Unanimously elected to the Baseball HOF.    2nd year in a row no player made it.

BBH Baseball Board / Re: OK Yankee fans What do ya think

Thanks Mike.    I'm glad someone is looking.

What do you think of Robby leaving.   I'ts funny but I find myself not all that upset.   I would have loved for the Yankees to keep him but not for that kind of money.   He was/is a dam good player.  But I couldn't help but remember many times when the Yankees needed a timely hit and he just wouldn't come through.  And I would rather see some of the money they saved by having him leave go to bolster the pitching.    Who plays 2nd base now??

Are you happy with the McCann and Ellsbury signings???     What are your thoughts.    Time to stoke up the hot stove league.

I hate to keep stealing stuff from BBI but dam they have some nice pics over there.   I had to post this one on the Tittle thread.   Jack Stroud #66   Giff and Lou Cordileone #74.   I added it to the Tittle thread cause Cordileone was who the Giants traded to the Niners to get YA.   And I hadn't seen a pic of big Lou in years:

Mike:    That was a good catch on your part.    I never noticed the 11-29-59  and the 1959 new york giants photos header.    The photo on BBI was labeled as from Oct 16, 1960 that was a 24-24 tie with the Skins.  And thanks for the Lou info.   I never knew that.

Webster29, please in no way take this as an upstaging for you truly do a great job in providing quality stuff, but if that is the game from 1959 our #74 was Art Hauser....a journeyman lineman.

Big Lou came along in 1960 and then was traded in 1961.

I can not tell from the pic, but did you know Lou actually did some acting.  He appeared in an episode of Branded, starring Chuck Connors, which was on NBC around 1966-1967. Scroll down the left side............

Giants History / A great Y A Tittle article from BBI
November 06, 2013, 04:04:42 AM
I saw this and had to copy it for here.   It is a great YA article with some fabulous pics.    As I did with the article on the 1938 Giants I will leave it up here for a while then move it to the history board.

Enjoy:

Two things....

1. a bump to keep this MOST worthy thread alive in hopes some of our younger fans may actually expose themselves to it.

2.  To the Moderators.....If this could please be moved to the History section at the appropriate time I would appreciate it.  There's plenty of room, please excuse the dust    Hey, I live in hope.  There is a lot of great knowledge in there AND it is a great place to visit and expand your NYG heritage.

Mike:  I think that is a great idea.    I will be glad to move it.    You or I can bump it for a couple of days if you would like then I will move it to the History Board.

Ah Jimmy.   Yes you would have loved Chris.     He was the Giant historian so to say over on the BBWC.   He passed away a few years ago way to early.   In his 40's if memory serves.    He at times could be a bit of a homer but you could say that about any of us.  He was all Giants and he loved their history.    Mention some obscure Giant from years gone by and he would produce a picture of the guy.    He could be quite impatient with posters that would say things from left field.  He was quick to jump on them.     But bring up anything about Giants history and he would be in the middle of the conversation.  I'd bet he slept in Giants pj's.

Some real good info on Mel Hein too.    I would believe most folks here (except Jimv) never got to see Hein play.   If you want to know how good he really was read this article.   Some nice pics too.

Toomer:   Technically correct but it is still the post season.    Try to tell Pirate fans anything different.

Congrats to the Pirates.   They finally made it to the post season after all these years.   Still have a shot at the Central Div title but it will be tough.   2 games out with 4 left and a tough 3 game set in Cinci.   But no matter what happens it has been a great season for them.    And to think, I thought Russel Martin was nuts signing with them.   Shows what I know.

It doesn't look like the Yankees are going to the post season this year.   No I have not given up on them but to me their problem is to many teams to leap frog over.    It is going to take a great finish by them and 3 other teams to somewhat crash and I don't see that happening.

So I have jumped on the Pirates bandwagon.   They are playing some great baseball right now.   They took a double header from StL on Tue 2-1 and 6-2 to push their record to 64-42   .604  best in baseball right now and opened up a 1 1/2 game lead on the Cards.   And yes I know in years past they have started good only to crash and burn after July 4.   But they are hanging tough this year.   I was able to see them play the Reds at PNC a few weeks ago.   Great game that they won in extra innings.   I think it would be great for baseball if they won it all this year.

I guess I have somewhat gotten over Maz's blast.        NO   not really.   That still hurts and it was 53 years ago.
