Quote from: MightyGiants on January 19, 2024, 10:45:18 AMI wonder if teams initially benefit from fan dissatisfaction.   With a limited market for the seat licenses they go back to the team who at some point will sell them again for yet more money.
The upper deck is a grand a seat. I would think they want to keep the customer. Don't be so sure they turn them over so fast. If someone wants to go to a Giants game they can buy at ticket price and less on Ticket Exchange and Stub Hub. I get email every week of the season from the Giants for ticket sales through their box office.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 19, 2024, 10:03:28 AMI would think it would take more than a few losing seasons to put Dallas in a position to not sell out.  Still, there are other significant revenue streams that teams don't have to share, like concession sales, merchandising, and even parking.  Full stadiums of fans there to watch a winning team maximize JJ's income.

Plus, suites are more desirable to corporate customers if they know they are going to be taking clients to meaningful games and to watch a winning team.
I was comparing them to the Giants situation, where many dumped their Seat License because fans stopped going to games in November and the resale value was in the pits. Last season they had to have had a resurgence but who trusts this organization at this point when it comes to shelling out cash? If it wasn't for you, Brian and Frank, I would have dumped the license years ago. If the Giants won 12 games a year, at least the joy of winning would have kept me in the game. Instead of walking back to the car in the wallows of defeat.

Quote from: LennG on January 18, 2024, 08:22:24 PMI was discussing something like this with a friend today and we both agreed, why can't they invent a battery that charges as you drive, thus almost eliminating the need for a physical charge most of the time? If the electric battery is charging as you drive it would make gas engines almost obsolete.
It's called planned product adolescence.

If you think about it, it might be more profitable to have contiguous 12 win seasons and not go all the way, than a bunch of 6 win seasons and winning it all every ten years. The in season ticket sales alone would be much better for the entire season and you retain your seat license holders.

Quote from: jgrangers2 on January 18, 2024, 05:53:33 PMSimply put, last year screwed everything up but people wanted to buy into the record. I didn't mind the Jones contract and hindsight is 20/20 but the prudent move probably would have been to move on and sign someone like Baker Mayfield as a stopgap for a year. But how do you justify moving on from your QB after winning 9 games and then a playoff game? And then it got compounded by trading a top 100 pick for a 30 year old tight end who can't stay healthy.
We had members here who predicted Waller would be the leading receiver with well over 1000 yards and mega TD's. He was DJ's savior.

I like Schoen. I want to keep him here for a long time. Sometimes when you're meeting with the boss or having lunch or just a passing conversation, a high level executive or an owner can make a subtle comment. Then you may wind up acting over it because you believe it's direction.

I know what was pushed to the public and I don't completely buy it. There was a sense of urgency in getting this team on the right track. There was a short term goal to support Daniel Jones and develop him. I believe the owners like the man. He embodies everything they like in the face of the franchise and leader of the team.

I'm sure that Schoen would have liked to invest more money in the trenches. Instead he bolstered the Receiving weapons to give Jones better targets. So he had to gamble on Neal improving and quite frankly, I thought he would rebound this year too. He drafts a highly regarded Center. I have to place the blame on Daboll because he should have known that his buddy wasn't cutting it as an Oline Coach. There was no solid backup plan for the OT's. That's on Daboll.

Now he must see something special in Daboll to support him. I hope he's right. I don't want to lose Schoen.

Quote from: Bigmoose on January 16, 2024, 11:29:01 PMRegarding Barkley, don't overlook his supportive comments about Wink concerning his leaving the Giants  https://www.usatoday.com/videos/sports/sports-seriously/2024/01/10/saquon-barkley-addresses-wink-martindale-leaving-the-giants/72176002007/. If I were the GM, I would not appreciate his making this public.
Saquon sparked a thought. Wink may see himself as someone who should be a HC or as a HC. I think he also may have been given the impression that he's in charge of the Defense and Dabs, the Offense as I said in another thread.

Good way Surprised- McFadden, Phillips, Robinson, Belton, Pinnock, Okereke, Devito.

Bad Way surprised- Hyatt, Jones, Shep, Ojulari, Bredeson, Glowinski

No great surprises but I had different expectations.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 18, 2024, 10:50:43 AMThis isn't the first time I heard you mention quantum computing.  You inspired me to look into it.  I think this article appealed to me and my engineering (the field that converts scientific knowledge into practical applications) background.

Actually, I think you would have also made an excellent Physician but be that as it may, take a look at this book. I foresee medical breakthroughs, food production, new energy resources, and space exploration when it figures out how to reverse gravity and bend Space/Time. Then there will be boundless abundance and it will end all wars over territory. It's the hardware for AI.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 18, 2024, 08:58:33 AMWink didn't get any money from NYG when he left; he just got his freedom to go anywhere else.   Plus, people in the NFL talk.  Non-disclosures are unheard of in the NFL, and it would have made the Giants look as guilty as sin if they had former employees sign them.

We have heard from both sides of this story.  What I find rather striking is that the two sides don't seem to be disputing the facts.  They are simply putting out the facts their side feels are damming to the other side.  So, I think this is a situation where we have a pretty good idea of what went on behind the scenes (pretty much everything we heard from both sides).

Having consumed all the information I could, I wouldn't say I am convinced Daboll will fail moving forward, but I have serious doubts about Daboll's ability to turn things around and be the sort of head coach who establishes a winning culture and enjoys sustained success.

It's not just the issues with the coaching.  As you pointed out, Daboll has been extremely player-friendly.   This past season's training camp had a country club atmosphere, which seemed to leave the team ill-prepared for the start of the season.   I am not sure it's a good look that players struggle to be heard when they talk to reporters in the locker room over the hooting and the hollering over the ping pong games.

I think what the problem with the Giants' ownership is they put too much stock in how the team plays in the last quarter of the season rather than considering how they played over the entire season.  That's why we have the pattern of being out of the playoffs by Halloween, but the team wins enough games to drop their draft position, making talent acquisition more difficult.
Yup, I have more of a problem with how this team was prepared for the season and some decisions that were made in preparing the Roster and deciding on the roster as well as starting Cutlets over Taylor, which may have killed what playoff hopes they had. The Oline decisions were the real killer.

Quote from: MightyGiants on January 18, 2024, 08:35:33 AMI listened to the Giants Insider Podcast this morning.  I consider him (and Paul Schwartz) as the two mouth pieces for NYG among the beat reporters.  Here are the Giants unofficial message points:

1)  It was just Daboll being Daboll; there was nothing to see here, folks.  Schoen and the owners are 100% behind Daboll

2) It's okay that Daboll abuses his coaching staff for two reasons.  First, Parcells did the same thing back in the 80s, and the players still like Daboll (and played hard for him down the stretch), so it's all good.

3) The Giants really want to stop talking about this.

4) They do not deny any of the facts reported by Pat Leonard, but they are still blaming Wink for everything, and Wink needs to keep his mouth shut.

5) Everyone has had their boss scream at them; it's normal

6) The Giants were able to sign an RB and O-line coach, so clearly, Daboll's mistreatment of his coaching staff isn't a problem.
Do you think the had Wink sign a DND for his 3 mil?

Besides Bill-Chiefs 2, I'm interested in this Houston team with Stroud.
