Quote from: Uncle Mickey on April 28, 2024, 11:52:27 AMMitch would have been somewhere between QB5 to QB7 of this draft

Not that I agree about Mitch, but what you are trying to say brings up a valid point. When you are drafting a QB and you are giving up resources to get him. You should be comparing him to the top 10 of QB's that are playing, not to other QB's in the same draft class. Because, the guy you want needs to be a top 10 franchise guy in your eyes, or you PASS.

Quote from: Brooklyn Dave on April 27, 2024, 10:29:26 PMInstead of drafting Tracy in the 5th round do you think the Giants should have drafted Rattler, Platt or Travis instead ? Wouldn't that have more sense? Actually I am not sure if the Jets had drafted Travis in the 4th round

Why? Did they think any of them were better than what they already have. I don't think so.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 27, 2024, 08:13:49 PMIt's all subjective obviously. Anyone can call a draft outstanding the day after it ends but that can prove totally untrue down the road, and vice-versa. Given how the Giants have drafted for the past decade, I don't think I would hand them an "outstanding" grade the day after the draft under almost any circumstances. They are going to need to prove it to me with these guys panning out on the field before I start trusting them to that degree. There have just been too many drafts in recent years that have woefully disappointed.

I guess if they had found a way to get a trade done to get Drake Maye, and I didn't think it was so absurd that I was opposed to it on that basis, I might have given them an "outstanding" provided I didn't hate any of the other picks. I happen to be very high on Maye's ceiling and would have been willing to take the gamble on him if it were possible. Apart from that I don't think I would have considered it.

Thanks for your explanation. I think grading the draft is subjective and kinda silly. If the FO thinks they addressed some of their needs, then they did good. And, I think they feel they did good.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 27, 2024, 04:55:59 PMI went with average.

We are a way below average team that has generally had way below average drafts, so average is good for us right now. I'll need to see it to believe it for me to think this draft was better than average. I have plenty of confidence that Nabers will be a very good player, but any of us could have made that pick. The real measure will be all the other picks.

Just a question here. What would have had to happen to make it outstanding?

I for one, elect to support my team whoever the QB is, whoever the coach is and whoever the owner is.

I think what was interesting was him saying that they have 15 guys as first round material.  That tells me he would not want to move back beyond 15 because he would feel that he was getting second round goods.

Did he wear #22?

Quote from: Ed Vette on April 20, 2024, 12:51:39 PMIf Maye, JJ or Daniels somehow fall to six and Schoen doesn't draft a QB, right or wrong, he's getting crucified by the fan base and most of the media.

I would hope whoever the Broncos want to be there at 6 to make that deal, is. And, we are smart enough to pull the trigger.

Bronco fans would riot.

Quote from: kingm56 on April 11, 2024, 06:32:18 AMThat phenomenon happens about once every quarter decade.  In the last 30 years, we've had Brady and Purdy, and the latter failed to beat the NFL's best QB, despite being surrounded by copious talent.  In fact, if you review the last 35 years of SB winners, you'll note the overwhelming majority were won by teams with 1st round QBs.  The notable exceptions are the aforementioned Brady, R. Wilson and Nick Foles.  In the modern NFL, it's all about the QB; Az starting price reflects that reality.

Sure, the most SB were won by teams that had 1st round QB's.  They were probably won by teams that had 1st round receivers.  I wont debate that the QB position is important, but it takes way more than that to win a SB.  I think you'll find that teams that win the SB are pretty solid in other areas besides QB.  Oh, and there are some 1st round QB's that aren't that good but win SB only because of the other parts of the team were great (Trent Dilfer).

I'd be shocked. I don't believe the FO has the appetite for taking a LT in the first round and trying to convert him to a RT again.

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 10, 2024, 09:22:06 PMSo if they see a guy that they think is the guy, then yes absolutely. Neal, Wandale, Banks, and JMS are the last 2 1st and 2 2nd round picks, would you not trade an elite Qb for those 4 guys? Absolutely you would.

.............or you could have given up nothing and gotten a Purdy.

Quote from: katkavage on April 10, 2024, 08:09:52 PM33 years ago. A different era. And, like I said earlier there were exceptions when another player besides QB were so dominant. The Giants had one of those players on that team. LT. But the reality is, it's a QB-centric league now. More so than ever before.

I'm just not feeling that the QB's in this draft are worth giving up picks for. I've said it before, none of them may prove to be better than what you already have. To invest draft capital to take one, the FO needs be in "love" with the guy.
