Big Blue Huddle / Re: Super Bowl Commercials
February 13, 2024, 10:41:01 AM
Quote from: LennG on February 12, 2024, 08:21:18 PMMy wife who NEVER, EVER  watches a football game, decided yesterday was the day to start. (She was only interested in the commercials. So I asked her which one she liked the best--The Hellman's Mayo commercial with the 'talking' cat.

I heard they asked the cat who the new head coach of the Patriots is. The cat got it right! 😆

Quote from: madbadger on February 13, 2024, 08:32:35 AMThe difference between the Giants and those two teams is that the other two have found pro bowl players and/or excellent starters in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds. Until we can start finding players like Kelce, Kittle, Samuels, Chenal, etc with consistency we won't be competitive with the top teams.

I know it's been beaten to death by me and others but it's incredibly toxic to have people in your personnel department whose primary qualification for the job is a genetic connection to Wellington Mara.

Anyone else thinks Chenal should wear #5 jersey? 😀

Quote from: Ed Vette on January 26, 2024, 01:18:54 PMCould he have been fired for another reason such as impropriety? You don't know, do you? Have you talked with him since? To have security escort a Director out the door seems to be extreme.

Ed, I don't know all the reasons. I worked with him for 10 years and he never flirted or made sexual overtures towards women as far as I can tell.

I just learned he has 15 days to appeal and he plans on getting a lawyer.

I'm really upset by the firing of my boss today. He was the Director of Dining Operations at a local University.  He patiently waited in the wings for the Director job for several years and he got his promotion last year.

We use an outside food service contractor to manage the dining program as far as ordering food, supplies and managing the University's union workers. The food contractor onsite managers were not pleased with the promotion because my boss is unhappy with their performance and felt they overcharge the school on food and supplies. My boss did some digging to find replacement vendors for the near future. I will call the current company Company X.

Company X knows my boss is a bit of a jokester and says things to get a laugh. Company X knows that.  They came up with a plan to save their jobs. They filed a harrassment greivance with the school's Office of Equity and Inclusion stating my boss made them uncomfortable. I was present at two of the incidents as well as a Company X manager so I was interviewed by an investigator.

They were friendly digs aimed at me. They were benign. Nothing bad. We do that at each other. When my boss made those two jokes, I laughed and was not offended at all. During the interview I told them I was not offended in the least. I received an email 4 months ago from the investigator that the case is now closed.  My boss told me that his boss is on his side and he knows what Company X managers on campus are trying to pull.

Well this morning two security guards escorted him off the campus for good. His career and reputation may be over. I can't believe the school and the Office of Equity and Inclusion came to this decision. Are they trying to make an example of my boss? I don't know. Are they without courage? I don't know.  The threshold for dismissal should be much higher than this.

The Front Porch / Need new PC advice
December 27, 2023, 11:23:21 AM
My son bought me a new HP all in one computer. My old PC is 13 years old. It still works but it's slow. On the old PC I have Bitdefender and free Super Anti Spyware.

My son transferred Bitdefender to my new PC although it came with free McAffee for 30 days.

What do you recommend for best protection? Bitdefender or something else? Super Anti Spyware Free or something else?

The Front Porch / Re: What are we watching these days?

I saw a surprisingly good low budget movie on Tubi.  It's called "Know Your Enemy".

A woman cuts off a middle eastern man twice in traffic.  He follows her home and forces his way inside with a gun. He terrorizes the woman and her boyfriend about what she did.

Strangely, he asks the couple a lot of questions about their personal life and relationship. He end goal is a mystery.  A good tense drama. Here is the trailer.

So is there hope that Ezudu or McKethan will ever be decent linemen? Do they have athletic traits that make it possible?

The Front Porch / Re: Something weird happened yesterday
December 18, 2023, 09:34:57 AM
I had something kind of weird happen on my new Lowes Visa Card.

I went to Lowes to buy a new toilet. A worker on the floor helped me out. Then he told me that I can save 20% on my purchase today if I open up a new Lowes Visa Card so I went for it. He had a handheld device in his hand and he asked me a bunch of questions. When he was done, he printed out a "temporary card" that I could use immediately. I checked out at the register and everything was fine.

On the first day of the third billing cycle there was an online purchase at Lowes for $259. Luckily I check my credit card activity once in a while. I called the number on the card to tell them what happened. She closed my card and she said a new card will be mailed to me. I asked her what was purchased and where was the item shipped to? She said she couldn't tell me.

I'm sure it was an inside job. Perhaps the worker with the handheld device printed out my card info to use later.  I think whoever did it waited a couple billing cycles until he/she made the purchase to make it less likely to tie the purchase to him/her but also wait until I let my guard down and not notice the purchase.

I didn't activate my new Lowes card and I never will. Their security is suspect in my eyes.

I read a book on helium. I couldn't put it down.

I took a picture of a wheat field. The picture came out grainy.

A truck full of Vicks Vapor Rub overturned on the highway. The area was congestion free for eight hours.

Perhaps Gettleman mentally "retired" before he took the Giants GM job.

Yeah. Our OL blocks worse than those electric football game pieces.

A local sportscaster talked about DeVito living at home in a condescending way.

I lived with my parents until I got married in my thirties. As soon as some women found out I was living with my parents, they dropped me like a hot potato.

Then there are comedians who make jokes about people living with their parents.

Well it worked out for me as I was able to put down a nice down payment on a house.
