Title: The reason fast-food restaurants make more money with kiosks
Post by: Jolly Blue Giant on April 02, 2024, 10:26:53 AM
Kiosks at fast-food restaurants increase profits by a large amount according to statistics. But why?

1) Since you're not ordering in-line at the counter, you have more time to browse and the screen pummels you with suggestions, like upsizing this or that, adding guacamole, or some other custom addition that cost a little more. That rarely happens with a cashier at the counter because of the line and the need to "hurry up"

2) Restaurants save money by not having to pay extra employees to take orders and run the cash register, counting out change, etc

3) If you use an app, the system already knows who you are, and they have a dossier on you and customize the screen to get you to add stuff that you have in the past, luring you to buy something you didn't intend to add when you stopped in or ordered on an app while sitting in your car

4) Since they know who you are, they add "special deals", customized to you in order to get you to add more stuff like desert or custom drink and get "$ off today only"

5) It has been proven that people order more food when ordering from a kiosk or phone app

6) Not needing a ton of currency exchanges at the cash register requires less oversight, security measures, re-counting, paperwork, and reduces employee theft, etc...and of course, all transactions at the kiosks get pinpoint accuracy and instant payment to the restaurant's account

Think about that, the next time you're scratching your head thinking what to eat as you stand in front of a kiosk. Kiosks are fast-food "inside secret" for improving profit

I had to research this to learn what Ric was talking about:

Digital kiosks are large touchscreens where diners can order and pay in-restaurant instead of ordering from a staff member at a counter.

Here are a couple of good articles on the topic
