My preview notes for Giants-Seahawks

Giants Offense v. Seahawks Defense

29.3 PPG 4th worst, (Giants 3rd worst)

Passing Offense

-Giving up 329 passing YPG which is 31st in the NFL & only 1 INT

-They have guys coming back like Tariq Woolen which should help but what they struggle with is what the Giants like to do.
Their zones are very basic and can be taken advantage of

-Pass rush is solid but DJ has to be hang in there and scramble to throw because stuff is going to get open
-They don't blitz and only 5 sacks but get decent pressure
-Jarran Reed has been a beast for them 2 sacks, 4 hits, 5 pressures
-Mario Edwards & Uchenna Nwosu both getting pressure
-Need Andrew Thomas & Ben Bredeson to give DJ comfort

Passing Concepts
-Curl/deep curls to Darius Slayton especially on 3rd down blitzes
-Mesh is going to be a go to (Sanders/Thielen)
-leave short flats open w/ outside CB carrying vertical
-attack sideline from 3x1 sets either SEAM or sideline, busted coverage, get guys in conflict
(post wheel, flood, smash w/ 3rd option occupying curl/hook defender) -Michael Jackson #30 gave up a lot of busts so could be different w/ Woolen
-When they get soft, the checkdown is there with space

-Wagner slow in coverage so test him especially when you scramble

Playaction
-You've gotta be careful, going to get guys back on crossers and they will attack QB from the backside (Bosa sack)

Stafford/Goff/Dalton
20+:    10/18 56% 309 yards
10-19: 17/28 61% 256 yards
0-9:     46/63 73% 403 yards
Those deep numbers would be #1 completion % for deep passes and would be 13th in 2022 for target rate

Rushing Offense
-Does Saquon Barkley play?
-Their Rushing D is #6 in Yards & #3 in YPC at 2.9 YPC
(3 immobile QB's)
-Jarran Reed has been a beast and Wagner/Brooks have been able to run free
-They are all playing their responsibilities perfectly and disclipined
-Held Lions to 3.5 YPC

Giants Defense v. Seahawks Offense

Averaging 29 PPG, 4th in the NFL

Passing Defense
Geno Smith has real command of the offense and the pocket, completing 69% of his passes while being able to take advantage of all parts of the field & only 1 INT
-He's been very good in the pocket avoiding sacks but production isn't great although he has the wow plays
-Most throwaways in the NFL but only 5 sacks in 3 games
-has been pressured good amount and OL has been banged up (Cross/Forsythe)

Geno has a lot of trust in DK/Locket but mostly DK
-DK has 15/234/1 and has no problem going to him v. man coverage tight window throws, likes to hit him v. the blitz
-Whoever gets that matchup has to be good in the catch space

-no problem throwing on the run in tight spaces
-Lockett is his guy in plays where he has time to hang/RZ (13/103/2)
-JSN not getting much run, only 57 yards

-This is another game we need Leo/Dex to dominate like they did last year
-Leo had 1 sack, 4 hits & a pressure + 4 run stops
-Dex doubled a lot but had a great win rate

-Running playaction 1/3 of the time
Geno 15/15 219 yards 3/0 on 10-20 yard throws and a good chunk of that is on playaction
-Run a good amount of 12P & both Parkinson/Fant have 9 catches
-climbs the pocket off PA looking for the holes
-Parkinson is good athlete and runs through tackles (glares at McKinney)

Rushing Defense

-Middle of the pack rushing, 16th total, 17th in YPC

They are a zone run offense and that is great news for the Giants
-Giants much better v. zone, last years Seahawks team an example

-Held Walker to 2.8 YPC & had a 16 yard TD he bounced (2.05 YPC)
Kenneth Walker 47/204/4 on 4.3 YPC
-This guy is a dancer, maybe the most in the NFL, always looking for HR
-Just play fast and have gap integrity because he'll work to get you out of them
-Gives up TFL's to Pinnock types come off the edge because he sits in backfield

Charbonnet averaging 4.6 YPC, hes a brusier who runs through tackles and gets upfield

-Giants DL should win up front and LB's will be free to make play

It's a long season & there are three wildcard spots, but tonight feels very must-win-esque for the #Giants w/ MIA & BUF on the way and tiebreaker v. SEA on the line. At the very least, it's Week 4 & time to show they can put it all together for four quarters at home.  Are they the same team capable of winning a playoff game by scoring 31 like 2022? If so, how long until we see it?
My keys to the game:
- Dexter Lawrence DOMINANCE. The matchup is great regardless for Dex - especially if SEA center is playing through injury
- Kayvon & Azeez make splash plays (sacks, strip sacks, QB hits). SEA is likely down BOTH starting OTs. No excuses.
- Okereke or Simmons get their hands in a pass lane for a tipped INT or bait and jump a route for an INT. Geno Smith can be fooled.
- Whether it's Breida or Brightwell, the Giants must go under center in this game. Going shotgun heavy against SF killed any chance of explosive pass plays. Most of the explosives they generated v ARI came off play action, under center, selling the run but calling for pass.
- Overall: The defense has to win this game, IMO. But the offense needs to keep it within reach all game to leverage the crowd and stay multiple. SEA pass rush is below average, but the fastest way for them to have a breakout game is by getting one-dimensional.
