Has any fanbase had as long of a run of middling too-calm QBs to argue about?  I mean, we've been at this for 2 decades now.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 12:20:40 PMReasoned thoughts, Len. Remember that the book on Josh Allen was still undetermined until the Bills added Diggs.

Interesting.  I actually saw the impact of Plax (and Shockey) a little differently.  Plax was absolutely a security blanket for Eli and he really did pitch it up to him and expect him to make plays, which he often did.  It certainly elevated the passing game, but I always thought it made Eli a worse QB....lazy....  I personally thought Eli became a better QB after Plax was gone and he couldn't rely on that chuck it up mentality and had to refine his game more.

With Shockey, I think he had an overall negative impact on Eli also because he was so demanding about getting the ball in his hands- that Eli grew as a passer when Shockey left also.

Back to DJ- I don't think Nabers is a chuck it up type of receiver, for better or worse.  The better comparison to Plax probably would have been Odunze, but who's to tell?

Quote from: TONKA56 on April 29, 2024, 12:54:48 PMWell in another thread I mentioned that I hadn't had less confidence in an offensive backfield since we had Joe Montgomery.

That's hard to argue.  He had his best year as a pro last year and still didn't crack 900 yards on 216 carries, with 4 TDs.  And this should be obvious to Giants fans - behind a much better OL and with stellar QB play his entire career.

Yes, my bad.  I had both him and Montgomery on my fantasy team last year so they sometimes jumble in my head!  =))

RB by committee is a myth in the NFL, by the way.  Rarely do RBs come close to splitting carries- there is always a bellcow.  I'm assuming Montgomery will be ours and we'll see where the other dudes fill in sporadically.

This is always hard to do because we have the benefit of hindsight for the previous year's offense and how it actually played out vs. how we hoped it would at the start of the season.

At the start of last year, our TE position looked like one of the best in the league, our OL looked solidified with theoretically young highly regarded guys at both tackles and C, our star RB was a year more removed from major injury, our QB had just come off a playoff win....    Of course most of that was garbage, as it turned out.

I'd say objectively we are worse at QB than a year ago, much better at WR, a bit worse at RB, a wash at TE, and the OL I will never ever try to predict again as my hopes have been dashed so many times it's scary.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 10:20:26 AMParcells was famous for sending messages via the press.  I am pretty sure most don't consider him a "shitty leader"

You can't be telling me that Phil Simms or any other QBs Parcells coached ever had any doubt exactly where they stood from Parcells' own mouth.  I am 100% positive he did not need to send any messages through the press to his quarterbacks.  It's one of the reasons why he WAS such a great leader.

Also not saying Daboll isn't - I find it hard to believe that DJ needs to have a message sent through the media.  If he does, he's a lot weaker than I've given him credit for.

He absolutely needs to show more fire and passion.  I definitely question whether Daboll and Schoen really need to send that message through the media, though.  If they feel they need to do it that way they're pretty shitty leaders and have been way too soft on DJ.  It's time to suck it up and perform or go home, simple as that.

I rated it very good- looks like we matched needs with value picks where we got them and potentially have a superstar WR, which is quickly becoming another essential piece to an NFL offense.

I may have rated it higher if Schoen had been a little more aggressive in moving up to get some of the higher ranked CBs, but he didn't have much capital to work with.

I really like Theo and of course have seen him play a ton.  His trajectory when he started at PSU was to be a round 1 TE type of prospect- but IMO his upside was hampered by very inconsistent QB play in Drew Allar.  PSU also just never gelled under former OC Mike Yuricich and I think that took a toll on Theo's trajectory.  I really thought last year was going to be the year he was used properly as a focal point of the offense- especially since our WR corps was simply awful - but it just never materialized.

Anyway, I think we got a good one - I thought he'd go round 3 so it looks like a good value pick also.  Great get in round 4 for a team that needed a TE.

These rankings on day 3 are all over the map, which tells me that anyone who pretends to feel either really good or really bad about today is probably just throwing darts like everyone else!

Prediction that almost always seems to come true on day 2- there will be players that drop to our slot that most of us think would be a no-brainer grab him pick and we will end up with some other dude or weird position that throws us for a loop.  :ok:

I like it.  If we had gone McCarthy that would have been QB4 (or maybe even QB5 considering Penix just got drafted above him)- at #6, with actual legit #1 WRs on the board you had to go WR.  No brainer.

I wanted Rome above Nabers but am glad they got a #1 WR.

I think Daniels will easily be the best of the top 3 guys off the board.

Perfect guide- Thanks for sharing!
