Big Blue Huddle / Which Loss Was Most Telling
November 09, 2023, 08:11:20 AM
Was it Dallas that showed how woefully unprepared this team was entering the season?

Was it the Bills, Raiders or Jets?

I believe it was against the Jets in a game they should have won if not just for the decision to play conservative and one dimensional, but to show how unprepared they were for a backup QB after having weeks to bring in a veteran, not knowing or understanding the condition of the kicker and calling the worst set of plays in overtime after taking the ball and not trusting their Defense.

All that aside, what were the common themes in each of the losses?

Big Blue Huddle / The Role of an Offensive Coordinator
November 08, 2023, 03:30:12 PM
He's more than just a play caller.

From Chat AI

The role of an offensive coordinator in the NFL is to develop and implement offensive strategies for a team. They work closely with the head coach and other assistant coaches to create game plans, design plays, and coordinate the offense during games. Offensive coordinators are responsible for calling plays, adjusting the game plan based on the opponent's defense, and making in-game decisions to maximize the team's offensive production. They play a crucial role in developing the team's offensive scheme and working with players to execute the game plan effectively.

Here is a more detailed breakdown:

Big Blue Huddle / Tell me again why we do this?

The Giants' record for the last ten years is:

63-107-1  .368 winning %

Points For- 3364
Points Against- 4121

Besides Games at the stadium and on TV, watching podcasts, analyzing footage, and reporting on training camp, some of us have spent a half year to almost a full year of our lives Online here discussing Giants Football. Rich has spent 3.4 years of his life dedicated to this team and this organization.

To put this in perspective, let's look back at the Wilderness Days of 1964 - 1974.

55-95-4  .357 winning %

The true outliers have been the Parcells and Coughlin generations. Pockets of about 7-8 years of good competitive and championship Football.

I don't know about any of you but Owa Tagu Syam...

The thing is, we have become so used to this that we have become numb and complacent and accepting of this crappy product almost year in and year out, with a little taste of success only to fall back into the abyss. I loved going to the games but I have to say that I'm so happy that I walked away from my seat license to save a lot of money and a lot of time.

"He's made some big plays when he's had an opportunity to, in terms of downfield. We threw him a few more this game, came down with some, didn't with others," Daboll said. "Again, I can't say it enough, he's got a long way to go. Hard position to jump right into. He's making strides, but still got a lot to learn and details to clean up."

Big Blue Huddle / Scouting Jets @ Giants
October 24, 2023, 10:51:57 AM
Wink will bring the house another week.

The Jets disguise coverages and are tied with the Giants in passing TDs allowed.

Both teams can Rush against each other for over 100 yards.

Giants have a slight edge at QB.

Both teams have a three game trend of giving up 19 points a game.

The Jets coming off a huge win over Philly. Coming off a Bye week can have positive and negative consequences.

The Giants held the Bills and last two opponents to just 14 points.

Big Blue Huddle / A few notes after watching the All-22
October 17, 2023, 04:27:41 PM
The Run Blocking for most of the game was atrocious. However, Barkley also made a few bad decisions and it may be attributed to him favoring that ankle. He did a lot more straight runs with no cuts although he was decisive. That said, just because they stuck with the Run, it paid off later in the game with more yards gained in the 4th quarter.

I didn't concentrate on him the entire game, but Marcus McKethan looked much better in Pass protection even though his PFF grade was in the 50's.

I'm loving Jaylin Hyatt man. He even is a willing blocker downfield on Run Plays and he does it well. I don't know if it was the arm limitation of Tyrod or that he isn't synced with his speed but that one deep throw in double coverage would have been a TD if he led him. I also was impressed with his sense of urgency late in the 4th when he completed a pass for a 1st down and quickly located the official to place the ball for a spike.

If you haven't rewatched the game, there was some pretty good things that Tyrod did or was able to do differently. First of all and I'd like Rich @MightyGiants to look this up, there were a lot of snaps Under Center which set up Play Action. It seems to me that DJ has been taking more Shotgun. There were a lot of plays where there was a fake handoff to one side and TT rolled or moved to the other side. He has a very quick release from the time of decision. He holds the ball low but it's a quick motion and the ball gets to the Receiver quickly. Especially those throws to the Flat where Campbell has been getting slammed after the catch, the DB's were frozen and couldn't jump the route or make a quick tackle on WDR. Tyrod also moved and rolled to the left side several times to read his progressions and he throws very well and accurately on the run. That one pass late in the game to Slayton was a great example of him avoiding the rush and completing the pass downfield. He threw several deep balls and Rich can pick that stat up. Some were defended, some missed their mark and some were penalties. His YPA like Allen's was in the 5's but there was a higher % of passes thrown over 10 yards.

On Josh Allen, he made an incredible pass for a TD in the 4th quarter escaping a sack twice, moving to his right, and throwing the pass across his body into the end zone. All of the first half and most of the game the Giants coverage was tight and the pressure was on him. I would say this was the best defensive performance by the Giants in years looking away at the Run Defense by the DT/DE's.. Like I said in another thread, Bobby O and McFad complimented each other well too.

Big Blue Huddle / @BobbySkinner Oline Report Week 6
October 17, 2023, 02:29:03 PM
It's just 17 minutes long and focuses' on Pugh and Neal. I think Bobby Johnson should do what Al Weill did with Rocky Marciano or was that Mick with Rocky Balboa... Tie his ankles together with rope so he doesn't open his feet up too wide. Notice how Pugh moves with short quick steps and see Evan Neal. Well, that's my observation, not Bobby's. ;)

Big Blue Huddle / Some Positive Notes
October 16, 2023, 11:12:04 AM
The Tandem of ILBs Okereke and McFadden are looking good the last few games. Last night they were both responsible for the two turnovers by the Bills. If they can continue to improve and play well, this is huge because those positions have been a liability for a very long time.

The Giants dominated time of possession by running the ball to keep it out of Josh Allen's hands. It also set up play action.

The Giants held the high powered Bills Offense to just 14 points.

The Giants were better on third and fourth down conversions than the Bills.

Tyrod Taylor had more passing yards than Allen and no interceptions. His crucial mistake at the end of the half most likely could have resulted in a FG but it's the first game they played well defensively that was winnable. The Giants could have won 15-14 or 16-14 if not for the non call PI.

Big Blue Huddle / For Those Caving For Calib
October 15, 2023, 08:07:02 AM
The Notre Dame Defense gave him fits last night with six sacks and three interceptions. Albeit a valiant effort, it was too much for him to overcome. Sam Hartman has now settled into his new Offensive System and played within himself, while a well Coached Fighting Irish dominated and outplayed The Trojans. 48-20
