The 49ers were looking great. That fumble was a killer
Thanks for starting this, Rich
@MightyGiants !
A promising drive ends with a McCaffrey fumble and turnover. The Chiefs are licking their chops early!
Purdy looks good on the first drive, though.
Let's see how the Chiefs respond.
Peace!
49ers defense came up big
Good work, 49ers' defense, getting them 2nd and long and forcing three and out.
No harm, no foul on the fumble.
Round two coming up!
Trent Williams!!! Get in the game!!!
The fouls are killing the niners
That's why having a Deebo is worth his weight in gold.
But they're playing conservative. Excellent decision, in retrospect. That is top echelon special teams.
Peace!
SF looks a step faster on D so far. If Chase Young decides to live up to his potential tonight that will be huge.
Ferocious 49ers' defense!
But I love KC's special teams, both the punter and the coverage player. Elite play!
Then Messi to Marino on the commercial ... unbelievable!
Purdy is accurate with the ball
Damn, Purdy's come to play today! He's got KC's secondary on its heels!
Mccaffrey just got a taste of what Barkley has to deal with constantly
49ers look like the stronger team so fae
Quote from: sooners56 on February 11, 2024, 07:14:52 PMMccaffrey just got a taste of what Barkley has to deal with constantly
On that play, definitely. But Purdy has a wall in front of him, something Danny rarely, if ever, has seen.
Peace!
I swear both teams have so many players we wanted to draft. Leo Chenal.
Good teams find these players in mid to late rounds.

The Chiefs are a second half team, but so, too, are the 49ers. If the game is close at the half, expect an intense final 30.
Wow! Going for the long FG there, after playing conservative earlier, when it would have been a shorter kick, I believe, was interesting.
But he made it, and that's all that matters! Vegas is mid desert country (2000 ft above sea level) so the ball may travel a tad further than at sea level.
3-0 SF
That throw by Mahomes was unreal
Omg, this is crazy!!!
A hell of a pass by Mahomes ruined by a fumble and turnover. Ugh!
Well, the turnover situation is reconciled, but man, I feel for the Chiefs who finally broke free of that 49ers' D.
I still can't get a feel on the momentum of the game, yet.
Kelce that was disrespectful
Good stop by KC after that horse collar foul.
Loving this game! Kelce needs to wind his neck in.
Wow, what a horrible way for a super bowl appearance to end.
SF isn't leaving much open in the passing game.
Greenlaw pulling a Bill Granatica on the sideline. Fortunately, the 49ers covered his butt; however, he may be in serious shape. It would be a huge loss to them, especially as the game goes on.
Mahomes needs to realise the game he's in.
Situational.....don't hurt your D.
That Achilles injury running out onto the field is a first
What the hell was that???
Philli special on acid!
Mahomes 2-minute drill master.
Wow! Mahomes got squashed like a WWF wrestler! Nice hold by the 49ers!
10-3 49ers at the half, Chiefs get the ball to start the second half. This is building up to be an intense second half. Nice seeing the defenses coming to play today.
Peace!
I hope Kelce is shut out for the rest of the game after he disrespected a legendary coach like that
Come on, Spags!!!
The 49ers DL is so good and so deep. What do they have 5 impact players on DL?
Quote from: killarich on February 11, 2024, 08:13:42 PMI hope Kelce is shut out for the rest of the game after he disrespected a legendary coach like that
Yeah, and CBS is just dying to go to the Taylor Swift box for a reaction and, to date, it's been "nothing to see here."
Yes, let's hope it continues.

3-0 SF
Does it matter that the game is indoors?

Triggered!
Holy schmoly!!! Not the way to start the second half, Chiefs fans!!!
The 49ers' special teams is having almost as huge an impact on this game as their defense.
I thought Kelsey had the first, challenging rTher than calling the TO made more sense, same net outcome at worst
Is it just me or are the 49ers just screwing themselves, by not running with Mccaffery more?
Quote from: sooners56 on February 11, 2024, 09:04:45 PMIs it just me or are the 49ers just screwing themselves, by not running with Mccaffery more?
I am surprised they did not run the ball at all there.
I have a friend who is going scorched earth on his Facebook on Kelce for getting caught on camera getting into Reid's face. Wants him benched and says Reid is a wussy for letting him play. My friend was a Kelce/Swift hater before the game began. Does he have a point?
Deebo down.
SF was complaining about the field all week. And may have lost two key guys.
My big mouth about the 49ers' special teams.
Chiefs' TD.
Let's see if the 49ers can respond on offense. They have to take it to another level if they want to win this one.
You can't give the Champs a freebie like that.
What a game changer. Go Chiefs!
This game is toast. Can't see a comeback by SF. Shanahan has no second half answers.. McCaffery disappears.
Quote from: katkavage on February 11, 2024, 09:29:11 PMThis game is toast. Can't see a comeback by SF. Shanahan has no second half answers.. McCaffery disappears.
Can't appear if you're not given the ball.

Yeah, that's on the coach.
Need a stop here, Spags.
I can't believe Shanahan went for it on 4th.
Crazy ballsy going for it and risking not being able to at least tie the game
It worked out though
If KC can't get a stop, SF is gonna win it.
I love the wide range of emotions this game has produced. Credit to both teams, and especially both defenses and special teams. But this one is now Brock Purdy's game to win on 3rd down.
Spags with the blitz and it worked!
This game is going to OT.
Purdy looked every bit the 2nd year QB, but kicker looked like ice with that 53 harder... money indeed!
Let's see if the Champs can respond.
Man would I love to have Spags back for ANOTHER run
Will never happen
FG range. Does Mahomes go for the win here?
They possibly have 2 cracks at a TD
I'll answer my own question ... hell yeah, I would!
OT indeed!
These rules, I want the ball 2nd
Fitting these two teams will settle this one with "a new game" as the referee indicated, and the commentators remarked.
Hoping it will be no less dramatic than the game so far.
The players look spent.
McCaffrey showing why he's getting paid what he's getting paid.
Worth every penny to this team.
It's amazing how 49ers keep McCaffrey in the game after big plays and how they keep feeding him. Saquon would be out after the 1st big play he makes.
Giants should watch and learn!
Chiefs defense is completely gassed
The fact that Spags is still getting tons of effort out of them is amazing
Quote from: killarich on February 11, 2024, 10:31:33 PMChiefs defense is completely gassed

Yet they still manage to hold them. Great effort!
The 49ers needed a TD there. Went too conservative.
4th and 1!!!
Is this the game???
The game keeps on keeping on! But a misfortune on 1st down
Perfect setup for the win. Can they do it?
Mahomes would win a Superbowl with the Giants this year. The Panthers too.
Bye Bye Coach Flat Brim! Perfect ending.
Like I said. The 49ers went too conservative. In that moment you can't be afraid.
The dynasty is Mahomes.
Is Mahomes already on path to surpass Brady ??
Quote from: Messiah717 on February 11, 2024, 10:52:24 PMLike I said. The 49ers went too conservative. In that moment you can't be afraid.
Especially playing Mahomes. He will beat you if you give him any opportunity.
The Champs go back to back ... congratulations Chiefs on repeating! Well done!
The 49ers played one heck of a game and pushed the Champs to the brink. A great effort but they couldn't overcome a great Quarterback leading his team to the game winning TD. I wanted to see Purdy win it and he played well. But, when he needed to step up and make the big plays, he couldn't do it. He has a promising future with the 49ersand he'll continue to develop and get better. McCaffrey deserved to be the MVP but give this one to Mahomes.
With that, season 2023 comes to a merciful end.
It's been fun sharing it with you all tonight. Be well, be safe, until we meet again.
Peace!
Quote from: katkavage on February 11, 2024, 10:54:39 PMEspecially playing Mahomes. He will beat you if you give him any opportunity.
Yup, with Mahomes lurking you need to be thinking TD.
Both teams played well and neither gave up. Kudos to SF & KC for putting on a good show. =D> =D>
Tough game to watch for a while but the ending made it all worth it.
Shanahan should have went for the kill in OT. Instead, gave it back to Mahomes with a spent defense. Just dumb penalties all night..special team flubs..hence another Niner flame out.
What a lousy game by their OL in critical spots. They were fortunate to get to the Super Bowl and had a great chance.. KC did enough again in the clutch.
The blocked XP loomed large.
Great game overall - sluggish and error prone early, but a good and exciting game
Two things stuck out to me...Andy Reid not only used two tight end sets all night, but even used a three tight end set on occasion. It doesn't escape my attention that multiple tight end sets was part of the "magic" of Belichick's run. Maybe the Giants should take note
Secondly, I cringe as Trey Smith dominates on the offensive line. Every time I hear his name and the announcers talking about him as one of the best linemen ever, I want to cry...or kick something. I screamed myself horse during the 2021 draft for the Giants to grab him. Everyone knew he was the best offensive lineman in the draft, but had "medical" worries, so he fell to the 6th round ~X( Maybe teams have learned their lesson and jump all over Zak Zinter this year instead of letting him fall to the 6th round after his freak injury in his last regular season game
All in all, a good night of entertainment. I was shocked at how athletic Usher is. He put on a hell of a show at half time. And I've always been a big fan of Alicia Keys (such a sweet person), and that was one hell of a wild piano she was playing. I'd give the show a 10 out of 10
Congratulations to the Chiefs, they played another great 2nd half. Chiefs gave up a total of 22 points in the 2nd half of all 4 post season games. 12 of those points were last night and 3 in OT.
Missed PAT definitely changed the end of the game. Not sure how it unfolds if they hit other than we know there wouldn't have been OT.
McDuffie is an All-Pro and played like it last night. Deebo was basically a non-factor, as was Kittle.
Thought the 49ers lost some opportunity in the 2nd half when they started with 6 straight passes, and 8 plays of the first 9 being passes. The run game had been effective in the 1st half. Their first 3 drives in the 2nd half were all 3 and outs for a total of -2 yards. The first of those drives was the chance to put get KC on the ropes after the Mahomes INT. Certainly a muffed punt never helps in these games and that was definitely a huge turning point.
I think in the end, the game highlighted once again the importance of the QB. Mahomes looked very much like an early 1st round pick and Purdy, while he didn't look like Mr Irrelevant, certainly looked like someone with a lower ceiling.
It seemed to me the 49ers got to the Super Bowl because the Lions were too aggressive. Then the 49ers lost the Super Bowl because their defense got too conservative (giving up too much yardage to protect against a possible big play)
The next day, in retrospect, I said this all week, up to the SB, you have to keep Mahones off the field. The 49ers have the offensive player of the year, they told us at the beginning of the game, Mac should have at least 30 touches, except for OT, he came nowhere near that. I believe Shanahan lost this game before he even started it with the game plan to have Purdy throwing all the time. The Chiefs could be susceptible to the run, and the 49ers never gave it a chance. My game plan would be Mac right, Mac left and then throw him the ball as often as you can. Instead, they let Purdy determine the outcome and he couldn't get it into the end zone when it mattered most.
Like the Giants once did against a powerful Bills offense, they designed a game plan to take as much time off the clock as possible by running the ball. Sorry, IMVHO Mac could have had an OJ Anderson type of day had they followed a better game plan and just fed him the ball. Mahones can only be held in check for so long.
This loss goes on Shanahan's game plan.

I hate to break it to you but no one was playing piano on stage. The halftime show has been pre-recorded for years now. They say that Prince was the last one to play and sing live. The RHCP spilled the beans about how the SB wouldn't let them play their instruments so they unplugged them to make a point.

Feel like in any close football game there are ways the losing team could have (or maybe should have) won. Bottom line is they didn't make the plays they needed to win.

Wow, defense held Mahomes to 3 FGs and a TD in regulation.

Truth be told, the Chiefs have been a middle of the road scoring offense all season and also in the postseason.

Chiefs averaged a little over 21 per game in the regular season which was pretty much middle of the road. In the postseason 1st 3 games they averaged 23/game. Holding them to a TD less than the season and a little more in the postseason hardly seems a reason to fire a DC.

You're assuming the 49ers based their decision singularly on one game. I wouldn't make that assumption myself.

They were the 3rd ranked defense in terms of ppg, giving up under 18/game for the season. Would have thought if that wasn't good enough he would have been fired prior to the playoffs.
I am not assuming it's just for the Super Bowl but it sure seems like he is being scapegoated. The way GB and Detroit ran on them the 2 previous games probably figured into the calculus. I just can't help but think that emotional overreaction from the Super Bowl played a role in the decision.
Looking on from a long way away, this smells bad.
Is Shanahan the annointed golden child who needs a scapegoat for the third blown Superbowl in which he's been involved?

Three! He was mostly responsible for the Atlanta failing to run out the clock in the SB, allowing the Patriots to tie the game by continuing to have immobile Matt Ryan call passing plays leading to a sack pushing them out of range of a FG that would have pushed their lead to 10 at the 2 minute warning. They had the ball at the Patriots 35 yards line. All they had to do was run, run, run, FG and they would have won the game.
