Mush, another stupid word for a name of a cereal.

"There is a greater purpose...that purpose is team. Winning, losing, playing hard, playing well, doing it for each other, winning the right way, winning the right way is a very important thing to me... Championships are won by teams who love one another, who respect one another, and play for and support one another."

Any time someone in my house eats oatmeal I will refer to it as gruel.

""The Turk" comes for all of us.  We just don't know when he will knock."

Never heard of the word. Only grueling which has no association.

I have heard of the word and have even used it.  This is the definition I am familiar with

Gruel is a truly unpleasant food — weak and runny, consisting of oatmeal or cornmeal boiled in milk or water. It's the kind of "slop" prisoners and other inmates of institutions were historically forced to eat.

Did your mother not like you? ;)

Reminds me of the Little Rascals episode. Don't drink the milk. Why not? It's spoiled.

And hence the origin of "grueling", as back in the day, "to get one's gruel" meant "to receive punishment."

Isn't that what was served to the Count of Monte Cristo when he was locked away on Devils Island for 20 years??
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

I think I  first became familiar with the word gruel in the novel David Copperfield.

Yeah. I was thinking it was maybe Oliver Twist. I'm sure it comes up in more than one Dickens novel.
