BBH Archive / Re: Rate the Head Coach

I couldn't pick any of them.  For me while I don't blame Tom Coughlin for what has happened the last three seasons I believe it's time to move in a different direction.  The Giants need to rebuild before Eli has nothing left.

There will always be those that can not remove past accomplishments from current performance, loyalty from unbiased review, fear of the unknown from the known, etc....

Same could be said for the Jerry Reese defenders.

One other angle that has not been discussed- how does Mara sell to the fan base another  year of a coach who has not made the Playoffs for four years.

Selling the fan base now with the new stadium is much different than it was under his old man.  There's a lot more to lose and gain financially.  Which is why I wouldn't rule out the Giants uncharacteristicly firing the GM and HC.

I'm excited we might make it to .500 this year.  Was Happy we shed some Payroll and hopefully improve our infield and bullpen.   Outfield and starting rotation not bad.  New owners would be nice.

Right now I think they win 77 games.  The rotation is worse with Colon replacing Harvey.  At Colon's age I am not confident he performs near what he did last season.  The lineup is better though especially if Chris Young gives them something.  It's too soon to say what the bullpen will be.

For me, I would consider a successful Met season if it included the following:

-80-82 wins
-Wheeler has a solid injury free season where he pitches 200 innings.
-D'Arnoud proves he can be a solid everyday catcher.
-Either Duda or Ike proves they can be a solid everyday 1B.
-Tejeda finally gets his act together proves he's a long term solution at SS.
-Prospects like Syndergaard, Nimmo, Plawecki and Matz continue to progress in their development.  In the case of Syndergaard I'm not necessarily looking for him to be called up as I am him to put up innings and pitch well.

Those things would put the Mets in a position to possibly contend for a playoff spot in 2015 with the return of Matt Harvey.

One thing about the Yankees everyday line-up is that it needs to get younger.  Now Montero being a DH and not so much an everyday position player didn't fit on the Yankees, so trading him is something that is no big deal.  But sooner or later they need to start to add some young everyday position players.

They were the best team in the AL East before Friday night and they are even better now.  Yankee fans all in all don't need to worry about them.

Another example of other teams giving the Yankees their prized possessions for under market value.  I have no sympathy for these teams when they complain about the Yankees.

I wasn't alive to see it as a comparison but how did Game 6 of this years WS compare to Game 6 in 1975?

Well I'm sure Sinorice had a highlight film when he came out of college too.  And he came out of Miami not Troy.  Now I'm not saying this guy is as horrible as Moss, but the comparison is fair.  Both small, fast, WRs who will have a tough time seeing the football field.

Agreed, hopefully he turns out to be better than Moss.  If he ends up being a bust this was a very bad pick especially when you consider the other needs the Giants have.

Play calling has been spotty thus far today.  I think eventually they need to get Bradshaw in there to run the ball to mix things up.

And the officiating has been awful especially on the Phillips hit and the no holding call on the Townsend on the last possession.

Wasn't it Matt Cavanah (sp?)?

Beating the two time defending champs on their homefield with a back-up QB............................it's hard to ever top that.  IMO that game was maybe even more difficult to win than the Super Bowl especially when you consider the 49'ers had beat the Giants in the regular season in 1988, 1989 and 1990 (The 7-3 game).  As a Giant Fan that was my favorite win.  The only thing that could top that win is the Giants winning a week from Sunday in Glendale.
