Very sad news. Prayers for Jim and his family.

Quote from: LennG on April 10, 2023, 04:57:12 PMI haven't been on BBH for a while, but I got an email from Dan and a call from Ed today about Jim and his health. I would say Jim and I were very good friends and this news really disturbed me. I speak with Jim all the time, about once a month, and last time he sounded well and was in good spirits.
I kind of knew something was up when he didn't send me a Passover greeting and when I sent him an Easter greeting it bounced back to me.
Anyway, I just called his home and spoke with his daughter. As said Jim is
terminal and expected to pass away any time now. He is at home but not conscience and it is just a matter of time. He had skin cancer problems but was OK until a couple of weeks ago when it seemed to have spread to his brain and he went downhill very quickly. His daughter said she will notify me when he does pass.

Just unbelievably horrible news. There wasn't a nicer man around and as huge a Giants fan as anyone could ever hope to be.
Couldn't agree more Lenny. We had lunch with Jim on several occasions and he was engaging and pleasant.

This place just won't be the same without Jim

I'm thankful that such a fine man got so many good years. Thinking of his loved ones...

I am so thankful that because of this website I got to be exposed to such a class act as Jim.

I am going to share why I say that JimV is one of the toughest guys I know.   It was some years back, when the Giants still held training camp up in Albany.   They held a practice on an unusually hot afternoon.  It had to be well over 90, and the sun was beating down with no shade.  A few of us were sitting in the crowded bleachers at the start of the practice, including JimV.   I was dressed for the hot weather with a hat to shade my head, shorts, and sandals.   Jim was dressed in long pants, shoes, and a short sleeve shirt.  At this point, Jim was around 80.

As practice wore on, very crowded bleachers got emptier and emptier as the sun and the heat wore down even the most ardent fan.   I have a strong preference for warmer weather, so I stuck around, but what I found truly amazing was that when the crowd dwindled to just a handful of fans (less than a dozen), there was JimV.  Talk about an ardent fan and a guy who was tough as nails.  He didn't care how hot it was or that he wasn't really dressed for the heat; he was going to watch his favorite team practice (not play, mind you, just practice) come hell (and I think that weather came close) or high water.

Jim came to join our group when Pat Traina discontinued her fan forum. I recall he came along with Jaime and The Chief. We first met in person at a tailgate before a Giants Game. As I recall he came with The Chief. Well, that was the first of many terrific tailgates we had together and a very memorable day at George's home in Troy NY. We celebrated Jim's 80th Birthday and Bill gave him an autographed photo of Coach Coughlin. Here's a short clip by brother Sam took of us at a tailgate.

Sadly, I just heard from Beth, Jim's daughter, that he passed away this AM. He didn't suffer and was in no pain. They are in the process of making funeral arrangements.

It is truly a very sad day.
I HATE TO INCLUDE THE WORD NASTY< BUT THAT IS PART OF BEING A WINNING FOOTBALL TEAM.

Lenn,

Thank you for sharing.  It will seem empty around here without Jim's forecast.  If possible, would you mind sharing the funeral home?  I'd like to send flowers; I didn't know him as well as you, but we had several things in common ( Mainers, AF , etc..). Conversely, if BBH was planning to send something from all of us, I'd love to contribute via Vemo, PayPal, etc.  Whatever I can do...

Thank you, Lenn. Very sad day. May God Bless and keep Jim in comfort.
