That's on Taylor. There have been alot of stupid play calls both in College and Pros this year.

Great post, Larry. Fair or not the totality of the evidence tells me that Jones will not be the one to hoist the Lombardi. More importantly he is now on his second neck injury(2 strikes). He takes hard hits both in and out of the pocket. So far he has been very fortunate that the neck injuries have not been career threatening, or worse have long term health effects. I don't need to be a Neurologist to know that his neck area is compromised. I am not wishing it on him, but the next time(3rd strike) he may not be as fortunate. If he gets hurt again in that area that may force a retirement. Mara stated to paraphrase that the Giants have done everything they can to mess him up. Without any proof I believe his contract was a compromise between Daboll-Schoen and Mara. Thus the two year out. Usually new regimes get to pick their own "General". Daboll's toss the surface episode told me that after all the tutelage c'mon Daniel how do you not see the open receiver. Putting aside the supporting cast issue, and I feel you can, Jones has shown he has some of the qualities needed to be a winning QB, but not enough of them.

Sing along, head, shoulders, knees, and toes. Bad teams always have alot of injuries. I wonder if the Giants are responsible for insurance premium increases to the NFL Group Plan. Maybe they should relocate training camp, and practices to the basement of The Hospital For Special Surgery.

With the mention of Dave Brown anywhere, here, print, on line, two guys talking on a corner in Serbia, Dan Reeves(RIP) is spinning in his grave. For his folly George Young(RIP) now for eternity has to hear Reeves ask him what the f#$k were you thinking. From now on there should be a Giant organization rule that no scout should check out a Duke QB. Akin to the way Talus IV was regarded on the original Star Trek.

I figured it out. The problem is with the helmets. They need to replace the NY with Giants like they wore in the Parcells era. Whenever I see today's helmets I always think briefly of the mid 60's to early 70's Giants. After watching the short video I thought Jones is the only Giant in the picture with his ass on the ground, and what are each of the OL thinking when they see him down after being greeted by three Fish.

Mara said "we've done everything we can to screw this kid up". Some posters have suggested that Mara was an influence behind Jones' contract. Maybe he was as a way to compensate Jones. It was also structured with a two year out to benefit the team. We as fans want more immediate results, and like our "brethren" in Philly would boo Santa Claus. As an NFL owner Mara lives in a completely different Giant world than we do. Some on here(yours truly) have been Giant fans since 66'(the worst, I also have vague memories of 64'). The difference is no matter the record the Mara family cash register always goes ca-ching, ca-ching. We otoh have tv's taking flight out windows(watch out!), shock and dismay, masochists that pay good money for this crap(apologies, no intent to insult), and getting up to puke. Frankly there should be a practice where for producing consistently inferior products owners offer ticket discounts and free parking. Good luck with that.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Adjusted Predictions
October 09, 2023, 11:27:09 AM
I just hope they lose enough to be in position to draft their #1 or #2 choice at QB, or be able to acquire a boatload of picks for their pick. Frankly to turn this around they need all the picks 1-10, with the knowledge that 2-3 of those 10 will be busts. Football comes down to two things, blocking and tackling. The Giants currently have players who are not good at either of those skills. Other than a QB in the pocket is there some rule where defensive players can't hit a ball carrier low(knees and down)?

The game is missing players that hit like Butkus. I'll take one, and be greedy for two. He hit the way a football player playing defense should hit. He'd be flagged today for tackling the way he normally did. You know what, I would let the referees flag me all the way down the field for the opportunity to intimidate and outright scare the opposition. That's how defense should be played. Guaranteed if the 60's Butkus played today and the iggles tried the push play, and he was anywhere close to Hurts in the pile Hurts would be coming out of the pile not 100%. Frankly that's how you stop the push play, by taking advantage of Hurt's vulnerability. It's a bleep you attitude. Mother Theresa like before and after the game, like a Visigoth sacking Rome during the game.

If Jones really was "their guy" then the contract would not have been structured with outs after just two years. The look of disgust on Dabol's face is telling. Dabol probably showed Jones 35x what the correct reads are, and still he didn't make the throws. A good not even great QB has to stand up to pressure and make the throws.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Can we talk about Joe Schoen too?
October 04, 2023, 12:57:11 PM
I've been a fan since 1965. Their regular season record since then is 420-474, rounded up that is a .470 winning percentage for the last 58 years. Despite too few all too brief periods of success we root for a historical losing franchise even though the Giants are considered to be a NFL flagship franchise. I'll pause for a moment while you all grab a towel to wipe the cold water from your faces. Despite the fact that Schoen is not responsible for the Dick Jameses, Tommy Longos, Derrick Browns, and Ian Allens of the world Atlas would have a hard time holding up that world of truth. Yes while some of us are growing long in tooth(or don't have them any longer) we need to give some time for the Joe/Brian show to play out. They were first given a plate of cow diarrhea to hand in for the Pitmaster BBQ Contest. The look of disgust on Daboll's face Monday night tells me all he needs to know about Jones. After last season there was some hope, but Schoen correctly structured the contract with an out. If/when Daboll hoists the Lombardi as Giant coach Jones will not be the QB. Frankly the first thing to fix is the poor tackling. Football in it's essence is a violent, COLLISION sport, not a contact sport. When the Seattle TE played ole' along the sideline the first Giant to tackle(sic) him should have hit him in a full sprint anywhere from the knee to the hip sending him careening like a bowling pin into the bench area. Like LT said "play like some crazed dogs". Unfortunately there may not be enough junkyard dogs to go around. That's a topic for another thread.

Unless Jones does a 180 I think Daboll now knows the limit of what he has at QB. You could tell by the look of frustration(several times) on Daboll's face he requires/expects Jones to read open receivers and get them the ball. Jones just doesn't have the fearless element good to great QB's must have. Yes he can run and take a hit. His main job is to get the ball to open receivers. It's one thing to make the right read/throw and miss due to being rushed. It's a whole different thing not making the right read. As it stands now there will be a new QB under center next season.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Unwatchable Football

The woman I'm seeing called me midway through the first quarter. We were on the phone for the rest of the game. It was a wonderful distraction. No yelling at the tv, and attentive aggravation. The game became part of the background. I'm going to thank her later.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Is the issue expectations?
September 29, 2023, 12:15:25 PM
Yes,expectations are part of it. Another part is attitude. The attitude of the players. No one plays with the attitude of a LT, Ronnie Lott, Dick Butkus, Reggie White, Jack Lambert, Conrad Dobler. When Leonard Williams gets flagged for making a form tackle on Purdy you know the game has gone to hell. Want to stop the Eagle scrum play. Fine it's a first down, but Hurts comes out of the pile with fingers looking like the legs of a right triangle. Can you imagine the eventual result of the iggles trying that play a few times against the likes of the 85'Bears, 86' Giants, Steel Curtain, Doomsday? Ancient history you say. The human condition hasn't changed for many centuries. Football at it's core is a violent, collision sport. It is really our modern Roman Coliseum. No one plays with a f#$k you attitude. As Deion said years ago when he was doing NFL hilites "he made a business decision". I don't blame the players considering the owners really don't give two cowterds about them. Thank you for providing the space to rant.
