I immediately thought of Evan Engram.

The bar is really low when we look for nuggets(some improvement) among the ruins.

This is what happens when you are a terrible team. I don't blame Dabol for Gano getting hurt. His getting hurt on the first play of the game is what historically happens to cellar dweller teams. Then you have two defensive holding calls on stops giving Wash. first downs. The first call was ok, the second was an egregious mistake by the ref. This team is not anywhere near good enough to overcome their own mistakes, let alone ref blown calls. Nabors may not drop another pass like that in his career, but this is what happens with bad teams. When Nabors dropped the pass, I thought of Mark Moseley. IYKYK.

Quote from: DaveBrown74 on September 11, 2024, 08:19:33 PMFine, but all 32 fan bases can claim the above. And yet few if any at all have to endure the degree of ineptitude we've been forced to for the past decade.

Absolutely. However I only care about the Giants, and them winning on the field(s). In the past 10 years Mara has screwed up in fantastic fashion yet the team's value has more than tripled. Can you name another business where producing a vastly inferior product has led to financial success? Where is the incentive to win games with a triple fold increase in value?

Quote from: madbadger on September 11, 2024, 03:29:50 PMI hope one day Schoen or Daboll writes a tell all. Publicly Schoen has all the decision making power but Mara's lament that he will never get over Barkley being an Eagle on hard knocks tells us he exerts influence by making his position known in an unpleasant way.

When we consider that Schoen went from thinking that Jones was unworthy of having his option picked you to giving him a really nice deal after a mediocre season, you have to wonder if Mara is meddling behind the scenes. Perhaps Daboll is refusing to lift a finger and make a change as a subtle f.u. to Mara. You caused this mess and I'm gonna let you sit in your soiled diaper until it hurts.

Dab's is way too smart of an offensive mind to stick with Jones at this point. He sees all the warts in his game and still won't pull the trigger. I suspect he's waiting for John to push for it. Jones and Barkley were both of Mara's man crushes.

Excellent post. No wonder from me, Mara wanted him signed, the 2 yr out is the compromise. However Mara did give Schoen the blessing to get a QB in the draft(Maye) if possible. If it's true what you say about Dabol giving a subtle fu to Mara, then recall McAdoo begging the FO to trade up for Mahomes. Pulling Eli was Mac's fu. Think about how different the current, and historical effect on the NFL would be had Mahomes been a Giant.

There is one answer. He is not a good QB.

We moan, bitch, throw up(literally) our hands in disgust to what end? Success can be measured in a number of ways. In 2014 the value of the Giants was about $2.1 Billion, today 10 years later it's $7.3 Billion. A more than threefold increase during a time when the owners/mgmt. have put out a vastly inferior product. Nice gig if you are an investor, not so nice for us fans whose currency is measured in wins and losses. Must be quite a party in the exec offices sometime after the Super Bowl when the financials are passed out, and the suits are smoking Cubans going harumph, harumph, harumph(Mara "I didn't get a harumph out of you"). $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ mitigates the losses on the field for the owners, not for us. Mara can throw all the chairs he wants, it's a show. While it won't change anything I would like Mara to hear in a meeting/interview type of session to hear what I wrote.

We've heard this before from opponents that they knew what was coming. Dabol at the beginning of his tenure stated that we will work to maximize what the individual players do best. Well, guess what? Jones doesn't do alot of things well. So therefore there is a limit on the offense, so of course the opposing defense can see what's coming. Jones' limitations limits what Dabol can do. That's why Dabol/Schoen deserve their own QB, not this reprise of the Duke disaster.

It's very simple Dabol/Schoen inherited a pile at QB. Dabol is limited in what he can do with this offense because he has a QB who plays at 33rpm in a 78rpm league. Dabol/Schoen deserve to have THEIR own QB to work with not the Gettlemen folly of QB hell. Mara lives in a totally different world than us fans. If revenue/income were tied to winning then things would be different. Do any of you know another business where putting out a vastly inferior product still brings in $$$$$$$$? The value of the Giants in 2014 was a little over $2Billion, today it's $7.3Billion. It's a business, the owners are all businessmen/women. Where's the incentive?

I continue to completely and fundamentally disagree with your assessments, as they relate to DJ; he's not being held back because he adheres to coaching.  If anything, our coaches are limited by his inability to routinely complete passes beyond 7-yards, or make off-schedule plays.  I suspect Kafka and Daboll would prefer to call the plays that made them successful in KC and BUF, but they can't.   DJ biggest problem has always been, and continues to be, mental acuity.  He lacks the processing speed required to be a plus NFL passer.   After 5+ seasons, this isn't going to improve...

This! Dabol(and Schoen) deserve to have their own QB running the show. Not this Gettleman error, exacerbated by Mara and his "we've done everything to screw him up" gifting him the contract, which was tempered by Schoen getting the two year out as a compromise. I believe that's how it went down. In the meantime Mara still has the cash register ringing while the fans are left wringing.
