I think the team is headed in the right direction - but I think next year's schedule is tough and the Giants might have a worse record and another very high pick.

To answer the OP - not necessarily. Who's to say these QBs would be good here?

Trading for Eli looked bad at first when SD got Shawne Merriman as part of the deal. After a couple of years, Merriman's just a footnote.

@Jolly Blue Giant

Looking at the PFF grades, I think there could be some validity to suggestions that he wasn't a good fit for Wink's system

Boogie came into the league at 6' 3" and 275 pounds, which doesn't scream 3-tech (too light)

I also looked at his NFL.com scouting report.   One thing that was sort of interesting was this:

"He's a big dude, but he's also carrying some extra weight and will need to lean down a little bit or he's going to end up eating himself inside." -- Personnel director for NFC team

You can read the rest of his write-up here

Quote from: T200 on Today at 10:00:49 AMI think that's the difference between being a franchise QB and not.
I wouldn't use those two examples either. Arizona was pitiful and as it turned out, picked a few spots before the Giants. He played well in the win against Minnesota. At the time I had no doubt the Giants would win that game; they were the better team. Minnesota's defense was abysmal. No mention of the stinker the following week?

I am a diehard NY Giants fan and I root for the team including DJ as much as anyone including defending him on multiple occasions and hoping he plays well.

The problem though is that we've been in this rinse and repeat cycle for half a decade now and nothing has changed.

Have we really made much progress?
Does this team even have an identity?

I think most teams go as far as their Qb takes them, and the team forms around the Qb as they are typically the key to their success. At this point I have seen nothing  in 5 years to say that Jones can make others around him better, if anything players play down to his level as opposed to blossoming. Slayton, Wandale, and Hyatt would be extremely exciting pieces to another team that are floundering on this team.

Under ideal or perfect circumstances Jones can be a top 15 Qb but I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect situation in the NFL. In today's game you either have a GUY or you don't and currently based on previous seasons we don't have that guy on the roster.

Would it make my NY Giants Fandom easier if Jones was the guy, absolutely, would I love for him to throw 4500 yards 35 tds and 10 ints and blow us away, you bet. I just don't think that is realistic currently and that's why I think we should move forward to find a guy that can do those things for us.

We traded this year's 7th rd pick for Boogie last season, but he barely saw the field  :-??

He was a 2nd round pick of the Bills in '21 (I think) and was highly rated. I've read that Wink didn't like (or want) him. I have no idea if that is true or not, but I know there was ongoing animosity between Wink and Daboll and I "think" that Boogie was a guy Daboll wanted and it rubbed Wink the wrong way...who knows

I've also read that he's a perfect 3-tech more so than a LB/ER. As closely as I follow the Giants, I have almost no knowledge of this guy. He was highly rated in 2021 as one of the top ERs in the class. I don't know what went wrong in Buffalo that they would give up on him and take a 7th for him...or if that was just a handshake over beers with Daboll...or if he just didn't fit in with the Bill's where they were overloaded. So hopefully, some of you will fill me in. I would love to find out that he's the real deal and politics caused him to sit the bench last year

1.  I think Hawkins is CB2.  He showed out last year all camp and then when games began he got overwhelmed. I think, with a year under his belt (because he came from such a small ODU program), he gets that spot.  It's between he and Flott, IMO.

2. Agree that Phillips has inside track.  I will add, though, that if Flott loses out on CB2 then he could factor here as well.

3. Agree with Pinnock and Nubin being starters w/ Belton playing as third "starter"

4. McFadden on 1st and 2nd downs, Simmons on passing downs as MLB2

5. LDE - not on roster yet.  Davidson, Riley and Phillips are backups.  If 1 of them is starter then I think the Giants are in trouble.  Yeah, its only run downs (I think passing downs it's 2 DL and Thibs, Burns, Simmons and Okereke (w/ Ojulari sprinkled in somewhere - maybe Dex and one of the aforementioned have hands on ground as 2nd "DL") but Davidson, Riley, Phillips are definition of depth pieces, IMO.

6. Nabors starts day 1.  Wandale in slot, Hyatt and Slayton fight for 3rd spot. McKenzie backs up slot and last receiver spot comes down to Hodgins, Ford-Wheaton or Boykin (special teams gives him shot). UDFAs on practice squad.

7. I agree it goes Singletary, Miller and Tracy with Gray as 4th.  Tough to predict between Gray and Miller as we have not seen what Turbo can do but I think Gray is limited so Turbo has upper hand for RB2.

8. I think Waller comes back so he is TE1 w/ Bellinger and Theo as 2A and 2B

Quote from: sxdxca38 on Today at 11:45:54 AMHopefully DJ has a bounce back year and this injury thing is simply a moot point.

IF   DJ was being completely honest about his second neck injury just being a routine stinger (and implying it had nothing to do with his prior )neck injury

IF the Giants can properly protect DJ, there is a reasonable chance he can avoid another major injury
