Quote from: President Rick on May 07, 2024, 03:20:27 PMwell said.   and remember Carl Lewis....as they say about baseball pitchers.....all that speed and no control, i.e. for football....HANDS.

I remember hearing an interview with either the radio voice or a beat writer with the Bills immediately after the hires.  He said look for the Giants to increase the speed among wideouts as it was a trait Daboll values

I never get tired of watching these clips   Reminds me of how this magnificent horse captured the imagination of the country.

Go back and get a copy of Dave Klein's paperback, "Giants Again" which tells the most complete story of how the Giants worked through "The Wilderness Years" all the way to the other side with George Young, AND Ray Perkins getting the Giants into the 1981 playoffs. A gutsy call in the 1979 draft to pick Phil Simms, and luck on their side, in the 1981 draft, when the Saints took George Rogers with the first pick, which opened the door for the Giants to select Lawrence Taylor, and the rest is history.

Peace!

Back in the day I would drop notes to GY and he always answered. I still have a few 40+years later. Prior to the 81 draft I asked who he planned to select ( he was always frank and forthcoming in his responses ). He replied back .. I haven't even told my confessor who I'm taking. In a post draft note he thanked his lucky stars that the Saints were one of the 4 teams that had a higher grade on Rogers than LT. BTW, Rogers and LT won OROY andDROY respectively and this draft also produced 8 HOFers

Quote from: ViewFromSection129 on May 03, 2024, 03:17:15 PMWe've had next to no mid to late round hits in 15 plus years, which is why we have been stuck in the mud as a franchise.
Bingo!

Quote from: Philosophers on May 03, 2024, 05:13:55 PMI am not surprised.  That year felt to me the NFL teams falsely manufactured prospect QB talent than was actually there.  Other than Lawrence nobody during the college football season said Wilson or Lance would be top 5 picks.

And unless you were/are a fan of FCS football there's a better than good chance you never saw Lance play

His Pro Bowl year the team was 2-10-2 after being oh so close to the NFL championship just the year before.  My guess is he was the lone NYG representative

Remember him well'62 was our first year as season ticket holders. My guess is he would be a flex TE as opposed to an inline one, in today's parlance

Agree with most said here about DS. If there is a reasonable $ number for a guy that still drops too many passes for my liking, go for it

Quote from: LennG on May 01, 2024, 03:44:11 PMIf the dc can find the right place for Simmons he could be a true game changer. He is more than a situation type player.

As I said when he was re-signed, finding the right place was a question leading up to the draft and five years later DCs continue the elusive search

Understand Esiason out too.

I can't remember the last time I watched any of the pregame shows, regardless of network

Asante transferred to Wyoming from Holy Cross.  He'll be competing with another former Patriot League rival, Dequece Carter who was invited to rookie minicamp.  Carter transferred to Indiana from Fordham. Having watched both for 4 years, I think Carter was the better WR (though I admit to being somewhat prejudiced  ;))

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 29, 2024, 11:47:37 AMI think Love was more of a leader than McKinney.  We always hear about McKinney's leadership, yet I have never witnessed any direct indication that McKinney was a true leader.

He wore a "C" so that must account for something

Quote from: EDjohnst1981 on April 29, 2024, 09:13:08 AMThank you my friend, it's beautiful and very different to the 5 degrees we left at home.

Thankfully my good lady was fine with watching the game this morning, but she did have a few too many Margaritas last night lol
I bet fans of the Predators had one too many as well!
