Big Blue Huddle / Re: Who do you have?

Quote from: Jclayton92 on April 30, 2024, 09:03:10 PMWho Starts? As the roster stands today before we have any camp cuts or additional signings there are several spots up for grabs. I'm going to list the open positions as I see them and tell you who I project to start, could be a dark horse candidate, or maybe the answer is not on the roster currently.

Who do you have currently?

1. CB2- I actually have Flott starting here over McCloud, Robinson, Hawkins, and Phillips.

2. Slot- Currently I have Phillips as my starter in the slot with Belton as the heavy nickel and Mills as the 4th corner in dime packages.

3. Safety- I have Pinnock locked into the FS spot and Nubin penciled in as the SS with Belton being the 3rd while backing up Nubin and Owens backing up Pinnock. I think Mills floats which is why I don't have him listed here.

4. MLB2- Isaiah Simmons, I think our DC finally places Simmons in a starting role with Muassu technically being behind him and McFadden behind Bobby OK

5. LDE- I have Dex and RNR starting, I have Riley taking snaps at LDE until we sign someone to compete with Davidson and Phillips rotating with the 3. I expect 2 signings here.

6. WR lineup- To start the season I don't have Nabers in the starting lineup. I have Slayton X, Wandale slot, Hyatt Z, and McKenzie as the top 4. Daboll has brought every Wr he's drafted in slow and made them earn time. I think that us your top 4 with Nabers taking reps at every position slowly getting sprinkled in.

RB2- We have Singletary, he's the defacto but number 2 is wide open. One of the backs is going to show out in preseason and be that guy and my guess is Miller with Tracy as number 3. I think Gray got in the dog house last season and until he gets out I have to choose someone else.

TE- I am acting like Waller isn't coming back so I am taking Theo Johnson over Bellinger. My reasoning for that is them drafting Bellinger and then after his solid rookie year the trade for Waller, then the next year sign 2 TEs and draft another one. Obviously they don't like what they got with Bellinger and so if Theo shows a spark I look for him to get the nod over Bellinger.

Who do you have? Any darkhorses? Any players you see taking the next step?

For reference I didn't touch the Oline as I see it as Thomas, Runyan, JMS, Elemeunor, Neal until I see otherwise so there's not much to discuss.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants Running game

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 28, 2024, 09:24:16 PMBeing totally objective, it is a pretty weak-looking RB room at the moment. Gray showed little to nothing last year (albeit didn't have tons of opportunity but it's not like he was some highly touted prospect), Singletary is ok but nothing special, and Tracy is not only an unproven rookie but he's only played the position for a year. If Gray becomes more of a factor and Tracy is able to add something as a rookie, it might be ok, but I definitely would not call it a strength right now.

Miami's 3rd RB may be better than Giants 1st stringer.  I know their 2nd is.

Maybe the Giants felt differently than their fanbase about the need for a QB.  Maybe as simple as that.

Maybe think at best Maye or JJ could be 12th best QB in 2024 but they may get that with DJ.

I see one stud in Nabers.

I hope Nubin either starts at a 75th percentile level.

Phillips is 50-50 for me as to being a better than average starter.

Rest of draft picks are under 50-50 chance of being in 50th percentile or better at their position.

FA signings plus new OL coach improve OL to be average (hoping).

Defense is improved by talent acquisition and Bowen's schemes.

DJ posts top 15 performance.

Injuries derail us like they do 99% of the seasons over past decade.  We continue to lack good player depth to offset it.

Dabs runs another soft preseason and we are ill-prepared for upcoming season again.

We win 5 maybe 6 games.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on April 27, 2024, 04:55:59 PMI went with average.

We are a way below average team that has generally had way below average drafts, so average is good for us right now. I'll need to see it to believe it for me to think this draft was better than average. I have plenty of confidence that Nabers will be a very good player, but any of us could have made that pick. The real measure will be all the other picks.

Spot on Dave.

Two of them were "meh" last season.  Adding a third does not change them into Hill, Waddle.... Until they actually perform at a high level.

Has to be a real hidden gem to get excited about.  So far only high RAS and low mileage on legs and kickoff ability seem positive.
#8
Jesus how about the Miami Dolphins drafting Jalen Wright out of Tennessee at RB.  Their RBs are Mostert, Achane and Wright and all can run under 4.4x 40 along with Hill and Waddle at WRs, also sub 4.4 guys as well.  They have a track team.
#9
His RAS score alone is worth taking him in addition to the likely loss of Waller.  Great pick.

Still can use a RB.

If you value explosiveness and don't mind overstocking a position, why not take Troy Franklin out of Oregon as another WR.  Explosive piece.  If he's the best out there and if the Eagles were loaded up at WR, they'd still take him.  Can't have enough BPA pieces either.

Leonard Taylor going from five star recruit to not drafted yet has my head spinning as he seems like an interesting mid-round choicd plus fills a big need at DT.

Giants need more explosiveness at RB as they simply don't have it.  I'd love to see them pick up Wright to fill that need.

I don't see any TE worth drafting as none stand out as a hidden gem to me.  All are plodders.  Would they look to draft Johnny Wilson from Florida State and move him to a role as a pass catching TE?  That would seem interesting to me.  He's 6'6"  and moves well for that size.  He's only been catching a ball for a short while so some development needed but I like his foundation.

Quote from: MightyGiants on April 27, 2024, 09:04:11 AMdrafted a safety and CB on day two?  It's not like they restocked in free agency

I read that the Giants do not want to play Mills at safety but to have him as a more versatile piece at CB.  That left only Pinnock and Belton so the need was obvious for safety.  Phillips drafted for primarily slot but also outside on occasion is as much about his physicality as it is about his versatility.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on April 27, 2024, 12:18:17 AMCade Stover had the highest pass block rating of any TE in college...basically an extra offensive lineman. But we picked up two "block only" type TEs in FA, so probably won't happen. I think they like Theo, but your guess is as good as mine. Personally, if there is a RB they really like, they probably ought to get him because he won't be there in round 5...most likely

I want more of an Isaiah Likely.

Jaylen Wright would be someone I'd like.

Quote from: Jolly Blue Giant on April 27, 2024, 12:05:39 AMI think they might be looking at TEs. They brought in Theo Johnson (the only TE) for a visit. They also brought in RB Trey Benson (the only RB), but he's gone. DT's have been picked clean except for Gabe Hall. We're on the clock tomorrow with the 6th pick, I expect it could be TE Theo Johnson or TE Cade Stover, DT3 Gabe Hall, or maybe one of the RBs Jaylen Wright, Braelen Allen, or Ray Davis  :-??

Yeah that's a good point about DTs being picked clean.  Hope it's a very athletic TE so not Cade Stover.

So do folks here like the 2nd and 3rd round picks?
