Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 02:52:19 PMHe puts up the yards but he's averaged 23 TD's a season, had three years with the Rams and Lions where he had avg. 20 TD's a season and his career Rating and QBR are just ok. He's one of the better middle of the pack QB's but this contract is ridiculous. He's the second highest-paid QB in the league.

He got traded to the Detroit Lions and threw over 30 TDs. That just is not supposed to happen. NO ONE goes to the Detroit freakin Lions to do anything but, retire early and blame coaching, front office, the defense etc.

In his first year he was playing for 10 mil a year. He has been like the 16th highest paid QB for years now despite being top 10 in many categories. You don't cheap out on a guy like that after he got you to where you wanted to be after you were paying him peanuts on a 0-10-1 team. The fact is Goff is sort of mystery given his inconsistent play and dubious circumstances. He has shown a very high ceiling at times.

Quote from: Ed Vette on Today at 10:47:43 AMDaniel Jones would thrive there too. He will win games and choke in the playoffs. His story has been rit and read.

Just stop with this xxxxxxxx already. Daniel Jones on the Lions would look like Daniel Jones. A low skilled passer who cannot make decisions in the pocket. The day Daniel Jones is ever considered a pro bowl player in either college or the Pros will be the first time. The day Daniel Jones is considered a top 10 QB in Passing yards per game; passing TDs; Passes completed like Goff has in several seasons will be the first time; both college and pros.

Russ Wilson has little to do with Goff. He is much younger and has already had success on another team. The whole idea of building around Stafford is really puzzling to me. They decided to build around Goff by trading Stafford for boat load of picks. The Lions were not a good team instantly but, eventually they are hitting their stride after developing talent and lots of it they got in the trade.

THe book is not closed on Goff because he got traded and had a bad year on the Rams. The Rams were in win now mode with a QB in a slump or at worst and in a bad contract. That is neither here nor there.

The Lions have little choice but to pay Goff. They are a playoff team. The Giants are not and had every reason to move on from Jones.

Can you prove Wellington had nothing to do with the draft in 2004?

It's been some years now but I remember distinctly reading in a newspaper quoting Ernie that Wellington didn't want to take a QB. Yes I am aware of the trade but Ernie would have been just as happy w drafting Big Ben.

Also it's hard to take seriously a claim of credit to a GM with a coach , qb, and several excellent players already in place with a sb win. The guy hasn't had a job in 20 years

Quote from: MightyGiants on May 03, 2024, 12:09:48 PMHow did John and his father manage to go to 5 Super Bowls and bring home four trophies?

They had Ernie A. as GM. And he had to drag Wellington kicking and screaming to draft a QB with the top3 pick in the 2004 draft.

I think Mara is very conservative with ideas like moving on from QBs. The elder Mara, Wellington was like that too with Kerry Collins. Although I think of recent QBs retaining Eli ; Kurt Warner; Kerry Collins vs. retaining Daniel jones made a whole lot more sense. All 3 prior were significantly better QBs with Kerry Collins still playing the pre pass friendly ero of the NFL mostly.

No. His last game with Ravens I was like "he looks like a slow old man out there."

I have to laugh at all the Ohatani and this and that. And the "why do you think he is going to Japan all the time watch him because he likes the Sushi' talk.

So let that be a lesson; just because a GM goes to watch a ton of games of a very expensive free agent; doesn't mean it is a lock or even a possibility to sign him.

I guess they have Acuna Jr brother? The dude looks like he is still in little league.

What does Aaron Rodgers have to with anything? He is 40 years old ; a first ballot hall of famer. I doubt he would have done much with that o line anyway. Jets also have a very dubious coaching situation. Worst case scenario you can say he stayed a year longer than he should have even if he stinks up the place next season.

And what choice did the Jets really have anyway?

The Russ Wilson situation is an entirely different matter. Can you really make the case he's a hall of fame any more ? I don't think you can.

I think that was part of the problem; him emending plays is a coach killer with well designed plays.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 29, 2024, 12:15:08 PMIt's funny because that's what Wilson has done his entire career?  Did Payton think he could turn him into Brees and he a pocket passer?

No from reading about this on the internet it sounds like he took the job because he liked management and ownership. He never liked Wilson. I guesshe figured he could do what he did eventually and bench him / get rid of him.

Incidentally, wasn't Wilson going to the Broncos was him becoming more of a pocket passer anyway? "Let Russ cook".

Big Blue Huddle / R Wilson vs. S Payton
March 29, 2024, 12:00:22 PM
Why did Payton not like Wilson? I thought he was benched for his poor play and seeing what they had in  a lost season. It had more to do with his not waiving an injury clause? He posted decent numbers.. I have to say while his stats are good -- and admittedly I only see him during nationally TV games -- he always looks awful to me.

"...Was it difficult to release Wilson on account of the cap hit?"

"No" Payton replied.

Quote from: kingm56 on March 28, 2024, 04:28:13 AMAntennas?  What are you talking about?

I was talking about this ....
QuoteEven if you're in the market, I also believe paying for all the streaming services is still cheaper than paying for cable, which currently has an average cost of $149.99/mo (with ESPN).

I don't pay anywhere close to that. Most of us are not watching the Giants from Colorado ok? And even if they were I bet most Giants fans were watching back from like the 80's when they were the game of the week Sundays ; and on prime time tv a lot of the time anyway.

Your other numbers sound a little weird to me. You can get Direct TV for 69.99/mo. NFL ticket runs you 299 either way.

Quote from: kingm56 on March 27, 2024, 10:14:50 AMFantastic points; however, I have to disagree.  Your notion is only true for those fortunate enough to live within the market.  For those of us outside the market, paying for YouTube, Prime and Peacock represents half the price of a DirectTV subscriptions.  Even if you're in the market, I also believe paying for all the streaming services is still cheaper than paying for cable, which currently has an average cost of $149.99/mo (with ESPN).

I use Superbox; so, my cost is null....

I'd like to see you post some numbers to back up this claim. I bet it is not true. I got rid of HULU live since it was the same cost as a verizon fios basic cable package -- which I need for the wifi anyway--and which 1 of 5 of my elective channels was TNT. So I actually get to watch NBA basketball or whatever else.

Also even if you are in network --- it is nearly impossible to watch an NFL game with an over the air antenna without signal problems. I have tried it now in 2 different apt. in 2 different boroughs and while mostly it goes well it always seems like the signal is just horrible a lot of the time. Many games I have driven to my parents house  during half time, to continue watching,  in frustration of constantly having to adjust the TV.

I'll say I was wrong on jones when he can throw 30 TDs in a season. That's what we said when the last season started and, that should still be the standard. That would indicate jones has really picked up his passing game and it was everyone else. That seems nearly impossible however.

I think stats like qbr and rating favor conservative; running QB s who are overly conservative and don't throw interceptions. They also have a low yards; low yards per attempt; and low passing TDs. And just as you would expect their teams lose a lot of games
