaux)

DL Casey Rogers, Oregon: Rogers earned 56 tackles at Oregon and also served as a personal protector on punts, where he notably rumbled to an 18-yard gain on a fake deep in Duck territory during the highly-publicized blowout win over Colorado. (Don Smalley)

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Schoen addresses the eleph...

The elephant in the room is John Mara. It's obvious to me that Schoen partnered with him on passing on a QB. If Jones fails to elevate this team this season with the infusion of talent at WR, TE, RB and the FA Offensive Line upgrades, Schoen is safe for at least two more years. The only way Daboll would lose his job is if he imploded.

Mara has to pay Jones and there was no way he was going to sit this year out. Since as he said, they did everything they could to screw this kid up, his mindset had to be on giving Jones the support he needs to succeed. That's the only way a GM with no ties to Jones doesn't draft his own QB. All the BS about how Schoen took the job unconditionally, was all rhetoric because there was an understanding in place. They paid him knowing he would have at least two years to prove he's that Franchise QB.

The offer to move up for Drake Maye was weak. They knew the Pats needed a QB. They had no intention of ever drafting a QB. The signing of Drew Lock was their insurance policy.

Anyone who believes that Daboll and JJ McCarthy wouldn't have worked really didn't do their homework on that kid who has done nothing but win his whole life. I doubt Daboll was all in on this. If course he's no fool and knew how far to go.

So now, either Jones wows the football world, or Drew Lock gets his chance and if they both have nothin, say hello to Kurt Cousins in 2025.

Quote from: sxdxca38 on April 27, 2024, 08:59:06 PMHi Lenn,

Please see my post to Dave that addresses a lot of your concerns.

To add to my post, I'd like to mention some of the QB's Daniel defeated in 2022, they are the following:

Lamar Jackson
Aaron Rodgers
Trevor Lawrence
Kirk Cousins (should've been twice)

Now he has Nabers, to go along with Wandale and Hyatt.

If they can get the O line to just play average, say ranked 17th-18th, Daniel will have a big year.

Speaking of "from time to time there are some posts that people make that make me say "Did he really just say that?"

You want fans to give credit for DJ, the individual, for beating the QBs/teams you listed, while simultaneously expressing it's unfair to evaluate DJ, the individual, because of a poor supporting cast?  So, he gets individual credit for the wins, but accepts minimal, to no, culpability for the loses?

Using your logic, Aiden O'Connel is better than Mahomes; after all, the former beat the latter head-to-head this year.

Surely you can see the fallacy in using Head-to-Head to support your position?  H-Town perfectly the QBR...

Nobody is stating DJ won't improve with better protection/wrs; however, it's incredibly unlikely he'll develop into the high volume passer required to win NFL championships in the modern era.  I suspect the latter is why the Giants tried to move-up with the Pats; unfortunately, they were desperate for a QB too, which drove the price too high for our Giants.

Quote from: AZGiantFan on Today at 02:49:27 AMI have my doubts whether Kraft was going to approve any trade out of #3 and Maye.  I don't think the pick we traded for Burns would have tipped the balance.
He wasn't.
