I think that the long run that contract AZ gave Murray is going to make our Golladay pink elephant look like a steal.

Yeah, maybe.  But there is a very sizable contingent that seem to be unable to say anything about something he does well without appending a great big "BUT . . .".

With our coaching staff's propensity to tailor the game plan to the opponent, I thought this was both interesting and maybe a sign for Sunday.

Rushing yards given up to QBs by Detroit:

Hurts - 90
Wentz - 23
Cousins - -1
Geno - 49
Zappe - 5
Dak - 0
Tua - 19
Rodgers - 40
Fields - 147

That's interesting.  I never realized that the waiver order was based on current records, not the previous year's record.

We are just one big dysfunctional family 🤗

Great rant.

Quote from: GloryDays on November 14, 2022, 07:11:15 PMDon't forget AZ, this last game against the Bears they had a monstrous 4th quarter.

I said that they through like gangbusters in the 4th quarter.  But only after sleep-walking through the first 3 quarters.

Theit defense also gave up a huge amount of yardage to Fields, so that may be something in their defense that our braintrust can exploit.

Quote from: GloryDays on November 14, 2022, 03:04:27 PMDetroit is also playing inspired and hard nose football, like their coach... That game may also be a real tough one to pull out a W.

My sense of Detroit is what you say, except they've had a hard time sustaining that for 60 minutes.  Their first half against the Eagles may have been one of the toughest halves the Eagles have faced, but then Detroind couldn't sustain it.  They sleep-walked through 3 quarters against Chicago and then came on like gangbusters.

And the reality, IMO, is that with our roster no team should be regarded as a pushover, so you're right, this could be a tough game.  And if Detroit puts 4 quarters together it could be a very tough game.

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on November 14, 2022, 02:18:01 PMIf a QB goes 1/1 with 100 yards and a TD (and assuming a +2.0 grade on the play), he doesn't get a 100 from PFF . Volume of positive plays matters. If you don't understand how their grading system works, that's fine, but you don't get to simultaneously be ignorant as to how the grade is computed while saying it's invalid.

The point isn't how the grade is figured, the point is the result, which far too often is way out of line with how any expert observer would evaluate the player.  If the PFF process produces grades that make no sense then the grade and the grading process are invalid, or at least just a relatively small value data point.  For an example, football is a hugely situational game.  Which makes it absurd to treat every play equal in the grading process.

Quoteyou don't get to simultaneously be ignorant as to how the grade is computed while saying it's invalid.

Yeah, you do.  You don't need to know how the sausage is made to tell whether or not it tastes good.

Quote from: zephirus on November 14, 2022, 08:35:06 AMCouple of thoughts on the offense in general yesterday:

- the missed opportunities by the offense, especially in the first half made this game closer than it needed to be.
- The Giants had 4th and 1 at the Houston 36.  A false start wiped it out and forced a punt.  I thought Daboll might have been a bit too aggressive here.  It was still the first half (end of the first quarter).  Why not put Gano out there for a 53 yarder?  That early in the game I'd take the points/fg opp over a 4th down QB sneak.
- The Giants had 3rd and 15 from the Houston 32 (mid second quarter).  Not a fan of the play calling here.  Run a screen or something quick.  Daniel Jones can't take a sack there and he did, again missing out on potential points with a field goal opportunity (49 yards assuming an "at worst" incompletion).
- We also got stuffed on a 3rd and 2 early in the 4th.

Obviously we can't be perfect but we definitely should have had at least 3-6 more points on the board in the first half.

Let's not forget about the points the Texans left on the board with their 2 red zone turnovers.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on November 14, 2022, 10:56:06 AMInteresting tidbits at this point in the standings

The Bills: pretty much the unanimous "best team in the NFL" and favorite to win the Superbowl, fell to 6-3, tied with the Jets and a game behind the Dolphins. Josh Allen (declared by most to be the best QB in the NFL) has thrown 10 interceptions (the most in the NFL) over the past 10 quarters, and has had seven turnovers in that time span. Along with Patrick Mahommes, Allen leads his team in rushing yards. History shows that when QBs lead their team in rushing, they rarely make the playoffs and have never won a Superbowl. note: the top rushing QBs this season are (in order) Allen, Mahommes, Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, and Justin Fields

The Cowboys: The strutting proud Cowboys are 6-3 and in third place in a four team division...behind the 8-0 Eagles and 7-2 Giants. Dak threw 2 interceptions yesterday and allowed the lowly Packers to come from behind to win the game. The Giants should take a page out of the Packers strategy and combine pash rush with pounding the ground. Regardless, it always delights me to see the Cowboys lose...something they usually wait until playoff time to fall on their face

The Chargers: The much ballyhooed Chargers and superstar QB Herbert have shown that Herbert is more human than originally thought. For the season thus far, Herbert has thrown 6 interceptions and has a QB rating of 55.2 ranking 13th in the NFL. Compare with Daniel Jones 2 interceptions for the season and a QB rating of 60.2 ranking 8th in the NFL

The Seahawks: The biggest surprise team of the season fell to 6-4 after a devastating comeback by the Niners. Geno Smith had a QB rating of 54.3 for the game, but was bested by Tom Brady (85.9 rtg). Is Geno a flash in the pan or the real deal? Should note that for the season Geno has a 67.2 QB rating (4th best in the NFL) compared to Brady's season QB rating of 54.5 or 15th in the NFL. Tua Tagovailoa leads all QBs in the NFL with Mahommes not far behind and Josh Allen coming in third

Parity is showing its reality. SB Champ Rams are dead last in their division with a 3-6 record whilst the Bengals are struggling with a 5-4 record. Stafford has run out of gas with a season QB rating of 47.4 and Burrow struggling with a 55.5 rating after showing superstar-in-the-making last year

But, but, but, DJ missed an open Slayton yesterday.  In a game we won.

Quote from: killarich on November 14, 2022, 11:39:30 AMI think it's funny that one bad throw is still a topic of conversation the Monday after a win lol

They must be rioting in LA and Buffalo right now

It kind of reminds me of the game thread a couple of weeks ago when Jones completed a pass to someone and there were about 3 pages of moaning and excoriating Jones because the pass had been a little behind the receiver.

Here I was looking forward to some mellifluous saxaphony from Kenny G and instead we got "treated" to his rendition of John Cage's 4'33.

Quote from: LennG on November 13, 2022, 08:09:34 PMI just want to clear up one thing. I am thrilled the Giants won. I did not knock anything about Jones's play today. He did what was asked of him. What I did knock was the play calling mid-4th quarter when we seemed to be content to have a slim lead and never went to put the game away.
People are posted DJ played great and he did play well. He made no mistakes and managed the game as planned. I agree. It just irked me and st ill does, that we go into a sort of shell to protect a lead instead of going to put t he game away.

They don't have the talent on the roster to put teams away - even bad teams.  This is all being accomplished with baking wire, duct tape, smoke, and mirrors.

This is not directed at you personally, Lenn, but I'm just a little surprise that after putting up with garbage for ten years any positive thing the team does now seems to be met with grudging acknowledgement and a healthy dose of shade.  Team wins and it's 'I'm happy we won BUT . . .' or DJ makes a great play and it's 'that was a nice play BUT. . .'.

It's an astonishing level of carping and nitpicking - particularly when most folks here would have been relatively pleased with a 7 win season, let alone a 7-2 team.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on November 13, 2022, 08:08:49 PMBig loss. Packers were due for a solid game at some point. I'm happy for them as LaFleur has seemed pretty classy recently despite his team's struggles. Rodgers I have less affinity for but I like the franchise in general. And obviously I loathe the Cowboys. Good to see.

That was a heck of a play from Rodgers to Watson on that big pass.
