We traded this year's 7th rd pick for Boogie last season, but he barely saw the field  :-??

He was a 2nd round pick of the Bills in '21 (I think) and was highly rated. I've read that Wink didn't like (or want) him. I have no idea if that is true or not, but I know there was ongoing animosity between Wink and Daboll and I "think" that Boogie was a guy Daboll wanted and it rubbed Wink the wrong way...who knows

I've also read that he's a perfect 3-tech more so than a LB/ER. As closely as I follow the Giants, I have almost no knowledge of this guy. He was highly rated in 2021 as one of the top ERs in the class. I don't know what went wrong in Buffalo that they would give up on him and take a 7th for him...or if that was just a handshake over beers with Daboll...or if he just didn't fit in with the Bill's where they were overloaded. So hopefully, some of you will fill me in. I would love to find out that he's the real deal and politics caused him to sit the bench last year

1.  I think Hawkins is CB2.  He showed out last year all camp and then when games began he got overwhelmed. I think, with a year under his belt (because he came from such a small ODU program), he gets that spot.  It's between he and Flott, IMO.

2. Agree that Phillips has inside track.  I will add, though, that if Flott loses out on CB2 then he could factor here as well.

3. Agree with Pinnock and Nubin being starters w/ Belton playing as third "starter"

4. McFadden on 1st and 2nd downs, Simmons on passing downs as MLB2

5. LDE - not on roster yet.  Davidson, Riley and Phillips are backups.  If 1 of them is starter then I think the Giants are in trouble.  Yeah, its only run downs (I think passing downs it's 2 DL and Thibs, Burns, Simmons and Okereke (w/ Ojulari sprinkled in somewhere - maybe Dex and one of the aforementioned have hands on ground as 2nd "DL") but Davidson, Riley, Phillips are definition of depth pieces, IMO.

6. Nabors starts day 1.  Wandale in slot, Hyatt and Slayton fight for 3rd spot. McKenzie backs up slot and last receiver spot comes down to Hodgins, Ford-Wheaton or Boykin (special teams gives him shot). UDFAs on practice squad.

7. I agree it goes Singletary, Miller and Tracy with Gray as 4th.  Tough to predict between Gray and Miller as we have not seen what Turbo can do but I think Gray is limited so Turbo has upper hand for RB2.

8. I think Waller comes back so he is TE1 w/ Bellinger and Theo as 2A and 2B

IF   DJ was being completely honest about his second neck injury just being a routine stinger (and implying it had nothing to do with his prior )neck injury

IF the Giants can properly protect DJ, there is a reasonable chance he can avoid another major injury

Here was his write-up

Top needs entering the draft: Wide receiver, cornerback, quarterback

The Giants were on the clock at No. 6 overall Thursday night, faced with a fascinating decision: Would they take quarterback J.J. McCarthy -- which would have been an admission that they regret the Daniel Jones extension from the 2023 offseason -- or would they get a true No. 1 wideout for Jones in either Rome Odunze or Malik Nabers? They could start fresh under center or they could give Jones another year with the playmaker he has never had.

Ultimately, I think they made the right call, prioritizing a pass-catcher in Nabers (6), who is electric with the ball in his hands. Jones had a disappointing start to last season and then tore his ACL, but he showed his talent in 2022, when New York made a surprising run to the playoffs. Now he's going to have one more year to prove he's the guy, or the franchise will move on in 2025.

I would have taken a few other safeties ahead of Tyler Nubin (47) in Round 2, but you can't deny his playmaking ability; he had 13 career interceptions for the Golden Gophers. Dru Phillips (70) is a late riser who played a lot of slot coverage snaps in his career. With Darren Waller's future up in the air, I liked the pick of Theo Johnson (107) early on Day 3. He's my fourth-ranked tight end in the class.

This is a small class, but all four of the Giants' top selections should have significant roles this season. Nabers might end up being the most-targeted player on the team.

A bit of a stretch calling Theo another "Mark Bavaro"...LOL, but I'd take that. Personally, I'm hoping he is more like Jason Witten who always knew how to be open and get the first down and the QBs best friend. Of course, my feelings are directly proportionate to my disgust with how Witten single-handedly made life miserable for Giants' fans for years. I'd like to return the favor to Dallas

Former GM Jeff Diamond gives his grade on the Giants

 NEW YORK GIANTS: B+
Despite the rumors, I never believed the New York Giants would pick a first-round quarterback. Daniel Jones was a solid quarterback who won a playoff game in 2022 without a premier wide receiver. As he comes off his ACL injury, he's undoubtedly happy to welcome an elite receiver prospect in Malik Nabers.

The former LSU wideout is explosive and close in ability to Marvin Harrison Jr. Nabers had 44 receptions of 20-plus yards over the last two seasons (and 14 touchdowns last season) playing in the SEC.

Second-rounder Tyler Nubin was the top-ranked safety in the draft. He defends well against the run and pass and will replace Xavier McKinney.

Andru Phillips adds talent at cornerback and Theo Johnson is an athletic tight end —  a good fourth-round value. He's insurance if Darren Waller retires or gets hurt and a possible successor. Tyrone Tracy brings speed and explosiveness to the backfield in the later rounds, and Darius Muasau can be a sixth-round find at linebacker and on special teams.

Here is Diamond's resume

Jeff Diamond is a former general manager of the Minnesota Vikings and team president of the Tennessee Titans. He was selected NFL Executive of the Year after the Vikings' 15-1 season in 1998.

He now works for the NFL agent group IFA based in Minneapolis and does other sports consulting and media work along with college/corporate speaking. You can follow him on Twitter @jeffdiamondNFL.

'Hi, honey, this is Daddy. Is Mommy near the phone?'
'No, Daddy. She's upstairs in the bedroom with Uncle Paul.'
After a brief pause, Daddy says, 'But honey, you haven't got an Uncle Paul.'
'Oh, yes I do, and he's upstairs in the room with Mommy right now.'
Brief pause.
'Uh, okay then, this is what I want you to do. Put the phone down on the table, run upstairs,
knock on the bedroom door and shout to Mommy that Daddy's car just pulled into the driveway.'
'Okay, Daddy, just a minute.'
A few minutes later the little girl comes back to the
phone.
'I did it, Daddy.'
'And what happened, honey?'
'Well, Mommy got all scared, jumped out of bed with no clothes on and ran around screaming.
Then, she tripped over the rug, hit her head on the dresser and now she isn't moving at all!'
'Oh, my God!!! What about your Uncle Paul?'
'He jumped out of the bed with no clothes on too.  He was all scared and he jumped out of the back window
and into the swimming pool.  But I guess he didn't know that you took out the water last week to clean it.
He hit the bottom of the pool and he may be dead.'
Long Pause
A Longer Pause
Even Longer Pause
Then Daddy says, 'Swimming pool?....Is this 486-5731?'
'No, I think you have the wrong number....'

Big Blue Huddle / Re: UDFA tracker

Quote from: londonblue on Today at 11:01:56 AMMarcellus Johnson has the kind of profile which suggests a legitimate shot to make the practice squad. If a rookie UDFA coming off an injury, even a high upside one, challenges to earn a swing T/back-up role that is not necessarily a good sign for us.

He appears (to me anyway) to be a project that they think can be molded into a solid backup. I think they are thinking (hoping) Philips is over his injury (torn quad) and how quickly he recovers from the surgery he had in January

To me, I'm more interested in seeing what Alex Johnson the skinny 6-1, 170-pound Cornerback from UCLA, is going to do. The Giants paid him the second most money to get him to sign (115k I believe). Primarily a slot CB, but is versatile and can play multiple roles - sort of a younger version of A-A-ron Robinson without an injury history. His film looks good, and he seems to have a nose for the ball - yet another "ball hawk". Will probably need to add weight as did Flott

As with any UDFAs, most are camp fodder, but usually one or two find their way to the practice squad and sometimes even more

The three I'm watching closely are Marcellus Johnson, Alex Johnson, and Casey Rogers. If one or two workout, that'd be a win IMO
