Big Blue Huddle / PFF QB Rankings 50% or more snaps
December 06, 2022, 02:00:13 PM
Highlighted, Pass, Run, Fumble and Total Offense. The biggest surprises for me are Dalton and Brissett and Mac Jones.

Thoughts and observations?

I don't even want to post a laundry list because it would be too long. The one killer was the series where they threw two back to back deep passes late in the 4th. Playing to overtime and playing for a tie.

Giants.com Article
Michael Eisen
Giants.com Senior Writer/Editor

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Giants returned to work today after their three-day, post-Thanksgiving break and for the first time since 2016, they will enter December with a winning record and a legitimate chance to make the playoffs.

Losses to Detroit and Dallas in their last two games left them with a 7-4 record. If the season ended today, the Giants would be seeded sixth in the NFC.

But there's a long way to go. The Giants have six games remaining, including five against teams currently owning winning records and three against the top teams in the conference – two vs. 10-1 Philadelphia and one against 9-2 Minnesota. The four-game gauntlet through the NFC East continues Sunday at home against the Washington Commanders, winners of three in a row and six of their last seven games and who sit a half-game behind the Giants at 7-5.

"It's definitely exciting," rookie outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux said in a virtual news conference today. "Dabs (head coach Brian Daboll) talked to us today, and he kind of gave us that idea that the beginning of the season starts now. So, everything we've done has put us in position to go for it all. So, we can't get too far ahead of ourselves. But it is a big task at hand that we have."

Thibodeaux played on three teams at the University of Oregon that were a combined 26-9 and played in three bowl games, so he is aware that having tangible goals late in the season helps players fight through mental fatigue and physical discomfort.
"Definitely," he said. "Not even just the playoffs and that, but just the idea of having those mentors like (former Giants) Michael Strahan and Carl Banks in the building – even Jessie Armstead – just to give you those insights to, 'This is where the biggest guys step up.' So, it kind of gives you that extra thing to play for – extra motivation."

Offensive lineman Nick Gates, who played every snap at center vs. the Cowboys on Thursday, said the Giants can't look too far ahead.
"We've just got to be playing consistent football and everybody has to be on the same page," Gates said. "First off, we've got to start by going 1-0 against Washington and winning this game this week. That's where our focus is for the week, and we've just got to play good football. Definitely nice to play meaningful football in December. It's the first time that's happened in my career, so it's definitely nice, it makes it mean something to you."

Thibodeaux insists no magical formula or radical change is needed for the Giants to return to the success they enjoyed in their 7-2 start.
"(We have to) just continue harping on the game plan, get everybody healthy and play for 60 minutes," he said. "I feel like that's the only place we kind of took hits. That last game we weren't able to really finish it, play for all 60 minutes and hold up on the back end. So now that we have a new fresh week, we just got to make sure we stick to our fundamentals and play for 60 minutes.

"I don't think our swagger is gone. I don't think anything about who we are, and our character is gone. I just feel like it's going to take more confidence for a lot of guys who have to step up and take on these bigger roles."

The Giants will host the Commanders and Eagles the next two weeks, their final division home games. They will then hit the road for games in Washington and Minnesota. While the Giants are playing the Eagles in Week 14, Washington will have its bye, so the Commanders will face the Giants in consecutive games.

The Giants' final two games are at home vs. Indianapolis and at Philadelphia. Those games will be played in January, but Thibodeaux knows the significance of the next few weeks.

"December football is the most important football," he said. "So, now that we're here, we definitely have to crank up the intensity, crank up the sense of urgency. But again, it's not getting too ahead of ourselves. I think it's just everybody doing their job to a high level and playing for the guy next to him. I feel like we'll come out with the outcome that we want."

Big Blue Huddle / Is Daniel Jones The Giants QB in 2023
November 28, 2022, 11:44:30 AM
This is a pretty balanced Podcast exploring some key points and clues that Joe Schoen has put out. For example, Schoen told Barkley they wanted him back and they went through contract negotiations on that bye week. They didn't with Jones and he said they have the rest of the games to evaluate him. He clearly has reservations.

Worth a watch or to scan the transcript.

Big Blue Huddle / 2 Teams 2 points for the win
November 27, 2022, 07:16:01 PM
Earlier Trevor Lawrence led the Jaguars to what would be a game tying TD but the HC went for the win and they converted. Then with little time left the Ravens came to the get enough yardage to have a try for a record setting 67 yard FG Tucker. It fell a yard short.

Just now Justin Herbert did the same and they went for the two point conversion to win the game.

Exciting games.

Big Blue Huddle / @TalkinGiants Offensive Line Report
November 22, 2022, 02:40:51 PM
Good breakdown by Bobby Skinner on Lemieux, Gates and Thomas. Justified what my glances saw with Gates on how well he played his first reps at Center. What a feel good success story this has been for this young man who was so resilient and fought through the adversity of a catastrophic injury. His buddy the owner at the House of Mozzarella must be absolutely delighted.

Unfortunately when Bredeson comes back off of IR, Lemieux looks destined for the Practice Squad. Just too many mental errors and rusty technique.

Bobby also touched on how poor Oline play effected the Run game too. Unless that player is Andrew Thomas and showed how SB should just shoot behind him. Also highlighted the AT hand circling technique and how that's working for him.

"Can Jones throw the Giants to success? The Seahawks limited Barkley to 53 yards and Jones was sacked five times as he threw 31 times in a 27-13 loss. There will come a time when Jones is asked to do more than he did to beat the Texans — throwing it 17 times in the NFL today is not the norm. The formula, thus far, is working."....

Can Breda and Brightwell maintain production or will Dabs and Kafka have to ride on Daniel Jones. How would that work out?

New York Giants, New York Jets
The Jets would be a fine landing spot for Daniel Jones.

The Jets are more talented than the Giants and better equipped to win in the short term with a mobile quasi-prospect who operates well within structure. The Giants should not be fooled by their 2022 success and need to stay the foundation-to-rafters rebuilding course.

The Jets could land Jones for something like Marcus Mariota's two-year, $18 million deal. Jones might make sense for the Giants at that price point, but it's hard to imagine either side being thrilled to make such a deal.

The Jets could then trade Zach Wilson to a team looking for a salvage operation while the Giants: a) figure out a way to jockey for 2023 draft position or b) punt at quarterback while building some real strengths elsewhere.

The Jets would also be a worthy landing spot for Jimmy Garoppolo in 2023—rumor has it that the Jets coaching staff is familiar with him! An effective game manager with a low salary wouldn't be a bad selection. Anything would be better than sticking with their current Blake Bortles-in-training.

The Giants' unexpected success and Wilson's flameout-in-progress will create a fascinating self-scouting dilemma for both New York teams in the weeks and months to come. Both franchises need to take different types of risks: the Giants must be prepared to take a step back at quarterback (and probably surrender some draft capital) in order to not trap themselves in 8-9 purgatory, while the Jets must take a chance that they can build a 49ers-Dolphins-Eagles style contender around their recent draft classes if they upgrade from "win despite" to "win with" at quarterback.

Teams can study tendencies off of Offensive Alignments and it becomes difficult to gain separation which the window can close quickly. That's the life living in a short passing game so the QB can get the pass off quickly.

Now that the pass blocking has improved, can some option routes be introduced on intermediate and longer routes? Because now, they have pigeon holed themselves into mesh and what Daniel Jones likes. Easy for the Defender to see what's coming.

He looked pretty good on his return and with some more work he looks like the better option at this time than Ezeudu. The other question becomes, if they do start hime is it at Center and move Feliciano over to LG or just insert Gates at LG?

Big Blue Huddle / Reality Sets in

Tough road trip and that wears down a team but the James Fumbles were a killer and Barkley, Jones and the Oline come back down to earth.

A week of rest and then the toughest games of the season.

Sometimes the bear eats you.

Big Blue Huddle / Nice Article on Fabian Moreau

"But when he first came in and we started talking to each other about picks and stuff, he told me his stats, so I kind of knew from the jump that he could really play," McKinney said. "You are always grateful when you can get a guy who has been in the league and has played a lot of games and made plays.

"It has been fun to play with him because ... I'm comfortable with him. I know he knows what he has to do and he gives me tips that we bounce off each other during the game about what we might see. We work well together and he really provides a huge help to our group. He's helping all the younger guys grow."

The Front Porch / Had a Dream Last Night
October 27, 2022, 10:15:43 AM
The Giants and Jets were a combined football team and the ball was less than ten yards to the goal line. It seemed like it was on the six and they needed to get it to the five for a first down. Apparently the Giants players last play didn't make it and I assume it 4th down. It was the Jets players now and the carry was close and we were all rooting for them. The result was not determined before I woke up.

Symbolically it seems the Giants fall short of an opportunity and the Jets somehow are either still in it or determine the fate of the Giants.

Well, that's how I read into it. Thoughts?

I know that everyone dreams but some people think they don't and just can't remember. I've had some significant dreams that applied to my life or what was going on at the time.

I had a dream before the 2004 draft of a Giants QB throwing passes. We drafted Eli that year.

I had a dream of falling out of an airplane and being scared of dying when a beast came out of the ground and scared me from falling any further. I then floated and soared like an Eagle thinking, I can fly. I never put it together at the time but it was right before my second parachute jump.

I had a dream of driving my father and stopping at a toll and the attendant was a woman with red hair. I explained that I needed to get him across the bridge. Shortly thereafter he died of cancer. I was the last person with him at the hospital and when he was dying and suffering, told him it was ok now to give up. He didn't need to fight anymore.

Anyone have interesting or significant dreams or nightmares?
