Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 10:12:24 AMThe Giants had the worst offensive line in the league last year

Jones was pressured more frequently and quickly than any QB

Jones had no receiving threat of note

I am not sure what you define as excuses, but for those of us who try to be fair in our evaluations (we don't use charged language like "excuses"), Jones was put in a terrible situation for a QB to do well.  It's not to suggest that Jones doesn't need to step up his game, but I am not sure any QB could have done well in DJ's situation last year.

All the arguments against this exist on this forum. I won't reiterate them.  If you wish to ignore them for one-uppmanship - so be it.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on Today at 10:01:08 AMIf we are being honest he responded in 2022 by putting up the same production as Davis Mills, Matt Ryan, and Russell Wilson in what was considered the worst seasons of their career.

Let's just hope the running games and defense can carry him again.

I just don't understand the need to pump Jones up when everyone knows what he us at this point. A middling Qb that refuses to throw the ball deep and now he can't run.

If anything hope he sits on the bench and Lock starts so that we at least get the ball thrown down field and don't have to risk Jones getting injured again and his contract being guaranteed in 2025.

This is the Carolina preseason game all over again. How many times does Jones have to let you down for you to finally realize he's not it? Genuinely curious because we are past half a decade at this point and it's meh.

Yeah, I'm all for being behind him for this year, pieces are in places and broadly everyone is out of excuses (despite the fact that ought to be the case last year).

There are no excuses. He's cut or re-worked at the end of year. If he's Davis Mills productive then we know which way it's gonna be.

And frankly, I reckon the vast majority of this knows which way it goes.

I am convinced that all Giants fans will root for Jones to succeed but the leash is shorter than my forearm, in my opinion.

Edit - the health next year isn't enough. He's proven to stay healthy once. He needs the numbers in his games that don't pad out his performance. He won't have Barkley to run to a 6-1 start - this is all on him. Let's see what he's got

I also think this is a message to fans who are in two groups, for the want of better phrase:

Group A - those who want to move on the message was we know you think we need to move from Jones, we tried.

Group B - those who want to give Jones a weapon and a line etc. We are now out of excuses, he's having a beer in the last chance saloon. If he wants another drink, he sure as hell better produce.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 10:06:35 AMI am not going to dispute the possibility that Barkley's production will improve behind the Eagle's better line.  I will say though, that in Schoen's first two seasons, he brought in offensive linemen who were better run blockers than pass blockers.

That's fair. I guess like everything else it will be a wait and see.

For the record, I would not have wanted Barkley at his current price tag so I think the regime were correct to move on.

Decent points, Rich. My one area of disagreement is around running back. I have no issues for the committee approach in order to save Cap space but I think there will be a decline in production for the Giants.

Barkley ran behind the same line that gets criticised for Jones' lack of production but rarely (not aiming this at you) is attributed to Barkley's struggles. I personally don't think that's reasonable. If the Eagles line is adequate, I think he'll have a very good season.

Other than that, I largely agree with your points.

I'd be interested in Campbell as a vet leader.

That D is really young.

Daniel is an astute young man. I'm sure he could read the tea leafs.

It's down to him to justify the pay cheque with both availability and performance.

Quote from: kartanoman on April 29, 2024, 09:01:34 AMit's hard not to be impressed with a sweep - especially when the games were split 2-2 in the regular season.

As you say, Bread was impressive. A real nuisance and the secondary offensive players really stepped up.

Overall, hugely impressive. Well done.

BTW, I am in complete envy of you being in Greece, a place I would absolutely love to visit one day. The aqua blue Mediterranean Sea against the beautiful backdrop of the country's seaside towns is where I would love to vacation and explore its ancient history one day.

Enjoy it to its fullest!

Peace!

Thank you my friend, it's beautiful and very different to the 5 degrees we left at home.

Thankfully my good lady was fine with watching the game this morning, but she did have a few too many Margaritas last night lol

I do think Zeke has a bit left in the tank but he's not the superstar he once was. From memory and not looking up the stats I thought he was so-so down the stretch for the Pats.

That depth chart ought to be concerning.

Quote from: Trench on April 29, 2024, 07:56:00 AMFor those who feel this argument is still worthwhile, I'd love to know Jones career record against the NFC East and the individual teams in our division.

8-12-1 with 5 wins against Washington.

I know the Caps were the easiest draw for the Rangers but it's hard not to be impressed with a sweep - especially when the games were split 2-2 in the regular season.

I think it's a solid draft. Scored it a 4.

However, with so many holes everywhere, this ought to be the bare minimum expectation.

I do think the OLine will be better - some nice additions and a new coach - I can see why they didn't prioritise that position.

I would have liked a QB but circumstances dictate the elite ones weren't ready. And reaching for a lesser prospect will only prolong the problems with the position.

I'm in Greece this week so I won't be able to watch live as it starts even later than in the UK. Will avoid twitter and this thread and watch first thing in the morning.

I think the Caps will push hard early but they are decimated on D and the Rangers have too much firepower.

I think the rangers will win a close one but I'm fully expecting some shenanigans from Wilson so we have to protect ourselves.

Rangers to close out the series and rest up.

Quote from: Bob In PA on April 28, 2024, 12:31:12 AMI think it came down to the trade for Burns.

With Pick 39, IMO they had enough ammo to buy Pick Three from the Pats (and take whomever - probably Maye).

So which would you rather have... Burns plus Nabers -or- Maye?  My favorite (Daniels) was already gone so I say they're better off with Burns and Nabers (and they still have next year's 1st-round pick in case they stink again this season).

Bob

I agree with you, Bob. I think that's the position they were in.

Burns and Nabers is a huge price to pay for the 3rd QB in any draft class.
