Not intending to derail the OP any further, I just wanted to offer to Ed (and anyone else it may benefit) that you should check with your alarm system provider to see if they offer a cellular option. This will allow you to get rid of the landline and save a few bucks. On the other hand, Optimum may be giving you a 'bundle' discount for having multiple services. Something to look at.
