He's destined to create a ton of sacks with his complete lack of pocket presence.

The man was rookie of the week last week and has the team on a two-game winning streak.  You might want to cut him some slack.

Tired of watching mediocre QB play for this team. We won't compete until we get real QB play.

Considering how "sudden" his rise to the position of starting QB was, I think he has done a great job.

There is so much to learn, and you can't learn it by reading a book.

It takes time on the field and IMO he needs a lot more before we can see how good he can be.

Yeah, HE has them on a 2-game winning streak.  Too funny.  They had 1 drive over 40 yards yesterday and all 10 points were scored on short fields.

We scored 10 points against a terrible team and all the points were really set up by the defense. The offense was putrid. The standard here for QB play is incredibly low.

D: I don't think our standards (or the team's) are low.... we are just stuck with what we've got right now.

And so are Giants. The guy they thought could win games is unavailable, so why play an old guy with no upside?

In a wasted season, why get a solid backup QB injured and maybe end his career with this OL when it costs us nothing and, at worst, gets us a better draft position to play DeVito?  I don't think there is any consideration for Taylor, not because they (or we) don't like him, but maybe because they DO !!!

You misunderstand me. I don't care who starts the rest of this season. I just am annoyed by the love fest for this mediocre QB because he's Italian and from New Jersey. If we don't address the QB position with a high pick, we have no chance to compete for the next two seasons. The situation is very dire.

to a great extent a lot of you are blaming the wrong position

if your RB gets a consistent 1 yd or worse on downs 1 and 2

3rd down becomes a nightmage as opponents know you are not running and then can pin their ears back and go sack the QB (both Jones and DeVito)

We have a very highly paid RB who just does not move the rock except for one or two long runs per game (maybe).....nice guy, great character guy but he has to go

also the Oline will not put out a great effort if they know the RB is likely to fail

Blaming Barkley is ludicrous. He's the best offensive player on the team.  DeVito constantly creates sacks on his own. But you will make any excuse for him you can. Just like the Jones crew will do with him.

D: Sorry about that.  I don't love the guy.  I think he's not ready for prime time, but still doing ok especially considering the adverse circumstances. Sometimes, fire makes steel. We can only hope. lol

Nice, Rich, but even a blind pig finds the occasional acorn.

I'm NOT denigrating that throw or DeVito but I promise even the best QB's just plain get lucky once in a while.

If he does it again next week and the next week (two would be enough) THEN I might get a change of underwear ready.

Rich-He made a couple of throws. He's still a mediocre at best prospect. Did you listen to Dan's postgame. He agrees with me more than he does with you.

1)  I will be more than happy if we find a solid backup QB in Tommy D.

2)  I don't share your hero worship of Dan.  Dan isn't an NFL expert by experience or training; he is essentially a fan with a gig with CBS Sports as part of their fantasy football team.

Now if you have a former GM or HC or even someone with some college-level coaching experience or formal training, then I would be more inclined to listen.

I don't understand how some posters can come to the conclusion Tommy D is just a mediocre QB who has somehow miraculously righted the ship

I will say he can still get better.  However, we will have see how that plays out over the rest of the season.

He has made life miserable for the Draft-Tankers on here no doubt.

Give him a better Oline and a back who can move the chains on 1st and or 2nd down, and he
should excel.

Positives-

Positive Attitude

-Cool under pressure
-Shows leadership and confidence in the huddle
-very few mistakes
-works throughly through his progressions
-a terrific touch on most all of his passes- puts a catchable ball on the money and not over their heads or behind receivers
-young, respectful, and willing to learn
-he works very closely and keeps an open dialouge with the coaches
-so far- a winner
-good pedigree from his stint at Illinois, and Don Bosco
-overcame much adversity at Syracuse but emerged intact
-Does not cost us much CAP
-very aware of ball security
-His teammates seem to really like him
-He is a feel good story on a team that has been in the dumps for a long time

Negatives

- a little slow escaping the pocket
- has to overcome the status of an UDFA
- takes too many sacks

Summation

Lets ride with Tommy the next 6 games and see where the chips fall.  As for Tanking- not in the NYG DNA

Nick Falato coached in college. I'd put that pod up against your hero worship of the failed Browns GM.

You said Dan, not Nick.  Nick's opinions are worth considering.

And one more thing. The few clips you cherry picked were fine to use. But not the evaluations that disagree with your notions. Maybe I should leave this place again. Doesn't seem opposing views are welcomed.

Unreal. Dan's views being discounted just because they contradict yours. He puts in a ton of time. Not rehashing excuses. Ok. I'm done. Maybe I'll come back at a different time. But I'm out for now.

I must have missed something. Are there some clips you posted that showed Tommy in a negative light, and they weren't welcome?  Can you post a link to them?

I "put in a ton of time" as well, but that didn't stop you from discounting my views "just because they contradict yours."

It's hard to imagine getting this emotional about the likes of Tommy DeVito in the midst of a 4-8 Giants season.

No, but I'm 1/4 Italian, so maybe I should feel some degree of emotion about it.

DJ faced better teams but they both faced Dallas. Less attempts and more TD's. Higher sack %
