Big Blue Huddle / Re: Last minute Drake Maye rumors

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 25, 2024, 05:30:33 PMIt's exactly what I said it would take. Do it.
I don't think NE wants to trade out. They are playing games. And I don't see Arizona passing on Harrison. They lose him if they trade with Minnesota. And they already have 2 first round picks and 11 total. It's the Chargers that can blow it up for the Giants. But if they swap with the Giants they get either Odunze or Alt while Giants get McCarthy. If they swap with the Vikings they get an extra first round picks but lose Alt and Odunze. We shall see.

Again, either NE trades with Minnesota or the Giants or stays put. If they trade with Minnesota, Minny takes Maye. The Giants should be able to counter either Denver or Las Vegas with the #6 pick with the Chargers to get JJ. Or...JJ will be there at six and both Arizona and the Chargers will get their top players, Harrison and Alt, respectively. I don't think they can get Maye. JJ yes and certainly Penix.

I wouldn't give NE the world for Maye. They are teasing now. They will stick with Maye. My sights would be on JJ. Cardinals have 11 draft picks already. Not sure accumulating more this year is worth it to them if they lose Harrison. The Chargers are the wild card. The Giants have the higher pick to dangle.

Quote from: Philosophers on April 25, 2024, 01:01:18 PMGiven the responses of over 50 people to this survey and the lack of a super high preference out of the four available, it is clear there may be a lot of very unhappy folks.

I suspect the unhappiness will be less at WR as folks voting for a WR may not mind the other as much however it could be much different at QB with a clearer preference to Maye.
I don't have  clear preference between JJ and Maye, so I'll be happy with either. The only QB of the 6 always mentioned I won't be happy with is Nix. I'd be shocked if the Giants took Penix. And yes, I'll be unhappy if the Giants draft a WR at 6, no matter how good he might be. When a team is rebuilding, taking a WR is a luxury that it cannot afford, especially if there is a void at the most important position on the field.

Quote from: Gmo11 on April 25, 2024, 09:48:19 AMI think the Giants like him.  I think the Vikings know the Giants like him.  I think the Vikings are going to trade up to 4 or 5 and take him before the Giants can.  And then the Giants will pick their favorite of Rome/Nabers.
I would eliminate the Cardinals. They already have 11 picks this year. Accumulating Minnesota's two picks and more is overkill, and they miss out on the best player in the draft who is there for the taking and a need pick. Same with the Chargers. If it looks like the Chargers want to trade out, the Giants can offer them #6 where they can get their prize: Alt. Minnesota is weakened by where they pick. Of course I could be completely wrong. But that's my guess.

Quote from: TONKA56 on April 25, 2024, 08:38:39 AMBut at the same time if they make an aggressive move and draft a guy that turns out to be "just OK" or worse, it's going to light the dumpster on fire much more quickly. It's going to be interesting for sure.
They know the risk, but the reward will outweigh the risk for them, I think. If they've done their proper diligence which it seems they have.

Big Blue Huddle / What I think about tonight
April 25, 2024, 08:27:06 AM
I think Schoen and Daboll are desperate for a QB. They do not want their legacy tied to a QB they inherited who is limited in many ways. I do not think this is a smokescreen. To spend so much time evaluating these QBs would not make sense if they were not serious. That being said, the meaningless wins after they had no chance to make the playoffs put them in a tough position. To get the QB they want, they might have to sacrifice picks that the team does need. I think they would do that knowing the importance of finding that QB to lead the Giants in the future. But I also think to do that, to give up picks, they have to get the approval of the owner. That is where this gets tricky and we might see them draft a wide receiver or someone else who might be very very good, but will not alter the dynamic of the team. That is why tonight is very critical for the Giants going forward. We shall all see soon enough.

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 25, 2024, 06:25:40 AMI've been saying it for months now and although I really like Drake Maye, I'll be very happy if the Giants trade down with Minnesota and take Bo Nix.

He is the one player they haven't talked about and seemingly spent the least time with. But nothing would surprise me. Though I would much rather have Penix.

For what it's worth, McCarthy was on Rich Eisens podcast. He said he spent the most time with the Giants and extolled the staff, loving Daboll and Kafka.

"They are not about to hand the keys to the Giants fortunes to a rookie." That is the idea, but I wouldn't call what those keys hold a fortune. This is a rebuild. You start with the QB if you can get him. Receivers are useless without a QB. Team building begins with the QB, then the offensive and defensive lines, followed by linebackers and defensive backs, with receivers and running backs the last of the pieces.

Got to be a QB. And I trust that whatever QB they choose, they are confident enough to feel he can be a franchise QB. Much much easier to find a receiver than a QB.

I think he will be a good player in the NFL. He throws a beautiful ball, the best of the bunch. But I don't think he is a fit for the Giants. He needs to come to a team that has the parts ready, offensive line, receivers, etc. He would be perfect in Minnesota with Jefferson. And they would be silly to trade up and give up draft picks for one of the other QBs who need time to adjust to the NFL. He has played two years injury free so I don't think that is as big an issue as it's made out to be. And he actually can run; he's fast, but I think because of the injuries he was hesitant to run the past two years.

Falcons Penix makes little sense. An older rookie who won't play as long as Cousins is under contract and healthy. Don't see it when they have other needs where there are players that can help them compete immediately.

Quote from: spiderblue43 on April 24, 2024, 09:39:07 AMStill think Maye is going to the Pats. Schoen has to get an elite wr threat, which is both smart and sensible.

Maye means trading up..losing our #2 and next year's #1 at least. That's a big swing. And there no reason to believe that couldn't be bested by another team.
Don't know what the Pats think. I don't see Denver giving up so many picks to get to three. Minnesota really is ideal for Penix. He would thrive there. Maye needs time to learn and get better. He fits better with the Giants or Pat who will not win next year. The Vikings can compete next year but not if they take a QB who needs to grow. McCarthy as well. I think either McCarthy or Maye are good fits for both the Giants and Pats.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 23, 2024, 04:03:44 PMI love Odunze as a prospect, he's my Wr 1 but he would be utterly wasted here with the Qb room we have currently.
He certainly wouldn't thrive until the team finds a QB. But that could be said of all the receivers.
