Until last year I would have given Spags a pass as he had little to work with.  However I look at what happened to the Cowboys last year.  Prior to the start of the season it was thought the Cowboys would have the worst defense in the league due to a glaring lack of talent.  Monte Kiffin comes in and makes a respectable defense with what he had (he really didn't have a true pass rusher for instance).   Guys playing for him tended to have banner or career years.  In my mind that's what marks a great DC.

Spags on the other hand hasn't managed to coax any of the defensive players to have a career year.  Not DRC, not Prince, not Kennard, certainly not Moore and so on.  So I would say Spags is at best an average DC for what it's worth.   Historically Spags seems to have had more failures than successes both as a DC and as a head coach so if Coughlin does go I don't see a need to keep Spags.

Didn't hurt that he had Strahan, Osi and Tuck at his disposal! Talent can hide a lot of deficiencies much like OBJ is doing with the offense.

I didn't much care for the Spag (re)hire but this defense is lacking play makers at every level. All those high end assets (like first/second round picks) going into offense and subpar drafting in rounds 3-7 have hurt this team.

Outside of DRC and Hankins, there's not a whole lot to like on that defense.*

*I'm not including Collins in this assessment. It's not entirely fair to judge rookies during their rookie season on a depleted squad.

How much of this is OBJ? The Giants have a generational talent masking a lot of offensive deficiencies.

(I voted 'mixed review'  btw)

Living in Houston gave me a greater appreciation for guys like Biggio and Bagwell. Although certain questions linger around Bagwell, it's deplorable that Biggio had to wait a year to get into the HoF.

Probably rolled to the right because of his throwing arm and lack of overall athleticism. Generally rolling away from the better pass rusher which limited the damage that the left side of the could inflict on the offense.

Derp. Need to read more carefully. :surrender:

I do like Preston Smith.

I've been a fan of Malcolm Brown for a while now but I'm finding myself in a similar quandary: will he get the requisite snaps to warrant the #9 overall pick? This raises another issue as I seem to remember some DTs having an issue with transitioning to the NFL.

While Hankins is the big man in the middle, what do the Giants have at the other DT slot? Jenkins is an older vet that needs his snaps limited to ensure health. Bromley didn't inspire much confidence last year and  failed to overtake/outperform an awful Kuhn, Kuhn shouldn't see meaningful snaps and...Patterson (if he's even on the roster still).

Regardless, I expect the Giants to grab a DT sometime in the first 3-4 rounds.  Probably in round 2-4 given Reese's prior history when it comes to drafting DT. While important, I don't think he views it at a true "premium" pick.

Solid work dude. Pretty much agree with Collins/Peat as they have been the guys I've been following at the tackle position. Haven't seen enough to really comment on some of the second 'tier' guys.

1)  What part of the Country do you live in? Originally from Ringwood, NJ but I've been in Houston since '95.

2)  How long have you been a Giants fan? Since I was a little kid. My dad wasn't big into football but my uncles? They were fanatics.

3)  What do you do for a living? Attorney. I'm only licensed in Texas so I really can't help you when you toss an Eagles fan outta the upper deck. ;)

4) Anything else you would like to mention about yourself? I'm no stranger to posting on message boards of this sort.

Be careful of what you wish for ;)

Welcome. Feel free to jump in whenever you're ready.
