wow.  this is about as thorough and informative as it could be.  congrats and thanks.  well done.

I'd be surprised to see both of the [apparently] two highest rated OT's still to be there at 23.  One OT maybe, but given the dearth of good OT FA prospects this year, unlikely, IMO.  Njoku maybe, but even he's a long shot to be there at 23.  However, with the many solid DE and CB prospects, I could see us going that way and saving OL and TE for rds 2-4.

this year's mocks are all over the place and I see no way to predict who'll be there for us at #23.   however, it does seem that some [and an increasing number] of the potential draftees are already situational players  [read alabama's ER named williams] making it even harder to judge where they will fit in an nfl style O or esp. on the D.  As for the O linemen, that often means a ? as to whether he's G or T, pass or run blocker or both.   For the TE, blocker, receiver, both??  And for the RB's, for whom I'd not want to use a first round pick - except once in a decade when a zeke elliott comes along if I had the chance - ???'s about can he pass block, catch the ball, etc.  All these IMO result from the changes in the college game, incl. the spread O and the rise of situational players.  These college rosters are 95 strong so it's easy to see how college coaches can move to the situational format [rotate and rest with your situational guys].  So if we take a D. Dawkins, it may be because he is the BPA left to us at 23 , when most of the "sure things" are gone and some of the remaining players are situational guys [like williams] or simply untried at some of the nfl skills we want to see.

is a TE from Miss showing any rise in stock from his combine?  I forgot the name.

Ditto, Jaime and Bob.  Look at it this way...who is easier to replace late camp to mid season, a servicable DE or a CB who won't be giving up TD's every game?  We can get the OL, TE and DE in rds 2-4, as well as having FA to nab 1-2 of those guys.  I don't know of an affordable CB of the ability say of Eli Apple we can land [or if we do we cap out of FA then and there].  Excellent analysis.

Giants History / Re: Frank Gifford has died

some of you may had heard me tell this Frank Gifford story:

when Frank was grand marshal of the Winchester VA Apple Blossom Festival and Parade, back in the late 1970's, I completed a pass to him.  I was in a friend's front yard and he was in a moving convertible.  The ball he was tossing to kids near his convertible bounced into the fenced yard as he passed [he was seated on the back with his feet on the backseat].  By the time someone got the ball the car was well down the street.  Phyllis said give the ball to Rick.  So...

At about 40 yards, Frank was looking back and everyone along the street was watching.  I dropped the pass over his shoulder right into Frank's hands [thousand to one shot????].     The crowd cheered.  Phyllis was there...she can affirm this tale.  RIP Frank.  And nice catch, #16.

but I'll bet the Giants do not simply kick Tom and Eli to the side of the road as the broncos [I mean elway] are doing to fox and possibly peyton.

I predict TC and Eli have at least one more SB win in them.

Vette:  if we were to lose 4 in a row, then play the niners and cows, we'd lose 6.  Thus, beating the cows and eagles in the first matchups becomes crucial.  BTW, I see us beating the lions.  So, we should win vs lions skins x2, cows x2, eagles once, rams, cards, texans and falcons.  I could see losses just to the seahags, niners, colts, once to the eagles, and one more for 11-5.  BUT if they play like the ones did vs colts, it's an 8-8 year at best.

Ceri:  I don't read any of these players except Mack as a three down player or maybe even a starter for the Giants.  That would push them clearly to second round or after status IMO.  Even Barr as I read it.  Care to comment or clarify.  I could be reading it wrong.

impressive yahoo-sports write-up on Oregon State's Brandin Cooks.  Where do you see him, Ceri?  Others?
here's the piece:

"Brandin Cooks is not the No. 1 prospect in the 2014 NFL Draft. He

really interesting piece.  obviously all this preceded the famous 1958 OT colts-Giants game.  And, wow, was paul Brown a genius or what.

Barnsider was a good date place back in the day [60's-70's.  We always debated how to spell and pronounce it.  There were many variations; all but one of them wrong.

do we have George's address/ directions yet?  if so, where is it please?

Phyllis and I hope to get to practice on Aug 3&4 weather permitting, as well as going to the Sunday bbq.  we also need to allow time for visits with my Mom down the road in Hudson during the fri-sat period so I can't commit to anything other than the bbq on sunday.
