Quote from: Jclayton92 on May 21, 2024, 09:07:53 PMHe got overpaid. He's been bottom 3rd analytics wise the past 2 years. The Eagles overpaid for name recognition and what they think he can possibly do with their oline. Because it wasn't for what he's put on the field the past 2 years. His EPA, VOA, and every other offensive metric is ridiculously bad.

The market is what the market is.  The Eagles weren't the only team making a serious offer that was significantly above what I imagine you and many others thought a team would be willing to pay for a guy with such ridiculously bad metrics.  We'll see how it plays out, I guess, but it would not surprise me in the least to see Barkley have a good to great year and perhaps a spring in his step once he sees some daylight in front of him.

Big Blue Huddle / PFF top starting Qbs 2024
Last post by Jclayton92 - May 21, 2024, 09:26:14 PM
https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-quarterback-rankings-all-32-starters-2024-nfl-season

PFFs 7 tier rankings of the 32 Qbs projected to start for their team.

TIER 7: THE HOLDOVERS

29. DANIEL JONES, NEW YORK GIANTS

Jones was the third-ranked quarterback in PFF grade on his own team last year — behind Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito. Jones played in just six games in 2023 and was basically either elite or one of the worst-graded quarterbacks in a given week, with no in-between.

He is a good athlete whose rushing production and ability to escape the pocket have always been a big part of his game. But in four of his five years with the Giants, he has finished with more turnover-worthy plays than big-time throws. His average depth of target has also been low over the past three seasons.

Bottom 3rd
22 Russell Wilson
23 Deshaun Watson
24 Anthony Richardson
25 Bryce Young
26 Jacoby Brissett
27 Jayden Daniels
28 Will Levis
30 Aidan O'Connell
31 Sam Darnold
32 Jared Stidham

In Division:
6 Dak Prescott
9 Jalen Hurts
27 Jayden Daniels

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 21, 2024, 08:11:47 PMI don't think anyone was right or wrong about the RB market.  Part of the free agent value is tied to the positional strength of the draft, especially for a position like RB.  Last year there was a bumper crop of high end RBs to draft.  This year, not so much.

I think @Ed Vette has also been a huge advocate of letting the kid play LG for an entire offseason to see what we actually have and they just wont.
I actually think he would be best at Swing Tackle but yes, perfect one skill set. It's also physical training. It's rare that you find a Justin Pugh who is versatile. Even he had years at RT before moving inside. But what do I know.

Big Blue Huddle / PFF top 25 Wrs for 2024

25. MALIK NABERS, NEW YORK GIANTS
The second rookie to appear on this list, Malik Nabers brings an exceptional explosive threat to the table. He is extremely fast, sudden as a route runner, and is a big play waiting to happen from the slot or out wide. He gives Daniel Jones the best receiver he has had to throw to thus far in the NFL.

Other Rookies
Harrison Jr 21
Odunze 29

Other Wrs in the Division
CeeDee Lamb 4
AJ Brown rank 5
Devonta Smith 16
Terry Mclaurin 18

A man who literally gave his body for the game with no regrets at all. To fully appreciate this, I strongly encourage you to watch the NFL Documentary, "Disposable Heroes."

A true warrior, champion and Hall of Famer.

Rest in peace, aught-oh, and thank you for the great memories.

It seems Daboll and the new O-line coach are big fans of versatility, but I (and others) agree with Ed that getting players good at one spot and coordinated is more important.

Quote from: PSUBeirut on May 21, 2024, 07:12:43 PMI think there's also a good number of folks in the fanbase that are still stung by Barkley essentially being right all along about his worth on the market and pretty much everyone else being wrong.  Even the bitcoin thing he took so much slack for looks to have bounced back in a huge way (if he even stuck with it...who knows).

And Rich- I have an awful feeling that the hype train is not going to be the only thing to worry about when Barkley comes to town.  My gut having watched him for many years is that he's going to want to ring it up against us because of all the silly fan vitriol that's been spewed his way (and I think the Eagles staff, being the a-holes they are, will absolutely work to accommodate this happening).  So, that's definitely my bigger worry when he comes back to town.

As for me- no surprises here, I'm hoping he finally gets a creative OC and a solid OL to run behind- and, even if diminished by injury, gets back to that upper echelon of RB that he's worked so hard to be.  Just not against us.

I don't think anyone was right or wrong about the RB market.  Part of the free agent value is tied to the positional strength of the draft, especially for a position like RB.  Last year there was a bumper crop of high end RBs to draft.  This year, not so much.
