The Giants' BY FAR biggest roster need is at tackle, and I am certain that they will address that at #5. On that I believe we both agree.

You two might, I don't.  Yes RT is our biggest need but in a scenario with all three T's available at 5 and Carolina more likely to trade out than pick 6th - no other picks before R4 remember? - unless we have a big gap between our first and second ranked T I'd take my favoured defensive weapon rather than risk getting jumped for them. We still get a top 2 RT, probably the one we want the most anyway.

Only way I'm taking T at 5 is if our top T is gone and there's a bigger gap between our 2nd and 3rd ranked T and our best available defensive player

Nice job and great material! Thanks for taking the time and effort for the Group.

Ceri, any thoughts on Roberson out of Wake Forest? They also have an Olineman coming out as I recall.

The OL is Zach Tom. Played LT last couple of years after spending 2019 at C. I need to go back and see what I can on on 2019 as what I saw at T this season v NC was very Shania Twain (that don't impress me much!). If he looks good at C I will add him to my day three list because I didn't see the anchor at T or for G.

Roberson I need to see more of. Might be a late add to my list so thanks for that. More interested in seeing where he lines up than his numbers. I know they're good.

Players discussed, by position
Interior Line: Zion Johnson (Boston College), Kenyon Green (Texas A & M), Cole Strange (Tennessee-Chattanoga), Luke Fortner (Kentucky), Dylan Parnham (Memphis), Luke Goedeke (Central Michigan), Jamaree Salyer (Georgia), Cam Jergens (Nebraska), Spenser Burford (Texas-San Antonio)

Running Back: James Cook (Georgia), Pierre Strong (S. Dakota State), Rachaad White (Arizona State), Brian Robinson Jr (Alabama), Dameon Pierce (Florida), Abram Smith (Baylor), Tyler Allgeier (BYU)

Now you've listed them Brian,  I realised I left a player out of the commentary that is on my draft board at each of these positions  ~X(

On the IOL, that's Sean Rhyan (UCLA) who was a 3 year starter at LT but who was aligned on the right several times a game in an unbalanced front on short yardage.  He's the size I like (320's) but has more of a G body, athleticism and arm length so likely moves inside. Had a good game against Thibodeaux and unlike Will Hernandez he can actually see a stunt coming (!). I think he's likely to go in the late 2nd/early 3rd so if we take him as a G, as with Raimann, he could offer an emergency T option.

The other one I missed was RB TJ Pledger (Utah). Very much a day three option, amongst the smaller role playing backs he caught my eye as he can run delayed draws - vital in a pass heavy offense - catch the ball (though not used much to do so) and, yes even pass block quite well. Athetically,  he doesn't stand out at all but little guys with a stiff arm always have my attention!

Love the guys you hit on here because many have either been connected with the Giants or seem like they could be great fits for what they may want to do scheme wise.

Any additional thoughts on Christian Watson and/or George Pickens? I think these 2 may be severely underrated in terms of where they may be picked.

On the OTs also any thoughts on Tyler Smith as well. Some chatter he is going low round 1.

Thanks!

With regard to the WR's, while I'd consider Wilson in R1 (after small trade down) and Dotson in R2 those are BPA types, not because I'd target a need at those positions that high. I'd expect to be taking someone at 36 I have in my top 25 fits for NYG at positions we need help (yep, pretty much everywhere!). To me there are far better players on the board at 36 than either Watson or Pickens who will make a more immediate impact. I think both will go in the top 50 but that's too high for my consideration. I also don't think there's a chance either lasts to 67.

As noted with Penning, a pet hate of mine is penalty prone guys on the OL. Absolute drive killers! Smith had 14 pens including 12 holds last year. He's not on my board either.

The problem with Ogletree, guys, despite his ability to generate turnovers, is that he often puts himself out of position while attempting to generate turnovers, which IMO does about as much damage as good.

Bob

Certainly understand that viewpoint but our defense isn't good enough to bend but not break and sure as he'll isn't good enough to dominate. As such, right now I'll take a plethora of turnovers as an equaliser.

ceri: How about the "other half" of MP's point, that Tomlinson isn't the type of knifing or penetrating presence Spags wants next to Snacks?  That has been raised by some of the "experts and gurus" and although you and I agree about Tomlinson, I was wondering if you saw anything in his film that would lead you to believe there is a dimension to Tomlinson's game that would allow him to stay on the field in passing situations.  Bob

Actually I think they wanted two run pluggers in the middle just like last year as by taking up blockers they allow the likes of Landon Collins to have a free role and hide our deficiencies at LB. Penetrating players would change the way we play defense. I like the way it was played just fine!

Most people on the board appear to love the DT (Dalvin Tomlinson) pick as discussed in an earlier post, but to me he is going to have minimal game impact beyond, at best, holding the line of scrimmage, which is something any of the available free agents Jared Odrick, Jaye Howard, Dan Williams, Sen'Derrick Marks etc. could have provided.

Odrick isn't a line of scrimmage holder and had a shoulder injury last year; Howard was put on IR last year with a hip injury and missed 9 games; Williams was cut by the Raiders who considered him a liability and only let him play on 35.3% of snaps; Marks hasn't been any good since he blew out a knee a couple of years ago and was only a backup in Jacksonville last year.

I get you don't like the pick but  you're grasping at straws throwing out the names of players who are firmly on the downside of their careers. 31 teams don't consider them a priority signing, the other one cut them!

My ESPN stats geek cousin is convinced Garcia is not getting out of round 2 in a weak OT draft class it is his belief he may be the best after one year of NFL strength and technique work. He thinks that view is now quite widely shared on the to side but how teams see it is anyone's guess.

I might be a little low on Garcia but he's a pass blocker only in my mind too weak to make much of an impact in the running game.

Thanks UK!  One question though. I know you have Watkins and Adams listed as 4th rd targets.  Do you think the 3rd rd for either would be a reach?

Yes, that's why they're in R4 not R3

Ceri, incredible work, as always, on your draft analysis. I will disclose up front that I am very biased with regard to this topic but I have one question: I realize this draft is a RB heavy class but why have you largely overlooked Khalid Abdullah from JMU?  He had an amazing college career (until this year splitting carries) and is the kind of versatile RB that could thrive in the Giants offense. I'm not suggesting we would draft Khalid early, but in round 7 or as a preferred FA he could be gem. He is a stellar person off the field- and the Giants had him in for a visit.

The list isn't exhaustive. It's pretty deep but there are a few people I could have added at T like Adam Bisnowaty (Pitt) or Conor McDermott (UCLA) who will both go in R4/5 as well as at other positions but for Eli's sake I hope we're not getting into deeper fallback options at that position!! I don't know Abdullah. I've actually seen everyone play that is on my board!

For those of you who have taken the time to listen to the podcast I thank you as it saved me an awful lot of writing in order to get my views across as to positions I think the Giants should consider, the type of players that I believe are 'fits' and where I would consider taking them.

My complete 'Giants only' draft board is below. Simple premise really. Those not selected by other teams that aren't taken by the Giants in the designated round drop down to be the top targets in the following round. As we take a player at a position of need those playing the same position come 'off the board' altogether reducing the talent pool available.

There purposely aren't any WR's, G's, C's or FB's listed by design as I don't believe we will take on additional help at those positions. Similarly, I don't believe we'd select a QB before the 3rd round - and I see very few 'fits' for our drop-back passing scheme who have the talent to succeed Eli in a couple of years time - or a DB though as espoused in another thread earlier today if we did look at a corner USC's Adoree Jackson would be the lone one I'd consider, and largely because he has amazing return skills and could help offer big plays on ST's without the need to risk OBJ.

Additionally, with the exception of Cam Robinson, I have removed all those with first round talent who also have 'red flags' be they for character, injury or motivational issues as I can't see us selecting one of them.

Have at it!

Thanks to Ed, Rich and Brian. It was fun! Will do one post draft as well :ok:

Too rich at #10 for my blood. According to the NFL Draft Trade Value chart we could get up to #14 for our 2nd round pick. Or up to #18 for our 3rd round pick.

Not too keen on losing our 2nd but I'd consider it. Giving up our 3rd? I'd snap someone's arm off pulling that trade so quick!
