Big Blue Huddle / Re: Best QB ever for every team

Flacco over Lamar Jackson
Fouts over Rivers.

Arguments could be made for Aikman and Bradshaw.

Joe Burrow could enter the conversation if he can stay healthy.

Thomas needs to stay healthy. That's his biggest thing after a slow start to his career.

Plenty of people were pointing out issues with those wins at the time. Don't try and rewrite history.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: NGT - OMG Go To SoFi Stadium

I've been to AT&T Stadium (Jerry World) multiple times. Light years ahead of Metlife. What a joke. Two NFL teams and that's the best they could manage?

Garbage schedule in Daboll's first year followed by a ridiculous strength of schedule boost in year two. Saquon and that defense could only carry the team so far.

Mcadoo benefited from a similar boom his first year before cratering in year two. OBJ and that defense could only carry that team so far.

If memory serves, I think they played the AFC South both years.

Regardless, I'm hoping/pulling for Dabs to get the team turned around in year three. The albatross (Jones) might derail that scenario.

Safety: Landon Collins and Antrel Rolle
CB: DRC and Webster.

Honorable mention: Aaron Ross. Every time he joined the team, the team went to the Super Bowl (when he was a rookie and when Jacksonville released him).  :P

Yeah. I remember that press conference where Gettleman was mocking analytics. Shurmur was sitting there, half asleep, but even he gave Gettleman a look of 'seriously bro?' or something of the ilk.

Quote from: Bob In PA on June 16, 2024, 11:48:13 AMDepends what the emphasis is.

Who lasted the longest in the NFL?
Which man's best year was the overall best of all of them?
Best man-coverage guy?
Best zone coverage guy?
Best at getting interceptions?
Best at not giving up TD?
Best at not giving up first downs?

A really tough question to answer, so I'll pick Champ Bailey, because he may have been the "composite" best player when combining all of the factors enumerated above.

Bob

Champ was a damn good CB in Washington and Denver!

Quote from: Doc16LT56 on June 15, 2024, 12:43:37 PMIn his prime I think Revis was the best of this group. But his peak was only about 5-6 seasons. Some of these guys played a high level for well over a decade. I'd probably draft Rod Woodson from this group.

I think they left out Deion Sanders because he's the best corner of all-time, no question about it. He was different. The other guys are all debatable imo.

Part of me does agree yet I struggle with how the rules (or lack thereof)impact CB play. Back in the day, you could mug WRs which greatly assisted in defensive play. In the modern era? Rule changes increased the difficulty of the position as the NFL encouraged more offensive spectacles.

On a separate note: watching Rod Woodson transition from being a great corner to an equally great safety? Truly impressive.

Neon Deion would've been mine as well.

For this exercise though? Revis Island was no joke.

I'd hold onto it so the the team doesn't need to restructure contracts midseason.

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Giants bad luck

Deandre Baker isn't even in the NFL. It was just a bad pick. Through and through. He's currently playing in the UFL after getting waived by the Chiefs (who seem to like NYG castoffs). Noted as being "lazy" in his preparation at Georgia (and cruised by on pure skill).

JPP/Chad Jones - yeah, Ed pointed out the issues with "bad luck" and the like. They were reckless/careless.

Evan Engram magically became healthy after leaving the Giants.

Owa Odighizuwa - he came out of college of with hip issues. That's part of the reason he dropped.

Tunsil/Collins - there's no telling if the Giants would've drafted either. I know that Coughlin LOVED Flowers.

All in all - the Giants did get a rough break with injuries in terms of severity (see Cruz, Terrell Thomas). However, the NFL is a violent and vicious game. Injuries are an unfortunate result.

I'm surprised that Brees never won it in New Orleans.

You were one of those who had written DJ's obituary before, only to discover you were premature.  Why do you think you are correct this time?

Unfortunately, Jones doesn't get to play the AFC South (the Big 12 of the NFL) every year.

The AFC South and NFC North were pretty atrocious that year if I'm remembering correctly. Minnesota had some freakish streak of one-score differential wins that year.

Ironically, my wife saw Zeke this morning when she was receiving PT.
