Quote from: kartanoman on April 15, 2024, 03:00:32 PMNice!

Did they put turf in Ronnie Barnes' office as well? (In jest, of course.)

Seriously, until the Giants and Jets and NJSEA generate a solution for permanent grass, I think the next best thing the Giants could do, within their span of control, is to go this route. Parcells did it after the 1983 season by hiring Johnny Parker and he transformed the careers of often-injured players; Phil Simms was at the top of that list.

I look forward to the players' comments.

Peace!

I think that a quality OL and a decent running game had alot to do with Simms avoiding injuries as he got older.  It didn't hurt that Parcells turned him away from being a gunslinger into a game manager.  In his early years, behind a terrible OL, Simms would stand in the pocket waiting for weak WRs to get open on deep patterns, a recipe for injuries

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 11, 2024, 11:16:39 AMThe end result requires teamwork, but I think there is enough individual performance by linemen than they can be evaluated individually
I used to work out at the same gym Bart Oates worked out in. He was very approachable and I once asked him if a fan watching television could tell who on the OL screwed up.  He told me that unless one knew what the individual responsibilities were, it was impossible to tell who screwed up.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 10, 2024, 01:03:22 PMBob,

I believe that Waldman was speaking of Jayden Daniels rather than Daniel Jones.

As for DJ, I think the problem was he was sloppy in his professions early in his career, leading to too many INTs.  So Garrett and Judge drilled it in DJ's head to only throw the ball when he was absolutely sure. Now Daboll has been trying to ease back that terrible coaching (in my opinion) without going too far the other way that DJ goes back to too many INTs.

As Mara said, the Giants did everything possible to screw that young man up.
I get a kick out of Mara sentence that's the last sentence in your post.  I believe 100% that Garrett was hired at Mara's "request" and close to that number that Judge was hired in the same way.

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 10, 2024, 08:42:36 AMIf his hypothesis comes to fruition, it's going to be a very costly move and a gutsy one at that. I would guess that it would cost them their second and third this year and next year's first round picks. In that case it could wind up being a GM/Coach killer, if it fails or takes too long for him to develop. I can still recall the angry fans after the Eli trade.

I think they sit at six and take who falls to them, or trade back. Looks to me like the top four will be gone by then.
Im not going to argue your point that there alot of angry fans at the Eli trade.  But, there were plenty of fans who thought that the trade was a steal for the Giants, that he was well worth the cost.  I dont know if Maye compares to college Eli.  But it the but if the braintrust believes that, let's figure how how to do it

I'm very hopeful for a Rangers win vs the Islanders.  But, on my experience, when a  good team is the more desperate team against another good team less desperate, the more desperate team wins.  The Islanders are a good team and have alot more on the line and are more desperate

i don't know how to attach the podcast.  The latest Bill Simmons podcast has a very good conversation about the current status and future of the Knicks.  It's the 2nd subject (right after the conversation about the Diggs trade).

The Athletic is reporting that Randle is going to have surgery.   No word on OG.  While I agree that OG's return is a bigger deal, it would have been nice to see Randle play.  I dont see the Knicks winning many playoff games without OG.

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 03, 2024, 11:54:42 AMSome of those players have hit their peak and or will have dropped off a bit. Kupp, Diggs, Aiyuk, Allen...

Hyatt and Robinson (injured) both now have a full season even though their playing time was limited.

This is their pivotal season. Wait and see.
It's the pivotal season if they have a QB who can get them the ball. That aside, my sense is that our trio doesn't compare to any of these groups and it's one of the reasons I want 1 of the 3 WRs in the draft if we don't get a QB that the brain trust believes in.

This is the lying season.  Maybe it's the silly season also

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on March 28, 2024, 06:57:42 PMThe more I think about it, the more I'm concerned about Randle. This injury has been a black hole.

My concern isn't so much that he won't come back this year. I'm pretty sure he will. My concern is more that he'll come back and not be the player he was before the injury, earlier this year. I worry about him being disruptive to the flow of this team by trying to do too much when he physically can't.

I hope they don't bring him back unless they're 100% confident he has no lingering effects from this injury. A dislocated shoulder is no joke. That's not something you just "tough out" if it's on your shooting arm, which I think it is. Randle is a guy who forces shots, handles the ball more than he should, and generally takes chances. When he's on, he's dominant. But when he's not, he can really hurt the team.

I just hope they manage this situation well. To me, OG is the more important player and the one they need most. They need a guy who can D up on the dominant wings in the east, like Jason Tatum and Giannis. That's OG. Not Randle. The Knicks have enough offense without Randle. Plus OG can odd some offense when needed too.
100% agree

When Mara says he was hoping to re-sign Barkley, does that mean the team was trying including Schoen?  Or, was Mara speaking like one of us,  a fan?  I wish he would stop talking about personnel

Didn't see the whole game but from what I did see, the Flyers capitalized more on bad defense than bad goaltending.

Rangers win a game I don't think they deserved to win, and I didn't expect to win the way the game was going, but they beat the Flyers 6-5 in overtime on Fox's goal 36 seconds into the over.  To add some icing on the cake, both the Panthers and the Hurricanes lost.

I heard Chris Canty on a podcast this morning say that Penix is QB4 on his list.

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 22, 2024, 10:38:20 AMGettleman left the team after the 2021 season, and according to draft position, he left the 5th worst team in the league.  Fast forward to the present day, and the Giants are the 6th worst team in the league.  That was with the benefit of an extra 1st rounder (and 3rd rounder) received in the trade with the Bears Gettleman's last season.
And what type of CAP situation fid Gettleman leave Schoen?
