Big Blue Huddle / Re: Barkley to the Iggles

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 12, 2024, 10:39:15 PM1 elite team last year, the 49ers had an elite Rb and they didn't even pay most of his salary Carolina did.
They didn't invest a first round pick in McCaffrey either. They did what smart teams do which is to get a talented RB at a bargain.

Quote from: PSUBeirut on March 12, 2024, 05:26:21 PM3 out of the 4 teams in the championship games last year will head into next year with "premiere" RBs:  Lions, 49ers, Ravens.  2 1st rounders and 1 2nd rounder.  And the other team has Patrick Mahomes.  And, of course, the Eagles just added and paid a 1st round RB.

So when you say elite teams- do you just mean the Chiefs with Mahomes?
You're crediting 2024 rosters for what was done in 2023. In 2023 Gibbs was a committee back for the Lions and didn't lead the team in rushing but you elevated him to a league premier RB. Derrick Henry didn't play for the Ravens last season so what does he have to do with their success in 2023 which was achieved with a committee of RBs, two of whom were undrafted and the other was a fourth round pick. Meanwhile Derrick Henry's team finished 28th in offense and missed the playoffs.

The reality is 3 of the 4 championship game teams last season did not have a premier RB.

Quote from: JT39 on March 12, 2024, 04:07:18 PMI'm the opposite spectrum. I think a QB is now more in play and Jones will sit the entire year or possibly be a post June 1st cut.
If Schoen and company are smart, yes, I think you're right. But the Giants haven't made a lot of smart moves over the last decade or so. So who knows what they have planned.

Quote from: Giant Obsession on March 12, 2024, 04:39:17 PMDeVito will be gone by middle of training camp, if not sooner.

Coach Sparky ('we needed a spark") wants him out as soon as possible.
As long as we can find a way to move past the Daniel Jones era, I'm fine with whatever direction they go in. At least with DeVito there is a widely shared understanding that the team stinks and is only competing for draft position. With Daniel Jones we have the multi-year myth that this team can win a championship with him, complete with a pro-Jones marketing campaign that includes former Giants greats falling over themselves to tell us what we're seeing Jones do on the field isn't what's actually happening.

Jones, Lock, and DeVito? They better have plans to draft a QB next month.

He went full heel mode lol
Saquon should take a break from social media. He got his bag. He should just enjoy this accomplishment and stop reading the comments. It's not a good look for him. This reminds me of when LeBron signed with the Heat and leaned into the bad guy character. People aren't going to like you when you leave their team and that's fine. It's part of the business. He needs to grow up and let it go.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on March 11, 2024, 07:36:59 PMBrian Burns is a beast, what they don't tell you is that he was virtually the pass rush in Carolina, he had no help and so he was doubled constantly and still had solid numbers.
Andrew Thomas, who has first hand experience trying to block him, calls Burns an elite pass rusher.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 11, 2024, 05:20:26 PMIf the offense doesnt improve I don't see how Daboll survives.  Even if they are playing a rookie QB.

The team seemed to be behind him last year as there wasnt an effort dropoff when they were out of it. If the offense continues to be one of the worst in the league, I doubt that is the case again.

Regardless its March and a lot can happen before September.   Right now I feel like this year is going to be a 2 or 3 win season but maybe Runyan takes a step forward and Neal becomes a competent RT and they have a decent offense.

Sorry, but today has made me about as pessimistic as I get in the offseason.
If the OL additions don't work out, we're screwed.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Recap as of 7 pm
March 11, 2024, 07:22:32 PM
So are they a better team on paper today than they were at the end of the season? It really comes down to whether the two OL work out, but I do think the roster is better today than yesterday. I'd rather have the edge rusher and extra help on the OL than to spend big on a safety and running back.

Schoen basically turned an aging Leonard Williams into an edge rusher just entering his prime. I like it.

The bet here is teaming him with Thibs and Dex allows Burns to take his game to the next level.

Before they can finalize a trade, they likely have to agree with Burns on a contract extension. We're likely talking about a 2nd round pick plus another pick, plus a $100 million contract.

It would be a big commitment from the Giants and a huge upgrade to the defense.

Quote from: EliWasrobbed on March 11, 2024, 04:09:43 PMJust likes Schoen "saw more in" parris campbell, mark glowinski, etc??

He has been proven to be absolutely clueless and constantly overpays on guys he likes.
Schoen has a lot to prove. I don't disagree.

Not a fan of the price tag but this is who they targeted on day 1 so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They may see something more in him that what he's shown so far. Let's hope he plays with as much heart as his old man.
