Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants Player Development ...

I agree that the team has not done a good job of getting the most out of their players, but I would disagree with some of those names in terms of being considered "marginal backups" at any point in time.

Linval Joseph played his best ball after he left the Giants.
Kareem McKenzie was a starter for the Giants day 1 and a good one.
Bradshaw didn't get many opportunities early.  Never saw him as marginal, but he did develop into a bigger role

I also remember something Tom Coughlin said when certain players were complaining about the fans booing.

Coughlin said "Then don't give them a chance to boo."

If you play well the boos will disappear, it's that simple.

Everyone here has a different opinion regarding DJ.

And in the end it doesn't matter what anyone thinks, the only thing that matters is how he and the Giants play during the regular season.

If he plays well and the Giants start winning again, the negative and critical comments will disappear, and he will remain the starting QB.

If he plays poorly, and the team continues to lose, then he will be released and a new QB will be brought in.

We will just have to see how this transpires.

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 12, 2024, 07:51:32 AMThere are legitimate criticisms and concerns about Daniel Jones, and then there is an unhealthy obsession with seeking ways to put the man down.   The remarkable part is from everything we have seen of the man, he doesn't deserve the hate.  The man is among the hardest working (hardest luck) players in the NFL.  Yet there is this obsession with crapping all over him

No one should be surprised at this. It happens on this board all the time. Topics completely unrelated to DJ turn into a DJ dumping ground with regularity.

I agree there are legit questions and concerns. And I also agree that a large portion of fans and media seem to place too much focus on DJ when the reality is that there are plenty of other issues facing the Giants. And why drafting DJ's replacement was not going to be the panacea some thought it would be.

I hope so too.

"Players like Bennett should have a price tag on their head because their world centers on do whatever you have to for the win."

The bolded is what the Cup playoffs are all about. It's a war of wills, combined with the necessary talent level. That's what makes the playoffs so compelling. Bennet took it to a limit. Ok, in return he needs to be chopped down like an old oak. The McAvoy hit in the opening minute was nice, but since the league sat on their pucks the Bruins should have found a way within the game framework to take him out. It's one thing to do what he did to a 3rd or 4th liner, but Marchand. The heart of the Bruins, and no nuclear reply. Really from the Bruins. Where's Terry O'Reilly when you need him. The only reply is a wipeout. Not doing so gives Florida a huge emotional edge. Hence the Bruins are down 3-1. I've been watching Bobrovski throuhout the two rounds. He's been really good, but is starting to show a crack here and there. Besides who would you rather face should the Rangers advance him or Swayman.
Look for the Canes to accidentally on purpose take a run or two at Igor. The Rangers tonight have to play their best game of the playoffs so far.

Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 10:15:43 AMFlott is 6'0.5. He came out of College at 165 lbs. He's still a lightweight at 175. If Daboll likes him outside, it portends the type of Coverage the new DC will employ. He is not a Press Corner. Unfortunately, he has not improved over the years and is not only a liability in Run Support, he gets manhandled by bigger Receivers. Although he has decent back-peddle and fluid hips, he's not fast and can get faked out by jukes. He has short arms, small hands, a weak Span, and a lousy Vertical. His size was good for the Slot but his weak Run Support was an issue and I remember sitting with Bobby Skinner at Camp discussing the frustration with Flott. Of course, anyone was better than Darnay Holmes. Put him on the outside and he's going to get burned over the top and fall down and play dead at second-level Run Support. Saquon Barkley is licking his chops just thinking about it. Sorry Ric @Jolly Blue Giant, but you and I are going to have to disagree on this one. He's getting bumped by Phillips who will have the same issues but at least he's more physical although a bad tackler. If an aging Adoree was a 7, Flott is a 5.

I wouldn't argue that you're wrong (I do hope so, but that's hope).  I am somewhat comforted by the idea that Flott will need to beat out Hawkins and McCloud to win that job.

The Giants will be celebrating their 100th season this year.

Among the activations:

— Naming top 100 players
— 100th season day at Yankee Stadium
— "The Duke" documentary
— 10 $100K grants being presented by The Giants Foundation

The logo below will be used throughout the season. Crazy details.

Zeroes are shaped like Giants Stadium. Shield is shaped like their first home, the Polo Grounds. The eight laces symbolize eight NFL championships. The figure inspired by the classic Giant skyline logo.

That would be a sad state of affairs if they blew a #7 pick on a sub-par OT, mediocre OG. How did the scouts get this one wrong? There was talk of him being the top tackle in the class.  Is it possible he is strictly a LT?  Did his skills not transfer to the NFL? Was the OL coaching that bad on this team? Or is he not as good as everyone made him out to be?
