I can't disagree with the B+ grade. I was a big fan of the Burns move (getting a 25 yr old of that caliber without giving up a first rounder when Carolina was previously offered two first rounders was great, I thought), and I did not really have an issue with any of their picks. I also liked that they didn't capitulate and pay up for Barkley, and I was fine with not bringing back Adoree or McKinney. Once they decided to make the move for Burns, they didn't really have the money for any of these players, and I would much rather have Burns than not. Obviously they could have spread Jones' exorbitant 2024 cap hit out over future years by committing to him for more than just this season, but they clearly did not want to do that, and I think that was absolutely the correct stance to take (which doesn't automatically mean he won't be here in 2025). So I'm good with this grade.

Good morning.

You're all on the same page and I'll throw my chips in there with you.

The only thing on my mind is how Florida is going to come out and play. Are they going to turn up their goon factor, or are they going to try and mow the Rangers down early with a kamikaze attack? I don't see them playing the same type of hockey they played at the Garden, so, what's coming at Igor and what do Trouba, Miller, Foxy and Schneider have to do to contain it long enough in order to counterattack?

Will this be the day the fists come flying in a free-for-all?

I feel that Florida is going to bring something different today but I can't put my finger on it. For our boys, be alert on the ice for the cheap goon shots because I feel that's part of what's coming.

Toughness begins in about three and a half hour's time.

Peace!

Big Blue Huddle / Re: Is Daboll a good teacher?

Interesting discussion.

Many different ways to look at this. Look at his coaching history, for starters:

Brian Daboll - Wikipedia

With the pedigree he has, it would be impossible to state he doesn't teach while he coaches. Now, if you are talking teacher, in terms of an academic approach (e.g. lesson plans, terminal and enabling learning objectives, deciding to use cognitive vs. kinesthetic methodogies to reinforce critical objectives), then I really don't know the answer. Tom Coughlin may have been one of the few to take it to that extreme, possibly Fassel to a lesser extent.

If I were to take an educated guess, Daboll should be able to teach through his position coaches since they are the ones who are required to be lockstep with him. You really cannot judge him based on a few edited NFL Films clips for the public to watch. There really is no substitute to going to the games and observing the position coaches working with the players, and then watching Daboll interact with each group. When I went to the Arizona game last year, I was a bit shocked to see Coach Daboll standing by himself quite a bit as the Cards built up their 0-20 halftime lead. He didn't even interact much with Danny Dimes. I just found that to be most odd. The second half, however, he seemed a bit more revved up but let the position coaches do their jobs.

I would recommend putting this topic in the parking lot until training camp and let's get some volunteers here to sign up and observe Daboll during camp. With actual observation data, from multiple sources from this board, I think you'll be able to synthesize a far more honest and objective response to the question versus guessing or assuming.

Peace!

Tommy DeVito looked a lot closer to QB2 than QB3 today.

Again, it's an OTA in May.

But I wouldn't be running DeVito off this team so quickly. #NYGiants

I thought Tommy DeVito was far & away the best QB at practice today. #Giants

NEW YORK GIANTS: QB DANIEL JONES

There might not be a more polarizing player in the league than Jones and his four-year, $160 million contract. Suffering a neck injury and an ACL tear before Week 9 last year didn't help his case.

Jones' 63.0 overall grade in 2023 was the lowest in his NFL tenure, and he was very hot or cold throughout the season. His games at Arizona and Miami were outstanding, but he struggled mightily against Las Vegas, Dallas and Seattle. Nonetheless, Jones was still a strong runner all around, putting forth a second straight year with a running grade of 82.2 or better.

The former No. 6 overall might not be a world-beater this year, but expect more consistency than he exhibited a year ago. If nothing else, his 4.1% turnover-worthy play rate will probably look more like it did from 2020-22. Adding Malik Nabers to the fray is a reason to project upward trends.

I cant wait to watch Nabers play.  Injust hope it's with real blocking and throwing and timely playcalling.

NEW YORK GIANTS: B+

New York's best move this offseason was trading for Brian Burns, forming a legit defensive line trio with Kayvon Thibodeaux and Dexter Lawrence.

They lost Xavier McKinney and Saquon Barkley but reunited head coach Brian Daboll with running back Devin Singletary to quell the sting of Barkley's departure. They also added a handful of offensive linemen in a much-needed overhaul.

I was a big fan of the Giants draft, as Malik Nabers, Tyler Nubin and Andru Phillips are impact players. They weren't able to change their quarterback situation, but that wasn't totally in their control.

I dont want Dans to be a teacher.  I want his coaches to be teachers.  I want Dabs to have great organizational skills, strategize brilliantly and lead in a way that the team follows him.

I think it's hard for fans to really know. Maybe those of us who have attended live camp sessions (I have not) and have managed to be within earshot of Daboll or at least observe his body language can have some idea, but the reality is it's difficult for any of us to really know other than what we hear others say, which is only reliable some of the time, as people (especially people who work for him or play for him) tend to only say complimentary things.
