Quote from: LennG on April 22, 2024, 03:06:14 PMI can still see all those papers swirling around and the glorious feeling we all had.
Believe me you had to live thru those 20 years of just bad football and then achieve this victory. The only thing better at that time was beating the Broncos and winning the SB.

Remember that like yesterday.  The paper swirling, people hugging.....that and 49-3 over the 9ers are my two favorite Giant Stadium memories.  The demolition of the Vikings is up there, too.

I dunno.....I hope we're not whistling past the graveyard with this guy.  His poor first year went under the radar because all our attention was focused on how bad our RT was.  Just as we assumed (hoped) Neal would make a year 2 jump, we're in the same position with Schmitz.  I'm very worried he's not what we hoped for and even more worried that due to his high draft pedigree, we'll stick with him longer than we should.

When I first saw this, i said, where the hell were the Giants? But then I see he's got four years and 75 mil left on his contract......and he's already 30. Just as glad he's going elsewhere.

What scares me about that scouting report on Maye: leaves too many throws on the field, won't pull the trigger. Sounds a lot like DJ.  BUT.....if the Giants have the same read and he's there at 6, it will take some beeeeeg balls to pass on him.

Feels like we're just throwing a lot of mediocracy at the situation.

Quote from: uconnjack8 on March 16, 2024, 08:29:10 AMBaby Papa and Charlie Weis had a conversation about the Giants this week on NFL Radio.

They were discussing offseason rumors in general.  Weis was trying to make a point about people and their predictions and how they could know what they claim to know.

Weis asked Papa if head heard any info about the Giants draft intentions (or general other offseason moves) noting that Papa is about as close to the Giants as any beat reporter or other media people.

And Papa said absolutely not, the organization is as tight lipped as any regime he can remember.

Off topic here but Charlie Weiss is absolutely the worst listen on Sirius NFL Radio.  Talks a lot, says nothing.

Godammit, when do we sign someone we can actually be excited about? So sick of these baragain bin players for full price.  Great Day One: We lose Barkley and McKinny and pick up a "serviceable" Guard.  F&%$#!

Quote from: MightyGiants on March 02, 2024, 10:05:43 AMConsider that Schoen's plan was for this team to have an elite O-line with

All-Pro Andrew Thomas at LT
High-rounder Josh Ezeudu at LG providing solid play
Second-rounder JMS, being the elite anchor in the middle of the line
Glowinski providing a solid but unspectacular play at RG
High pick Evan Neal was supposed to play at Pro Bowl level

The pair of elite OTs would have been negating all edge rushers without double-team

DJ was supposed to have tons of time, which would have made the receivers look far more talented.  Receivers always look better at 5 Mississippi than 3 Mississippi

Barkley was supposed to have an All-Pro season behind the powerful elite O-line

The offensive power would have helped the defense by requiring them to play far less.

Instead, the Giants ended up with one of the worst O-lines (if not the worst lines) last season due to poor play and mismanaged injuries (how does AT miss two months for a hamstring injury that didn't even take him out of the game?!?!)

Had the O-line played like the draft capital invested (two high ones, a 2nd rounder and a high 3rd rounder) would have expected it to play, we would be having a very different conversation this off-season.

Fully agree!  And Peart and Lemieux were supposed to be at least competent depth, as well. When you look at our recent history (going back to Flowers) of drafting OLs, I feel like Thomas was sheer luck!

It's hard to have any faith that we can draft a decent OL.  Other than Thomas, we seem to suck at picking talent.  Peart, Lemieux, Ezeudu and Neal (7th overall, no less!) come to mind.  And now I'm worried about Schmitz!  To say he "struggled" is an understatement.  Somehow, he hasn't been put under the same microscope as Neal but he's just as big a concern.

That said....fck it, draft Alt at 6, try Neal inside, hope Schmitz improves and for the love of God, sign a few competent Free Agent OLs, guys with tape, guys who you KNOW can play.  Then hope this new OL coach knows wtf he's doing.

If we pick McCarthy at 6, I will be needing a new TV.  I can't even imagine that's a consideration.

Many of those above but the first RB I really remember is Phil King.

There are certain times I know who the author is just by reading the headline. This was one of those times.

Quote from: MightyGiants on February 07, 2024, 01:56:12 PMLarry, a few thoughts:

1)  I am already seeing popular mocks with JJ going anywhere from 12 - 18.  So it's not unrealistic to think he couldn't end up top 10

2) Not addressing an issue is but an option, and like all the other options, it comes with risk.   Daboll may not see a season 4 if Jones pulls an Aaron Rodgers and suffers another neck injury on his third play, and the season is kneecapped before it can start.

OK, if I untangle that triple negative correctly, you're saying he realistically could wind up in the top 10.  Right?   ;)

Quote from: MightyGiants on February 06, 2024, 08:20:22 AMI listened to a few podcasts this morning.  Pat Traina interviewed a beat reporter for the Titans, and Nick and Dan went over the Xs and Os.   Some thoughts/points

1)  He's young, 37, with room to grow and improve

2)  He ran a bend but don't break defense that struggled between the 20s but did well in the red zone

3)  With the Titans he gave his DBs too much freedom

4)  He had Jim Schwartz as a consultant when he was in Tenessee. That's a pretty good DC to learn from

5)  With Schartz and Vabrel overseeing him, we don't know what he will do now that he is free to run his own defense as the true top man

6) He is likely to bring his own outside LB coach, Ryan Crow, to the team.  Crow did a pretty good job developing edge talent

7) He was described by the beat reporter as a good but not a great coach

8) From all I heard he reminds me of Patrick Graham

I involuntarily cringed and groaned when I hit this one.  "Bend but don't break" is right up there with "prevent" in my list of things I hate.  DBs giving 10 yard cushions on 3rd and 7 and we spend all year hoping to "hold them to three".  Great.
