Quote from: MightyGiants on Today at 11:09:23 AMAndrew,

Schoen said this in the middle of a strategy meeting.  HBO recorded hundreds of hours of tape, and there was no way Joe Schoen knew that particular comment would make the show.  If it was a shot at his boss, it was a poorly timed and executed shot, in my opinion.
It was my understanding the Giants had final veto power over any content aired in Hard Knocks. Am I wrong? Regardless, Schoen said a lot of things on that show that shouldn't have been aired.

Let's remember that Ranaan was banned from covering the Jets by the organization. He also has an ongoing feud with Giants insider Paul Dottino.

I believe Daboll's version of the story.

Big Blue Huddle / Is it worth to keep jones next year

Quote from: MrGap92 on September 19, 2024, 12:14:32 PMWe already are in QB hell
FYI - the "QB hell" terminology was a Dave Gettleman reference to teams that enter the Draft seemingly every year looking for a competent starting QB.

Granted - the Giants did go into this Draft looking for certain QBs but I believe that was because Jones is injury prone.

Quote from: Painter on September 19, 2024, 03:20:37 PMWhy would they even think of keeping Jones on the Roster next season at a cost of $41.6 million plus what they will have to pay for a high 1st Round QB in the Draft given that the Giants are likely to have its 5th losing season in his 6 years?

Personally, I see little chance that DJ is still with the Giants at QB next year. It seems to me that at some point in the season, Schoen/Daboll/Mara will have to decide when to sit him so as to avoid the possibility of an injury triggering the need to pay him most of next years $41+ millions. As it now stands, if they part ways while avoiding such disaster, they will only have to manage $22 million in Dead Cap space going forward.

As for messing around with the current top-pick failure of Bryce Young, why would I expect him to be so much better on the Giants, not to mention the cost involved? While next year's Draft will be no different from those earlier or later, with the odds of success rarely more than even if and when you have "Lady Luck" smiling on you, they still gotta roll 'em.

AND LET ME MAKE CLEAR- Whomever we may choose to blame for it all: Gettleman, Mara's meddling/nepo-cronyism, whether or not to add Schoen & Daboll, it should not include Daniel Jones. He is the one person among them who is not responsible for any such decisions made and thus is totally and absolutely blameless in the matter. He has made and can be expected to continue to make every honest effort to succeed and to earn every nickel of the money paid.

Cheers!

Good points Larry. I think if the Giants want to keep DJ at the end of the year, he and his Agent fully understand they will be asked to renegotiate.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on September 19, 2024, 03:22:16 PMWell, according to his coaches, he is excellent at reading defenses. I'm no coach and I have no inside information, but I believe his QB coaches know whether or not DJ understands and reads defenses
Daboll has stated Jones is the smartest QB he has ever had in the QB room. Jones did have an academic scholarship to Princeton. I think a lot of the "can't read defenses" rhetoric came from a Dan Orlovsky clip of one game last year . If you look at DJ on the sidelines in between downs, he almost always has his iPad out trying to figure out what the defenses are doing.

As to the claim that DJ only locks onto one receiver - what do you expect? He has never had an OL that gives him time to read the field and go through his progressions.

Outside of Daniels, the rookie QB class this year has been poor. Throw in the Young failure and we have a bitter reminder that finding a franchise QB in the Draft is very difficult. There are many teams in "QB hell" and the Giants would enter that group. Cautionary tale to those who believe that the Draft is the answer.

I think we forget that Jones was a rookie success. Throwing 24 TD passes in 12 games and rising to 5th in QBR. Jones was on his way to breaking NFL rookie records until his offense disintegrated around him.

Mara (and Mighty Giants) were right - "We did all we could to ruin him". Injuries, poor weapons, the constant battering from abysmal offensive lines and a variety of coaching changes hindered his development.

I think we should let the year play out. Jones still gives us the best option to win. Let's see where this team is at the end of the season. That would help the Giants make the most informed decision regarding Jones.

Quote from: kingm56 on September 17, 2024, 08:47:42 PMThe Giants have faced two of the NFLs worst defenses in the first two weeks.  Let's see if this notion continues over the next 2 weeks against Cleveland and Dal. The oline is indeed better, as they have better players.  Still, the Right side is well below average and I anticipate they'll have issues against better competition.

I am encouraged by JMS; we thought he needed a year to get bigger/stronger.  I hope he continues to improve and anchor the middle of the OL. And Thomas is just a stud.  I hate we're wasting his prime.  If JMS stabilizes, the Giants are a RT away from a good OL.  Assuming they can find a RT and get their QB next year, we could seriously be on the road to recovery.
The Vikings shut down the 49ers and actually have one of the best defenses in the league.

Hope you're right about JMS. He was ranked dead last in PFF among starting Centers last year - especially in the pass blocking grades. It will be interesting to see if he's improved this year once he returns.

Barely 5-10 and 185 pounds. Too small for my liking and I'm guessing the Giants feel the same way.

Quote from: H-Town G-Fan on September 15, 2024, 07:30:44 PMYou're far afield from an actual point. The defense would have been worse if not for pre-snap penalties? What about the horrible holding on Dru Phillips? Are you accounting for the effects of that? Or does it only work one way? Does the NFL determine a win by who punts less or who scores more points?

NFL teams should be able to score more than 21 points. Feel free to disagree.
The Giants had the ball for 7 possessions and only 22 minutes. The running game was effective. Washington also
played a two deep zone limiting the Giants to short/intermediate passes. There was also no kicker.

Given those facts, scoring only 21 points is not unusual.

If you haven't watched the Nick Falato review, it's an excellent synopsis. Looks like Bowen's scheme is heavily dependent on linebacker play.

So it was Jones' fault they lost? Got it

Quote from: Trench on September 15, 2024, 08:28:20 PMIf jones converts on the 2 point conversions and makes better passes on the deep bomb plays we also win. SXDX, respectfully, this performance isn't the one to resurrect the Jones is great fan club
Is this shot really necessary? I resent the "fan club" reference.

Washington dominated time of possession leaving only 22.18 for the Giants. They also
played a two deep zone limiting the Giants to short and intermediate passes. Jones was in command of the offense and was not the reason they lost. If you expected gaudy Fantasy Football stats, Jones was not your guy.

The formula is pretty simple. Double Dex and it's easy pickings. The Skins had 215 yards rushing.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Daboll needs to be fired right now

In his post game presser - Daboll said that Gano kicked a 49 yarder in warmups. Gano foolishly chased the KR on the first play and  pulled his hamstring
